Wave War One

Wave War One

Let me say first of all that this game does have promise although it has needs for improvement, first the AI pathing is broken, particularly on the snowy map and it needs more music, not the same one track on a continual loop! The speed of the running animations could be sped up just a bit as it takes units too long to get to there position and start firing. Also the balancing needs to be fixed as when you start a game, you can only get about 2-3 and your enemy can have up too 5-6 doesn’t seem a lot but it does make a difference.

In brief - A brilliant WW1 diorama-styled tower defence game with weapon ballistics instead of DPS calculators, unpredictable AI pathing, destructible environments and the ability for the player to control turrets or vehicles.

If you only played the WW1 content in “Toy Soldiers Complete” you should know that ported content was a buggy mess and was NOT faithful to the original Toy Soldiers. If you’re on the fence about paying full price for this remake, the original game is cheaper and still well worth playing!

Flying Corps

Flying Corps

It is a flight simulation game which is based on the theme of the World War 1 and is one of those which has really depicted a realistic flight war gameplay. You have 6 different planes in the game which are the ones that were famous in those times.

The planes have been modelled perfectly and have been given a lot of details.

You have both instant playing mode and the campaign mode for doing a wide variety of missions.

Coming to the planes again, the inner dynamics have been made with a good number of details which allow you to check the speed, the height of the aircraft, the targets, situational awareness and many other on board options which you can easily use and implement in the gameplay.

I’ve only played in VR with a HOTAS. Beyond the fact that it’s wildly overpriced, this game needs a serious overhaul by someone who understands UX.

The menus are amateurish and bewildering, particularly in the campaign mode. There’s no way to recenter your view. It seems to be impossible to start a campaign game in VR, because you have to type in a name for your squadron, and it won’t accept keyboard input as typing. When I hit the F key I get some performance numbers. I had to restart in desktop mode, create the campaign, and then restart again in VR mode to play it.

this game does not fell finished to me. at this time in VR you have hand tracking but can not interact with anything just ghost hands. that sucks would have loved to fly the planes with my VR hands. but im so far happy with what i got. the joysticks on the VR controls work. game brings me back to playing red baron long long ago. for that feeling i like the game. and for that i will give it a thumbs up. if you go into this expecting a full VR exp you will be a little upset. but the controls work the game plays and is fun. maybe wait for a sale if you are unsure.

Armored Battle Crew [World War 1] - Tank Warfare and Crew Management Simulator

Armored Battle Crew [World War 1] - Tank Warfare and Crew Management Simulator

Nice little game once you get used to it. Was not sure about using WSAD keys for steering at first but once you are used to it replicates steering of WWI tanks perfectly. Mark V good choice for first tank as it was able to be steered by driver alone. Each different tank type has different performance and choice of guns. Tadpole good at crossing trenches but pig to steer and whippet fast but not as well protected. Like being able to upgrade guns, armour and engine etc as you play game and way tank performance varies depending on set up used. Would be nice to have German,French and Italian tanks as well. Armoured cars would be nice as well as used before tanks invented and armies got bogged down in trenches in Europe. Armoured cars used in middle east and in 1919 in Russia along with tanks by British helping White Russians fight reds. Would be nice to have tanks that were developed to late in WW1 to be produced in large numbers or get into action. Some pre WW2 tanks would be nice. (Thinking of Vickers independant). Seen complaint about not being able to communicate with other tanks and charge around like modern tanks. Not fair to compare early tanks with modern ones. Were slow and hard to even speak to crew in own tank and were prone to break downs etc. Really gives feel of being in WW1 tank and fun to play. Just keeps getting better with Rolls Royce armoured car being added and Troop carrying tank due in future plus tweaks to graphics and gameplay

Disclaimer - Early Access etc etc

I wasn’t instantly sold on this when I first saw it. It was ‘marketed’ to me by a third party youtuber on the grounds it was ‘Just Like Bomber Crew… but with TANKS’ and then proceeded to play the game very badly and give a complete false impression on what the game play actually was.

The difference - In My Opinion - between BC and ABC is that BC plays like a bit of a juggling act where you spend more time concentrating on keeping every crew member actually doing what you want and then missing the target because you were forcing the tail gunner to reload rather than looking down the bomb sight.

Trenches - World War 1 Horror Survival Game

Trenches - World War 1 Horror Survival Game

My sister loves horror and I love WW1, so I thought we’d try it out. We played for about an hour and a half and completed it with 3 or 4 attempts. The total game could probably be accomplished in around half in hour if you really knew what you were doing.

Pros:

  • Awesome sound design. I love the ambiance as well as the spooky sounds that play whenever the monster (my sister calls him “the meat bag”) spots you. Something about it triggers the fight or flight response, makes the hair on the back of you neck stand up. Personally I could very clearly pinpoint the position of meat bag with the audio, some reviews say otherwise. I was surprised how good audio is as created by a single dev, especially on the Unity engine ;-)

Not incredibly far in (only just found the map but done crap tons of exploring) but I keep having to pause it since the atmosphere is terrifying. So far i have no problems, I am yet to be chased by anything but the hanging man scared me senseless. Devs please don’t patch this cuz it’s hilarious but if you look at your shadow and crouch you turn into a skeleton and I have found it very amusing. Keep up the good work, hoping for (dreading) plenty more scares :)

UPDATE: Too scary. got the wire cutters and quit after a jumpscare I didn’t see cuz I flinched back. Gonna get my brother to play it then give it another go. 20/10 play it if you have spare underwear and a chair that won’t stain.

Fadeout: Underground

A Diamond in the Rough

If you long for the days of old classic shooting and movement, Fadeout delivers with great potential for more. The game emphasizes movement and combat with technical skill you hardly find in modern shooters. Movement consists of basic roll-jumping and rocket jumping to more complex wall bounces and surfing with each character having their own mechanics. Weapons and health are collected on the ground emphasizing good map knowledge and rotation skills. It’s a hero shooter with the heart of Quake.

Real player with 208.1 hrs in game

The game’s in Early Access, it’s in testing and I’ve even helped playtest it so expect this review to change. Hell, comment on it if I forget to update it when the game’s released. The game is receiving updates regularly, with major improvements to gameplay, updates to maps and graphics.

Fadeout is incredibly fun with full teams. Movement is fun and satisfying; you can dodge-roll, and jumping out of this roll has you keep momentum mid-air allowing all characters to move fairly fast. The weapons feel good to use. I wasn’t sure at first if I’d like the mechanic of picking up weapons off the ground, but part of why it works is each character has enough uniqueness that they remain distinct in spite of the weapons they grab. In fact, a lot of them have weapons so tailored to their style that you will typically want to keep that weapon and pick up extra ones depending on your strategy.
