Hunters Of The Dead

Hunters Of The Dead

This game is hard to get a good idea from looking at it on the store page. It is really good though, I got it on sale and have been very pleased. It’s kind of like plants vs zombies as far as gameplay, but has much less variation in units you control. They do however add new and unique elements to it to make it not simply a boring clone of pvz which is what a lot of these games turn out to be.

The game does require a whole lot of luck in order to beat it. You are not going to beat this early on, not until you have played and died tons of times. Not until you have played and built up enough gold in order to add global upgrades for all new games. It’s good and bad in that sense, it makes it not too easy or short, but also a bit frustrating that it is almost impossible early on. I saw one review that said you don’t run into monsters that often, but I seem to get attacked 1 out of every 2 or 3 moves that I make. Part of winning is just pure luck that you click on a spot and simply don’t get attacked during the round your players are resting. If you run into an attack your first 3/4 or 5 clicks it’s going to be tough b/c your guys will be resting and you can’t do anything which just lets your village get destroyed. You could also start off and not get attacked for 6 turns in a row with time to build up a nice army. This randomness gives me so many mixed feelings on this game. I have had several games that I run into dracula on my 2nd or 3rd enemy encounter and then it’s either game over or nearly game over.

The first thing to clarify: it is a rather limited, very mediocre indie game. So, there’s absolutely no rush to buy it. However, if you do get it via some bundle, a big sale, or another occasion… It might be not too bad, for one evening.

Technically, Hunters Of The Dead is a mixture of rogue-like turn-based exploring of the city, infested with the undead plague, and a tower-defense-like real-time action, somewhat similar to Plants vs. Zombies. You have 5 lines with squares to place your troops, your base on the left, enemies move from the right end of the screen, attack your troops, if there are any in their way, or simply rush themselves to the base, to decrease some of its defenses.

Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain

!!important note!!

This game has crashed a hell of a lot on my windows 7 PC; it’s just something to keep in mind.

What I liked about the game

  • Likable characters, like Uma, who are well voice acted.

  • I like how Kain draws blood from his victims.

  • Awesome boss fights.

  • I liked the Victorian/industrial setting of the game, especially at the start. I liked seeing the chimneys and the steam powered or magic powered machines.

  • The puzzles aren’t too head exploding.

I used to have this game for the PS2, very fun, shorter than the other Legacy of Kain games, but fun. Most people seem to ignore it though, and/or dislike it, but that’s mainly because they probably don’t understand it. It is said this game is not necessary to play to understand the Legacy of Kain story. But it actually is significant, if you pay close attention. There are 2 ways to look at it; Kain’s purpose in this game after the first blood omen game, but before Soul Reaver 1. Then what it means after the events of Defiance. So in a manner of speaking, yes, Blood Omen 2 occurs twice, but seen differently after certain events.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Final Cut

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Final Cut

I’d suggest to start the game as an elementalist for zooming adventures & farming fate points & use it as your crafting character(% reduced enchanting costs items) and then make a phlogistoner as your second character for farming gold & get you going through the hardest difficulty levels to earn that juicy 200 fate daily limit & then have fun doing whatever the heck you’d like to do, because you are probably going to be rich as hell that way.

Pros:

  • Main story is great to follow.

This is my, perhaps, final review of this game - I followed it from the very start, until this unification to one, complete and even better game.

A short description:

It’s an aRPG, in the full meaning of what aRPG is, and what it should be like. It resembles, reasonably closely, to Diablo 2. It offers a classic hack’n’slash experience, levelling, item hunt and character progression. In addition to this, rather uncommon to the genre, story is excellent, and game could even be played as an adventure. Ridiculously funny and witty, game follows a number of cliches - protagonist is a Monster Hunter, which (ever accompanied by his sharp-witted and even sharper-tongued ghost companion Katarina), comes to a fictional land of Borgovia, to rid it of a great evil - a group of scientist who took over the land after his father defeated ruling Vampire Princes. But the story just starts to unroll…

After adding the first Van Helsing to one of the most favorite games I’ve ever played, VH2 only polished and added to the enjoyment where the first one left off. I was still playing the first one up to the release of this game and continued playing it during this one. But VH2 not only left off where the last story ended, but improved on tons of things to make this game even more enjoyable than the first. So with this in mind, I wrote a review for people new to the series as well as one for people who have played the first game and are considering getting this one.

Van Helsing has his work cut out for him. For all the monsters he’s slain, the looming spectres of Diablo, Torchlight, and Path of Exile cast an imposing shadow over the rugged hero. To set itself apart, this modern dungeon crawler has to find a way to truly sink its claws into the player beyond the usual loot’n’grind. The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing II, the second part of a planned trilogy by Neocore Games, succeeds remarkably in carving out its own identity, but at the potentially steep price of polish and balance.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III

Firstly, this is an EARLY review, written on the very first day of release.

[And then updated excessively week after, with some 70h of gameplay]

And to say this first, game is not FULLY completed - you can play story and scenarios up to level30. More features (Neverending Story, levels up to 60, probably a few completely new features). If this bothers you, wait a while, instead posting negative review.

Rather than continuing leveling from VH2 - (characters can be imported, but they don’t keep levels and items, they DO keep glory points and are given Epic item at start), the game offers whooping SIX classes, some redesigned builds from earlier games, but some rather unique to the whole genre, as is strength-based-stealth class I play.

I’ve now beaten the game with the Constructor and Elementatlist classes and I’m still going. I’ve tried out the Bounty Hunter and Phlogistoneer. I expect I’ll finish the game with the Phlogistoneer next, it and the Constructor are my favorites so far. The Bounty Hunter is a fun unique diversion, but feels ill handled for spawning mobs that a few enemies can throw at you - probably better to play in multiplayer. The Elementalist became quite enjoyable as soon as I added Frost wall to my skillset.

Review

Van Helsing is sold pretty cheap every now and then. Despite the huge success of the first game, the sequels and the final cut which bundles all the games in one huge playtrough got very bad reviews. I am not a huge fan of hack & slash rpg´s but i like them sometimes so i decided to give the trilogy a shot. I managed to finish the game in a long session after 2 days and had lots of fun with this game.

Gameplay

Van Helsing doesnt really do anything new that any other game in its genre didnt do already. But what they did was adding the best aspects on many games and combine them. That doesnt mean the game is perfect, its far away from that. The different aspects work good together and offer a solid foundation for a great game.

Stop what you’re doing, do yourself a favour, just go buy and play this game. Or wait for a discount, it’s your wallet after all. I mean who am I to tell you how to live your life. I heard that they give you discounts up to 70%, which is always great. But this game is worth to buy either way.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, to which I’ll be referring as “TIAoVH” from now on for convenience purposes, is a great game with it’s gothic/steampunk atmosphere and memorable characters. The game takes place in the 19th-century Eastern Europe where magic and weird technology is real. You play as the son of the famous vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing and take on various adventures in order to defeat the reign of the mad scientists Dr. Fulmigati. Of course you encounter a wide variety of enemies from robots to werewolfs, harpies to mutant abominations, bandits to creatures that’ll be the very seed of your nightmares on the way. I mean, come on, it wouldn’t be a Van Helsing game unless you get to kill tons of different mobs. Also, your lovely ghost companion Lady Katarina is there to help you out along your journey. The balance between the characteristics of charming and witty Katarina and more down to earth, serious Helsing makes the dialogue in game much more enjoyable.
