Vampire Slave 1: A Yaoi Visual Novel

Vampire Slave 1: A Yaoi Visual Novel

Vampire Slave 1 and 2 are a beautiful interpretation of the original yaoi novel Vampire Slave by Yamila Abraham. The writing is reverent, tongue and cheek, self aware! There is a clear emphasis placed on consensual love between two characters that want the best for each other. Thank you to Yamila Abraham for creating the brilliant piece of modern literature that inspired this game, and thank you Y press for making the next chapter sexually explicit.

It would be a neutral review if I could write one. I was contemplating to review the game after buying all the available chapters or when the story is finished completely but…the store page claims it’s a free game, right?! The next chapters are sold separately, have their own steam store pages, so I guess it’d be appropriate to put into words what I’ve experienced for now.

I’m a huge yaoi fan and adore vampire stories, submissive relationships are quite alluring to me, so when I saw this title Vampire Slave. A yaoi visual novel I knew I was gonna try it for sure. I’m grateful to the developer for creating such games, it’s not their first similar story, I even once was their backer at Kickstarter, participated in their discord until I was…disappointed:( I think it’s not right to mention any personal reasons, it’s a review about the game, not about the developer. I just decided for myself not to support them at Kickstarter anymore but games… I want to believe their work should be judged separately. Tho sometimes it’s hard to be unbiased. When I downloaded this free first chapter I didn’t pay attention by whom it was created. And as yaoi visual novels are still a rare case, I just can’t miss it.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York

After playing through Heart of the Forest, another WoD story game, I was pretty hyped for VtM Coteries of New York. First playthrough - great impression. I picked a Ventrue lady and went ahead. Dialogues are very well written, characters you encounter are believable and colorful, graphics are really nice and music is fitting and sets the atmosphere. I got to the ending, thought “well, frak” to meself, recreated my little Ventrue and decided I’m gonna do things different! And I did. And got the same irritating ending. This got me wondering. I checked Achievements for a clue, then read up online. Guess what. There is only the one ending. And suddenly, what originally would have been a 9/10 review, dropped to 6/10.

Intro

Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York is a visual novel set in the universe of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition. I didn’t have any knowledge of the said universe, but a quick google search shows that the work was derived from a tabletop game . Since I never played the tabletop version before, I won’t try to compare the game with it and review the game as it is.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Shadows of New York

Vampire: The Masquerade – Shadows of New York weaves a familiar tale. Yet it is not a tale familiar out of triteness, but rather in its bleak and despairing contemporaneity. Shadows of New York artfully depicts our 2020 hell-scape, holds it up as a mirror and doesn’t so much ask whether or not we’re fucked as yell it in our faces.

It is a tale of a debauched, grotesquely wealthy elite presiding over a city of broken, desperate people, haunted by an impending apocalypse—climate-induced, technological, viral, pick your horror—precious few seem inclined to curtail, let alone prevent.

While my playthrough of Coteries of New York is still fresh in my mind, I feel it is now the best time to review Shadows of New York, its continuation. If not for the fact that my review of the previous game was written well after both of them were published, I’d have exclaimed “Well I’ll be damned, somebody actually listened to me!”. The main pain of Coteries was that your choices didn’t matter and the game streamlined you to the same ending. That is not the case with Shadows. The story is still not exactly branching out, but at least it offers you 2 different endings. The narrative feels much more personal as well, since you play as a preset character, Julia of the Lasombra Clan, whose personality is affected by your decisions. The game is rich in Julia’s inner monologue and it is there that those Traits you develop are reflected, offering slightly different dialogues and comments on certain scenes. So storywise - Shadows is a huge improvement from the already good-but-in-the-end-leaving-you-disappointed Coteries.

Red Embrace

Red Embrace

Not a lot of time has passed since my last ecstatic review of Argent Games' BL visual novel “Chess of Blades”. Quite soon we have a wonderful opportunity to enjoy their next masterpiece “Red Embrace”. It’s the third work of just a 2-person team and I’m totally thrilled with their talent. It was actually the first time I was curious who the developers were, being so impressed with their games.

Foremost “Red Embrace” attracted my attention with astonishing artstyle. Everything is so beautiful in this game. I simply couldn’t take my eyes off the MC. He looks really gorgeous.

Sexy vampires, nuff said!

Now to fill in the review. But seriously, Red Embrace is a fine BL/yaoi visual novel even if it doesn’t do anything really special. It’s very short (for 3/4 routes) and as such works with compressed narrative and a pretty straightforward (if accelerated) romance, in that dark urban fantasy vein. But its strengths lie in very compelling atmosphere mostly weaved by stellar soundtrack and attractive visuals; and also in details, character interactions, sensual moments… How should I say; it’s very sexy without having any explicit content what-so-ever.

Crimson Spires

Crimson Spires is one of those games for which I’m afraid I won’t be able to find the appropriate words to express my love, admiration and obsession. It hurts it has ‘Profile Limited Features’, as I was going to put it somewhere at top 2 among my favorite!

I started playing the game expecting some fun with vampire love option, nothing more, but… Surprisingly for me I didn’t even choose Julian first, though his sprite is literally breathtaking! What was especially enjoyable for me is August’s character! Oh my, I fell for him so deeply, it’s been a while! I wish the game had cards, I want his background for my steam profile! His route was so unique. I don’t remember any other game where I could romance a serial killer and professor of Philosophy in one.

Most of the world has no idea what it’s like to live in a backwater, American town with just the population of around 700. It can be dangerous living in a remote place all on its own, but add supernatural phenomenons to the mix, and one can find themselves feeling as though they might be going crazy. The event of the rising of the crimson spires – also referred to as “the towers” – is known as The Contingency. Tenebrae

Tenebrae

Features:

  • A visual novel with sensual love lines and aesthetic erotic scenes.

  • An alternative modern world, where vampires are an independent branch of evolution.

  • A detective story, presented on behalf of a young vampire Beatrice, transports readers to the modern Czech Republic, immersing them in an atmosphere of mysteries and secrets.

  • Dynamic storytelling with tons of Easter eggs, irony and sarcasm.

  • Four independent branches and events leading to different routes.

  • Eight unique love routes with heroes representing the seven deadly sins and purgatory. Everyone offers specific trials and demands sacrifices.

  • More than twenty endings at different stages of the game.

  • Approximately thirty hours of pure gameplay.

  • The classic mechanic of choosing the heroine’s actions is combined with communication via a mobile phone.

  • Bright, detailed characters and lively dialogues.

  • High-quality visual style.

  • Original soundtrack.

Which path will you take, Beatrice?

William’s route. Theme: “Wrath”

The phrase “the way to a man’s heart is through the stomach” absolutely justifies itself when it comes to this guy. Is a well-fed man a kind man? Maybe…

But given how primitive it is, you will quickly figure out which buttons you need to press for this killing machine to work in your interests. You will live as safely as behind a stone wall.

Sylvan’s route. Theme: “Envy”

Look at this sly face, biker outfit and… Still in doubt?

Silvan always comes up with flashy sarcastic jokes, he is a hopeless romantic with a craving for travel, a professional liar, a scoundrel and a very smart young man. Well, someone has to be smart, right?

Charlie’s route. Theme: “Gluttony”

The flirty administrator of “Tenebrae” nightclub herself will kindly offer to become your guiding light in the dark world of revelry and pleasure. As long as it’s to her advantage, of course.

This beauty will reveal you much more secrets than you expect if you decide to get close to her.

Ryu’s route. Theme: “Greed”

Ever dreamed of an affair with a real J-rock star? Are you sure? This guy is a real handful, but what really motivates him?

  • Oh, you… What is your name again? Will you kiss me for good luck?

Do you enjoy emotional swings? Then let’s fly!

Friedrich’s route. Theme: “Pride”

Do you like men in uniform and high ranks? Great, but they don’t care about you. Threatening with a boycott and hunger strikes? Why? Oh, right… He did ground you, after all.

Fraulein, have at least some kind of conscience, you are causing nothing but headache.

Morris’s Route. Theme: “Lust”

Already dizzy?

It’s all because of hunger. How can you resist and not bite when he asks for it? But it’s better to control yourself because your only chance of getting out of here is by winning the bet.

What? Such tortures are against the rules? Come on, a little masochism and delayed pleasure hasn’t hurt anyone yet.

Dante’s route. Theme: “Sloth”

What does a woman most often do when she sees a lost man deeply in depression in front of her? Of course, she saves him.

How does she save him? Oh, Beatrice has some specific ways. A bit of role-playing games, a little provoking, some improvisation, and now the guy is already…

Well, that was not a bad plan…

Martin’s route. Theme: “Purgatory”

With the detective, things are very difficult. Save him for last.

To get to his route, you’ll have to put some effort into it: find the right combination of messages and telephone conversations, without turning off that road.

After walking you through all seven circles of sweet Hell, Virgil will lead you to Purgatory. You will simply have to pass just a few deadly tests, and then you will be able to go through the gates of the real Paradise.

This, of course, is a metaphor, but we are not exaggerating.

Review with accompanying screenshots at Sinical Network

I recently received a beta key of this game for free from MyLifeforAiur as a translator and beta-tester for this game.

AsicxArt has released its 5th title on Steam for 2020 with Vampires' Melody, containing thriller, romance, fantasy and fan service. This visual novel features an apprentice chef Raylan Monroe, and a vampire girl Yella Lester. Raylan is gathering ingredients for his restaurant in the wilderness one day when he stumbles across a girl sleeping inside a tree who had taken shelter from a heavy thunderstorm.

Great indie VN that could give an experienced developer a run for their money.

Vampire Melody….just another day browsing the steam store and saw this one sale, decided to try this one out and what do you know! another great find!. This is the fourth game made by an indie develop called AsicxArt which I never heard of before but now they’re are definitely on my radar.

Now about the game

In a nutshell the reason I enjoyed the visual novel was:

(+) Live 2D sprite

(+) Multiple endings

Cute Bite

Cute Bite

Cute Bite is a fun raising sim where you take control of a butler (whose name you can decide, but her default is Saule) who is in charge of training the daughter of her former vampire master. The “Little Mistress” (also nameable; default is Buttercup), as Saule calls her, is far older than Saule herself, but after being confined to a coffin for centuries, she has lost many of her skills and reverted to the form of a child. It’s the player’s job to make Buttercup powerful enough within a year to complete the blood ritual which allows Saule to live.

A vampire has been locked away so long that her body has reverted to the size she was when she first became a creature of the night – when she was child. After being freed, she must build up her various skills to restore her adult form. Her faithful butler is more than happy to assist, but is she hiding something?

Information

• All romances take place after she regains her adult form. This game does not involve or promote pedophilia.

• Gameplay involves stat raising (which determines endings), and a hunting mini-game (to replenish energy via biting people for blood), along with other fun mechanics.

Libra of the Vampire Princess

Libra of the Vampire Princess

Just finished the game and for a visual novel, I have to say it was pretty well made. This is not an interactive visual novel, the only interaction you do in the game is choosing which route or story you decide to go. In total there are 4 routes, each being unique with a different storyline. I’d recommend playing all of them, not only to get your money’s worth, but each route has different backstory which you won’t find out in the other routes. BE AWARE there are BUGS which sometimes crash the game when I was playing, but I was easily able to get past it by messing around with the game settings such as turning off the screen effects and reverting it back after i got through it. Speaking of effects, I have to hand it to the graphics team. They did a really good job especially during the fighting scenes which made the game way more immersive. I’ve played quite a few visual novels, but this one was really unique. For example, they change viewpoints to different characters and you get a better perspective of each indivdual character. Overall it was a great game! 8/10

I did read alot of VN and liked this one as well. It’s more action based then most making it slightly diffrent and that is a good thing.

It’s true that some translations might sound a bit odd, but as I am not a native English speaker I didn’t had any issues understanding what was going on.

As there are not that many choices it reads more like a book, for some this might be a bad thing for me I don’t mind at least now I didn’t had to worry I missed some cg that is only available when selecting the right choices or be faced with countless of bad ends because I took a wrong turn.
