Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption

Pros..

1. Has a pretty solid story

2. great characters

3. has an amazing soundtrack

4. Doesn’t need to be modded in order to work like its counter part VTM Bloodlines

Cons.

1. Graphics are dated

2. Only allows 6 blood disciplines on your cast bar and you can’t key-bind your disciplines

3. The multiplayer doesn’t work and can’t even link up with friends through steam or even a LAN game.

4. Doesn’t have a steam workshop to fix bugs, add improved Graphics, or restore cut content.

5. Highly exploitable with being able to cast the discipline (awaken) on enemies to infinitely farm experience/gold which in turn makes the game insanely easy to play-through.

Short verdict: it will scratch your World of Darkness itch just as good as VtM: Bloodlines.

I played this game after completing Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines , which got me addicted to the World of Darkness mythos in the first place. And neither was I disappointed this time. In fact, I was surprised that this almost 20 years old game can perform so good and I can enjoy it so much.

Although the story is not as intricate as in some other RPGs and, in the single player mode, you can’t choose your clan, the story is quite interesting anyway. It’s a wonderful opportunity to participate in quests both in medieval Prague and Vienna, as well as in modern London and New York of the 1990’s. Redemption captures the World of Darkness spirit just as well as Bloodlines.

Cross the Moon

Cross the Moon

This was an amazing experience from start to finish. Not only were the individual elements of music, art, writing, editing and directing, all individually great; the way they all came together really raised it to a new level. Definitely up there out of all VNs I’ve played. It’s so cheap too, there’s no way anyone should miss out on this deal.

Cross the Moon is different from most VNs I’ve played. There’s no choices, just some collectibles for additional lore, but I don’t think that takes away from the experience. The art is on point? There’s fantastic use of color in the backgrounds, and I’m glad I picked up the OST too.

The story is well-paced, and I found it compelling, though it might not be to everyone’s taste. I was also happy to see multiple queer characters in the cast. And the 3 main characters are all POC which is kinda unique for a VN. The protagonists are a teenage boy, his older sister who’s just starting her career, (the siblings are vampires), and a police officer (who is human). They all intersect with the story and each other in interesting ways and, I don’t really want to say too much more and spoil things.

Dead of Night

Dead of Night

Dead of Night reminds me those weird adventure games that you would find on old computers (not something you see a lot these days). Gameplay can be vaguely described as exploration game with elements of surviving and stealth. You have to look for items hidden around the map and match them to correct puzzles. Although I think it relies a lot on nostalgia so it is a little clunky because of it. The game had some issues but most of them have been fixed. I finally decided to rewrite this review because the developer has been doing constant updates and supported the game despite poor sales.

Old review:

Monstrously good promise

Let’s hope it delivers.

Game has beautiful models, tight controls and great aesthetics. It really brings the dark fantasy Victorian setting to life.

Controls (the most important part of a brawler imo) are good and tight, I got into them in no time. Sadly enemy AI still need to get better.

Game is far from finished, and I’ve found a bunch of glitches. Let’s hope this game keeps up in the direction it’s going, and doesn’t fall short of the big promise the devs are making. If you want a finished game, I’d recommend you to wait and see how the game develops.

Vampire Slave 1: A Yaoi Visual Novel

Vampire Slave 1: A Yaoi Visual Novel

Vampire Slave 1 and 2 are a beautiful interpretation of the original yaoi novel Vampire Slave by Yamila Abraham. The writing is reverent, tongue and cheek, self aware! There is a clear emphasis placed on consensual love between two characters that want the best for each other. Thank you to Yamila Abraham for creating the brilliant piece of modern literature that inspired this game, and thank you Y press for making the next chapter sexually explicit.

It would be a neutral review if I could write one. I was contemplating to review the game after buying all the available chapters or when the story is finished completely but…the store page claims it’s a free game, right?! The next chapters are sold separately, have their own steam store pages, so I guess it’d be appropriate to put into words what I’ve experienced for now.

I’m a huge yaoi fan and adore vampire stories, submissive relationships are quite alluring to me, so when I saw this title Vampire Slave. A yaoi visual novel I knew I was gonna try it for sure. I’m grateful to the developer for creating such games, it’s not their first similar story, I even once was their backer at Kickstarter, participated in their discord until I was…disappointed:( I think it’s not right to mention any personal reasons, it’s a review about the game, not about the developer. I just decided for myself not to support them at Kickstarter anymore but games… I want to believe their work should be judged separately. Tho sometimes it’s hard to be unbiased. When I downloaded this free first chapter I didn’t pay attention by whom it was created. And as yaoi visual novels are still a rare case, I just can’t miss it.

Vampyr

Vampyr

If someone says “Do you want to play a game as a vampire?” the answer should always be yes, but it should be especially true for Vampyr.

This is by far the best vampire game in existence. Maybe it doesn’t have the weird early 2000s sexiness of Blade or Underworld, but let’s be real, those are both pretty stupid. Instead of new-age vampires, this is old school. It takes place after WWI when the spanish flu is ravaging and killing people. DONTNOD cleverly uses the epidemic to mask but also discuss vampirism as a similar affliction. That means you can see a world ravaged by two epidemics, though most unknowing about the vampire problem.

Words cannot accurately describe my love for this game. The environments, the voice acting, THE BLOODY MUSIC, its all sublime!!! Feeling the weight of your every choice makes this game a must play and is one of my top 10 games of all time.

The only “negative” I could say is the combat is ehh, if you are only interested in the story, I would just stick to easy mode

Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain

Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain

!!important note!!

This game has crashed a hell of a lot on my windows 7 PC; it’s just something to keep in mind.

What I liked about the game

  • Likable characters, like Uma, who are well voice acted.

  • I like how Kain draws blood from his victims.

  • Awesome boss fights.

  • I liked the Victorian/industrial setting of the game, especially at the start. I liked seeing the chimneys and the steam powered or magic powered machines.

  • The puzzles aren’t too head exploding.

Real player with 23.0 hrs in game

I used to have this game for the PS2, very fun, shorter than the other Legacy of Kain games, but fun. Most people seem to ignore it though, and/or dislike it, but that’s mainly because they probably don’t understand it. It is said this game is not necessary to play to understand the Legacy of Kain story. But it actually is significant, if you pay close attention. There are 2 ways to look at it; Kain’s purpose in this game after the first blood omen game, but before Soul Reaver 1. Then what it means after the events of Defiance. So in a manner of speaking, yes, Blood Omen 2 occurs twice, but seen differently after certain events.

Dead Dust

Dead Dust

Dead Dust is one of a number of games from developer HugePixel, and the first of his offerings I have played. And hoo boy have I played it. Can’t remember what I paid for it, but I can be rest assured that getting 17 hours of gameplay is a steal.

Let me start by addressing the complaints from other reviewers:

REVIEWER COMPLAINT 1 - “It’s too hard”:

When I first started playing I agreed with this sentiment. I thought as it was a twin stick shooter, that naturally an X-Box controller would be the best option. Like another reviewer, I think I made it to the second level, MAYBE the third but after that it was game over man. The enemy difficulty sure does ramp up tenfold once they get guns, but isn’t that just how it works in real life? Massacring unarmed enemies is bad for the soul anyway.

Real player with 17.2 hrs in game

The game looks deceiving from the store page. It’s actually pretty simple - nothing in the game works. Achievements are not unlocking, the extra characters are not unlocking, every level looks and feels the same, the enemies are the same, it’s boring in general. Also just take a look at the name of the game itself, so cringy.

Dracula: Vampires vs. Zombies

Dracula: Vampires vs. Zombies

Good bow mechanics, good take on waves with addition of rescues, powerups, enemies and most importantly - just fun to play! Stay for a quick play or stay for a while, it’s all good. The pace is frantic but manageable and satisfying. I’d love more cotent but what is there has replay value. Thumbs up!

Real player with 6.1 hrs in game

Not just another bow and arrow game! Its stupidly addictive and well made, the pace and variety is perfect. Working through the city is well worth the effort to make it to the forrest and instead of feeling like a chore like a lot of other similar games, you cant put the controllers down because you have to have one more go. The voice overs are brilliant, feels like an 80s film that can make fun of itself. Im sure there will be more levels to come, the devs seem to be pretty active and want feedback.
