ZED

ZED

TL;DR: Buy this game. It’s worth every penny.

I have come to enjoy conversing with the Eagre team on Discord, and I can say these are fantastic people with a real passion for what they do. I sincerely hope they keep on creating. I’m going to list out what I felt the pros and cons of ZED are. Mind you, this is from my own experience. Everyone has things they like and dislike, and this is just my case. I played through the entire thing in VR on an Oculus Rift, and I was not a Kickstarter backer, so I bought ZED at full price on the day of release.

I was unaware of this game until it hit Steam. Prior to purchasing, I read many reviews, some positive and others negative. I decided to give this game a chance since I’m not much of a shoot ‘em up type of player and am always searching for something different, enjoyable and relaxing. After purchasing and the start of play, I encountered some issues that were quickly resolved by the creators which then enabled me to play through the game. Currently I am not a VR player, maybe one day. My review is strictly PC based.

Tales of The Neon Sea-Exciting domestic Chinese style cyberpunk game.

Leave a comment on my favorite game is my tribute to this game.

In the thought of many people, cyberpunk-style games should have several characteristics: a huge world view, a huge map, and a thought-provoking ending. And this game changed my opinion.

The ethereal worldview casts an invisible shadow on the cyberpunk style. Although there are many background books and texts in the game, they focus on introducing the background of the main task of the game itself, and avoid discussing the background of cyberpunk. In my opinion, this is really the finishing touch of this game. The game brings players who are on the main storyline into a real cyberpunk and Chinese-style atmosphere through a good drawing style, which not only allows players to see the punk style of the future city in the rich plot, but also allows the tragedy mainline process Of players get a touch of comfort and a sense of belonging.

In A Nutshell

🔵 Pros

  • Excellent, modern pixel-art graphical style, with great amount of detail and care in the realization of environments.

  • Overall good variety of puzzle types throughout the game, keeping it interesting and not redundant.

  • Original, interesting setting, ensuring information about world lore and characters do not sound as something “already seen”.

  • Many additional lore elements, secret collectibles to gather for the more attentive players.

  • Tons of smart references to pop, anime, movie and video-game culture elements and characters.

-The game has a some nice backgrounds and overall the art is good but the backgrounds get used over and over and over. The same can be said about the characters, you get the odd flip left and right but the amount of actual unique art is very limited.

-The sound/music is alright, nothing to right home about, but the blaring “Walkerman” headbanger outro after each act… fml.

-The game/narrative is a blatant rip off of The Witcher, I am actually surprised that the developer hasn’t had a legal injunction filed against him, maybe there is just enough changed for it not to be considered intellectual property theft… If you have never played the Witcher, do yourself a a favour and run and grab it and stay clear of this.

I am a big fan of a well written story a a choice centered story where the choices you make have a real effect and this game very much delivered on that for me. It’s a shame it hasn’t gotten more attention really.

+Pros

-The music is very enjoyable for the most part, the main theme was a bit jarring at first but it grew on me in a campy way.

  • The main character seems to have a lot of depth to him and has an actual personality in him, rather than many games like this where the main character is as much of a blank slate as possible.

Kona

Kona

An interactive story/adventure that has a touch of puzzles, free roam exploration, and mild survival mechanics. It excells with its story-telling, its atmosphere, and its straight forward mechanics. It’s not for everyone, as it’s a bit short, mildly challenging, and not overly scary or exciting.

This is an interactive story first and foremost. The survival and puzzle elements take a back seat, and are more supplementary to the atmosphere than actual gameplay. The difficulty of the game across the board is mild, something more accessible to non-gamers or low-octane adventurers.
