Vampire’s Fall: Origins

Vampire’s Fall: Origins

The Good

  • Lots of character combination and class types – the caster, rogue, or hearty tank.

  • Excellent art work and atmosphere – although I like to think of VFO as ‘discounted dark fantasy’ it still has some nice moments.

  • Can confirm from trailer there definitely feels like there’s 100+ hours of gameplay, or at least two characters to test different combinations.

  • Random encounters means you could end up fighting a rat or some creature living under a tree that eats rats and who might one shot you if you’re not careful.

Red Embrace: Paradisus

Red Embrace: Paradisus

1999—Las Vegas, NV.

When you wake up on an unfamiliar couch, your skin cold and your heart silent in your chest, everything feels like a dream.

It’s all a blur. You remember an invitation, a strange figure, the sharp teeth sinking into your throat…and a blinding flash of light. Blood splattering against the walls.

What happened? Who turned you? What strange powers did they awaken inside your body?

Dive into the underworld of Sin City as a newly reborn vampire—and reveal a sinister truth beneath the glittering neon lights.

Red Embrace: Paradisus is an immersive vampire sim/narrative RPG. Inspired by Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Disco Elysium, and the Shadowrun series, RE:P seeks to create a dark, fully story-driven (no combat) vampire experience with branching narrative and multiple endings.

Vampires Dawn 3 - The Crimson Realm

Vampires Dawn 3 - The Crimson Realm

Vampires Dawn 3 is a more than worthy successor to the previous games of the series.

The story and characters are great, and some twists are simply spectacular. I enjoyed a lot the magic system with runes that can be combined to unlock different spells and to explore combat tacticts. The game world is believable and although there are many funny moments, too, the dark setting is one of a kind and the plot got me hooked from the first moment till the end. Especially the quite long prologue is simply phantastic.

POSITIV(+)

-Interessante Nebenquests / Nebengeschichten in den Dörfern.

-Runensystem

-Kampfsystem

-Alle NPC´s sind ansprechbar

-Interessantes, abwechslungsreiches Map-Design

-Charakterbilder sehen klasse aus

-NewGame+

-Regelmäßige Updates/Patches

NEUTRAL/GESCHMACKSACHE(/)

-Teilweise ultra schmalzige Dialoge

Latest (Experimental) Update Review

The updates for this game have elevated this game to the status of roguelike gem in my eyes. Before, I would have recommended this to anyone who is interested in roguelikes. Now, I would say it is an absolute must-play for any roguelike fan as well as point to it as THE quintessential introductory roguelike. I would say it is certainly better than the standard introductory roguelike recommendations (Brogue and Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup) because of its streamlined controls, well-implemented mouse control (you can do everything there is to do in the game with a mouse), well-designed menus (best menus in any roguelike I can think of), high customizability (can play with 4 directional or 8 directional movement, with mouse+keyboard or controller, with tiles or ASCII), rebindable controls (surprisingly not common in roguelikes), gameplay that isn’t dependant on spoilers (lots of roguelikes require spoilers to progress), difficulty settings (so a new player can actually see the end of the game and learn of mechanics that would otherwise kill them), great visuals (Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup has static and admittedly subpar tiles while Brogue has ASCII that Golden Krone Hotel simply beats with animated 8-bit tiles), music and sound (once again, not common in other roguelikes), and just the fact that it presents interesting mechanics and gameplay to players much sooner than any other roguelike typically does (a common complaint with Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is that the game isn’t interesting until you reach Lair).

Disclaimer: This review is for version 1.8 of the game which is the only one that I played. My understanding is that the game has improved significantly since its release and some of the features that I talk about here have been added after the original release (for example controller support).

Pros:

  • The music is great and fits well with the vampire theme of the game.

  • I love the controller support. This is very uncommon for rogue-like games and allowed me to play the game exclusively on my tv.

Covenanted

Covenanted

Covenanted is a hand-drawn rogue-like with RPG elements and an original turn-based combat system

A contract with the devil is always a bad idea [/]

The heroine of Covenanted, bound by a contract with the Devil, is on a journey through the magical world. Pursued by the Inquisition and blackmailed by the Devil, she has to balance between light and darkness in order to gain the support of powerful allies and break the endless cycle of rebirth

Combat Alchemy [/]

The journey is full of dangers! As the game progresses, the witch collects recipes for unique potions and gathers ingredients to make her magic even more powerful. Each recipe has its own unique effect

Procedural generation [/]

The global map of Covenanted is generated for each session. The variety of locations, the number of opponents and the available rewards are selected in such a way that each race is different from the previous one

Visual style [/]

We pride ourselves on the visual style of the game. All the main elements were drawn with ink on paper and digitized. The world of Covenanted is growing, our artists are working on new characters and locations

Random events and story quests [/]

We want players to feel the impact of the decisions made in story quests throughout the game. Despite one true ending, the fate of the Covenanted side heroes remains in the hands of the player

Fairy Middle Ages [/]

When creating the world, we were inspired by the worlds of the fantasy genre, world folklore, myths and legends. In Covenanted, elves and werewolves live in the same world with the characters of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales and ancient myths
