Horror Maze

This game definitely has its flaws but I think it is good. The jump-scares for some monsters can be better such as the arctic maze demon. When you are caught by the demon, it isn’t that scary. Also the jump-scare noises are the same for a lot of the monsters and doesn’t sound too good. Overall though I did enjoy it and did get scared a few times.

Take Me Home

Take Me Home

The concept of this game is cool: It provides no instructions, and just some hints, about where you’re supposed to go and what you’re supposed to do next. The graphics style is unique, in a pleasing way to me, and who doesn’t want to play as a wolf? However, the gameplay is less than desirable to me. I haven’t played it for very long so it’s possible it could grow on me. What bothers me the most is there’s no way you can distinguish areas where you can’t go, and areas where you can. A tall dune that looks like it’s a blockade, actually lets you run right over it- whereas you’ll be out in open space and run into an invisible wall that you can’t walk past. And as you’re running through trees, rather than going transparent after the wolf runs through them to allow you to see where he’s going, they completely block your screen so you can’t see what’s ahead. I stopped playing after I came upon a large crate that was movable- and I’m guessing is part of solving the first puzzle- because pushing it in whatever direction you want to go is incredibly frustrating with the way the mechanics of the game cause it to move. Maybe you don’t actually need the crate so it doesn’t matter if it’s difficult to move, but at that point I kind of just lost interest. If these issues were fixed- mostly just the first one about world boundaries- I would totally be interested in playing this game.

Doors

Doors

Public Review on behalf of the Opium Pulses Steam group

Few words about the game

Doors is a nice logic game, with a simple idea of choosing between doors. Sounds easy, I know. Wait until like 10th level, then we’ll see. As said in game description, Doors obviously took an inspiration from Limbo and Stanley Parable, because it looks literally like mix of those two. Unfortunately, huge potential is left out. We all get the idea of hidden “understory” going on, but for example Portal explains bit here and there and lets us connect some things, make up some things that fit etc.. But here developer literally threw at players torn pieces of written ideas and it’s either not enough to create something nice from it or it’s just impressively shallow story. It’s hard to say that I recommend or not recommend it, as there are pros and cons everywhere. Only if there would be “Mixed” button, I would press it without hesitation, but as I quite enjoyed it, I’m going to press “Yes”.

Doors is a first person puzzle game. But the first person aspect is limited to you walking over to the next puzzle each time. You walk through bland, uninspired, low resolution black and white landscapes (look at the screenshots). This adds nothing to the game. Halfway through the game, there is a bunker to ‘explore’ but except for getting some Steam Achievements done there, it’s just a colored version of the walking simulator to get you to walk over to the next puzzle.

The puzzles are… weird. They’re not easy and they’re not hard, but they require you to adapt to the word choice of the creator. An example. The phrase “correct door” doesn’t mean the door that you need to walk through to solve the puzzle, but a door with a correct statement written on it. This will get you confused at almost every puzzle. Some people talk about it in the discussion forum but I think it’s intended, because once you ‘translate’ the puzzles on paper and replace it with the real-life words (i.e. “door that leads to bacon” really means “the correct door”, “correct door” really means “door with a true statement written above it” and “incorrect door” means “door with a false statement written above it”), you’ll solve every puzzle with ease. But what’s the point of playing a computer game if the actual puzzling is done on a piece of paper, right? I know. So one struggles through it while trying to ‘translate’ in your head. But when you get to puzzles with, say, six doors and more, it gets hard. Not hard to solve, but hard to resist the urge to take a piece of paper and a biro, and immediately solve the puzzle as if it were a child’s riddle.

lol, i was compelled to change scripts of game to pass through pipes scenes, they are just broken, looks like if you rotated it wrong a lot, you will never solve the puzzle. Awful game, found it in similar games to my own one. Do i have any chance to contact with developer? want to discuss some details of game.

I don’t think I even need to explain why this game is bad, the video speaks for itself.

I don’t understand why Valve allow these sorts of games to exist on this platform.

Refunding this. Really bad, lots of issues: The flashlight never went off, despite the battery running out. Monster appeared randomly, once or twice, walked through walls. Items were random and indistinct looking. No real scares to speak of. Never had to actually even care where the monsters were or what they were doing; just kept walking and they stopped existing. Game doesn’t deserve any more review than this.

Commander ‘85

Commander ‘85

I had very high hopes for Commander 85, unfortunately after many, many hours of trying to figure it out, I can’t recommend it in its current state. The game is buggy and either crashes or simply… stops working in the most random places. Objects get stuck in my character’s hand, I can’t select dialogue options…

Bugs aside, the game is incredibly confusing and chaotic. I spent hours trying to understand how it works, due to a lack of clear instructions to anyone who isn’t familiar with how computer programming/hacking works. It’s hours of trying to memorize the commands, figuring out which one to use, how to input it, how everything I do affects the game… by the time I understood HOW to play, I had died several times, without really understanding why.

This is a game that offers little to no hand holding. I’ve learned most of what I figured out by trial and error. If you’re stuck you can take a look at the top secret file that contains hints/tricks for beating the game. I feel a lot of the negative reviews are people who didn’t like the style of the game or didn’t understand how to play. You must be patient and keep at it. I recommend this game but only to those who like a game that leaves a lot to the user to figure out.

MIND: Path to Thalamus Enhanced Edition

MIND: Path to Thalamus Enhanced Edition

I’m torn with this one.

I love first person puzzle games and I love games that explore psychology. People’s minds, their inner torment, dreams, nightmares, thoughts and aspirations. So with that I imagine it’s pretty hard to put something so… deep, I guess? …Into a game, have it make sense and have the visuals live up to the vast imagination and expectation of others. All of which just kind of naturally come with the subject. I was pretty excited to try this because it really seemed from the trailer like they had all aspects, the visuals, the puzzles and the story, down to a tee.

The mind is a beautiful, sometimes terrifying, thing. Projecting nightmares, anxiety, flashbacks to embarrassing moments we endured in our lives. In our day to day lives, we’re often able to draw attention away from such negative thoughts and musings with the distraction and hum of daily life. But when you’re trapped in your own head, and there’s nothing between you and the darkest corners of your thoughts, it can be a hell in which there’s no escaping. Sometimes, there’s nothing but a malfunction, a delayed chemical or electrical reaction in the body, that prevents us from leaving such a place. There’s little we truly understand about such conditions. Can one even fight their way back to the surface? Or is it totally down to chance?

Hmmm, not sure about the idea behind this game… died twice in 10 minutes. Might be an ok game but there are game breakers….

Stamina is virtually non existent. You can sprint for about 5 seconds then it takes forever to get any stamina again.

I do not know why i died, just all of a sudden my health went down 20% at a time till i died.

Said to find a backpack in a house, no marker to determine what is ment by a house, checked 3 buildings but nothing in them.

Then to resurrect your player ot costs 1000 gold, if you don’t have it then it says it needs to restart the game in which it crashes.
