Red Embrace: Mezzanine

Red Embrace: Mezzanine

Red Embrace: Mezzanine is a short (~1 hour or even less) free visual novel with point-&click elements, 2 endings rewarded with 2 achs. Unfortunately, for now the game has limited features, so those achs won’t appear on steam profile((

I’m sure even if someone didn’t play Red Embrace or Red Embrace: Hollywood the game will be interesting enough. I have almost nothing to complain about: visuals are great, music is perfect to set that gloomy mood, the writing is so potent dragging you deep into that dark atmosphere. That’s really amazing how that short story, maybe not even the whole story but some kind of prologue for the future game, can awake such powerful emotions. Really impressive!

As usual, fine. As usual, there is a light sadness after passing the game. And not only because the story itself is sad, because it concerns loneliness, loss and hopelessness, but because it shows us what we dream about at some point. We all probably dreamed that on some day someone (and preferably some handsome guy) would offer us to change our lives. But this did not happen.

It’s very nice that the story echoes Red Embrace: Hollywood. I am very glad that I somehow found Argent Games.

DARK

DARK

“Dark” is a third person stealth game, conceived and rendered in the tradition of games like

the Thief series and the Splinter Cell series. The gameplay, basics of operation, and plot points most closely resemble the Splinter Cell series. The storyline contains the ghost of the Vampire the Masquerade Series. In an effort to fairly review, I’ll compare the elements of other games like it and what made them successful with the elements of “Dark.”

Story:

You are Eric Bane. (Incidentally, the name Eric means “ruler” and Bane, of course means

I felt compelled to write a review for Dark mostly because I saw so many bad reviews. From what I can tell, there are primarily two types of people that hate this game: People who paid $50 for it and stealth game enthusiasts who were looking for another stealth game to play. While stealth is the primary combat tactic in Dark, Dark should be described as a vampire game that happens to use some stealth… rather than a stealth game where you happen to be a vampire. So if you are reading this review and you don’t play a lot of stealth games, but you like Vampire games, then you will probably like Dark. Overall, this is a solid game if you can get it for $10. I would say $20, but with a 7 to 9 hour campaign, it is really hard to justify $20. Especially when you can buy Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines for $20 and it will give you 140+ hours easy. Dracula Frames: Review

I showed up for the vampire and stayed for the puzzles. Bram Stoker would approve. He might even be stoked cough Moving on… ^, ,^

Dracula Frames was quite enjoyable, relaxing even. Well, except for when I did fairly poorly on a puzzle or two. Then I had to check my frustration. It was my own blunders, the puzzles just take a little patience and perseverance.

The art was wonderful, and the game is satisfying to complete. I did finish all 9 achievements. But I confess that the secret would have eluded me without help from the community guide. Shout out to Jamkolero. I did some of it on my own but I sincerely doubt I would have completed all the steps without help. You can wrap up the game in under 2 hours if you do not run into too much trouble with the slide puzzles. There are some 3x3 and 4x3 puzzles, I believe the largest is about 5x4.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

When someone mention this game, SOMEONE will install it. That lucky person is none other than me. How about the game you ask; and the answer is simple. It’s really, really bad. This game is made on source engine, which is undoubtedly one of the best and maybe the best engine at 2000’s. Half-Life 2 made on this engine. And Portal. And Team Fortress 2. You get the idea, if you are going to make a game with a gun - this engine is the golden choice.

But somehow and somewhat, Troika games blew it. The one and only purpose of this engine, which is developing first-person shooter game, and they really blew it all over. Just pick a gun and shoot something. It’s notoriously bad. When you minimize the game, the alpha layers of textures will be gone and all you left with black squares. It doesn’t have widescreen support. It doesn’t support higher resolutions. This game aged so bad that it stinks like a rotten cheese.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York

After playing through Heart of the Forest, another WoD story game, I was pretty hyped for VtM Coteries of New York. First playthrough - great impression. I picked a Ventrue lady and went ahead. Dialogues are very well written, characters you encounter are believable and colorful, graphics are really nice and music is fitting and sets the atmosphere. I got to the ending, thought “well, frak” to meself, recreated my little Ventrue and decided I’m gonna do things different! And I did. And got the same irritating ending. This got me wondering. I checked Achievements for a clue, then read up online. Guess what. There is only the one ending. And suddenly, what originally would have been a 9/10 review, dropped to 6/10.

Intro

Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York is a visual novel set in the universe of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition. I didn’t have any knowledge of the said universe, but a quick google search shows that the work was derived from a tabletop game . Since I never played the tabletop version before, I won’t try to compare the game with it and review the game as it is.

BloodRayne: Terminal Cut

BloodRayne: Terminal Cut

The “Don’t Escape Trilogy” is a collection of three short first-person point-and-click adventures with static screens (no camera movement, no scrolling). The games share a creepy atmosphere and a few gameplay mechanics, but are otherwise unrelated. In the first game, you play a werewolf trying to lock himself away before a full-moon night, so that he won’t kill anyone when he turns. In the second game, you’re trying to barricade a house and protect yourself from a zombie horde. In the third game, you’re the only surviving crew member on a spaceship and need to stop “something” from getting out.

Even though the entire trilogy is available for free on Armor Games, I chose to purchase this game series on Steam because that’s how amazing ScriptWelder really is. The Deep Sleep and Don’t Escape series were some of the first PC games I ever played, and I have ScriptWelder to thank for making my early experiences so magical. I have followed each and every game you have published on AG, hunted down every achievement, set of choices, and walkthrough I could find… simply, because every single second I spent in any of your games was one of either awe, wonder, fear, or curiosity.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption

Pros..

1. Has a pretty solid story

2. great characters

3. has an amazing soundtrack

4. Doesn’t need to be modded in order to work like its counter part VTM Bloodlines

Cons.

1. Graphics are dated

2. Only allows 6 blood disciplines on your cast bar and you can’t key-bind your disciplines

3. The multiplayer doesn’t work and can’t even link up with friends through steam or even a LAN game.

4. Doesn’t have a steam workshop to fix bugs, add improved Graphics, or restore cut content.

5. Highly exploitable with being able to cast the discipline (awaken) on enemies to infinitely farm experience/gold which in turn makes the game insanely easy to play-through.

Short verdict: it will scratch your World of Darkness itch just as good as VtM: Bloodlines.

I played this game after completing Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines , which got me addicted to the World of Darkness mythos in the first place. And neither was I disappointed this time. In fact, I was surprised that this almost 20 years old game can perform so good and I can enjoy it so much.

Although the story is not as intricate as in some other RPGs and, in the single player mode, you can’t choose your clan, the story is quite interesting anyway. It’s a wonderful opportunity to participate in quests both in medieval Prague and Vienna, as well as in modern London and New York of the 1990’s. Redemption captures the World of Darkness spirit just as well as Bloodlines.

Vamp Night

Vamp Night

It’s an interesting idea. Sort of a stripped down Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. There aren’t many quests and little interaction/dialogue with the NPCs. The developer is adding new content and improving the game, so it’s a work in progress. You basically wander the city sandbox and try to balance feeding and avoiding sunrise as well as hunters while picking up money. You can also acquire a haven and decorate it.

The game is a little dark and it can be a little difficult to see in some areas (even with the games brightness turned all the way up). The hunters literally come out of nowhere, but it keeps you on your toes. You can’t fight them melee, but you can shoot them (and anyone else who attacks you) using a gun you pick up.

Vampyr

Vampyr

If someone says “Do you want to play a game as a vampire?” the answer should always be yes, but it should be especially true for Vampyr.

This is by far the best vampire game in existence. Maybe it doesn’t have the weird early 2000s sexiness of Blade or Underworld, but let’s be real, those are both pretty stupid. Instead of new-age vampires, this is old school. It takes place after WWI when the spanish flu is ravaging and killing people. DONTNOD cleverly uses the epidemic to mask but also discuss vampirism as a similar affliction. That means you can see a world ravaged by two epidemics, though most unknowing about the vampire problem.

Words cannot accurately describe my love for this game. The environments, the voice acting, THE BLOODY MUSIC, its all sublime!!! Feeling the weight of your every choice makes this game a must play and is one of my top 10 games of all time.

The only “negative” I could say is the combat is ehh, if you are only interested in the story, I would just stick to easy mode
