The good:

  • Technically the most competent VR video player I’ve seen and I’ve tried a whole bunch of them.

  • It can play more videos with less problems than more popular ones like Deo and Whirlwig.

  • It has a lot of settings for tweaking stuff.

The bad:

  • The UI reminds me of early Blender or GIMP somehow, and not in a good way.

  • It’s not a flat 2d UI in front of the 3d video, instead it’s inside the 3d space and positioned depending on where you happened to look when you pressed the menu button. I find it disorienting and annoying.

OVR Locomotion Effect - Anti VR Motion Sickness

OVR Locomotion Effect - Anti VR Motion Sickness

This program can have an overall change for vr users across the world, personally I do not have motion sickness but I use this as shader for my screen like when a game is too bright, it’s really helpful for immersion too :) also have you ever wanted to look through gas mask in vr well this can help you do so. Overall its a 9/10 for me.

This is your best bet for fixing your nausea in VR aka simulation sickness.

Think of this like training wheels for bicycle, use this until you get used to VR.

My favorite options are:

Room effect with circle view,

instant animation with the longest keep and hide time

even smaller circle for rotation

a dark big black room with white dense grid,

just a little transparency for room,

and some fixed effect for the left one. (circle is only small enough but biggest it can be for me to be able to see the room from all peripheral sight where it is most sensitive to movement physiologically, a weird sentence but you will understand when you try :D)

Wow! Works for ShadowPC + Quest + Virtual Desktop!!

Kinda amazed this actually works given my completely odd setup using a cloud gaming PC and wirelessly streaming VR, but here I am walking and lightly jogging to move in SkyrimVR, Gorn, and Serious Sam VR.

This software solution attracted me to try it because: (1) I can’t connect external foot trackers to a ShadowPC, nor would I really want to since the whole point of Quest to me is being able to have minimal setup and hardware and (2) using an arm swinging method I just figured would not work very well with the games I play where I am swinging my arms or holding them up quite a bit to actually play the game, like casting magic, shooting a bow and arrow or swinging a sword in Skyrim, hitting people in Gorn, or shooting all around me in Serious Sam, whereas this software does not require arm movement to work.

TL;DR I highly recommend VRocker as a walk in place solution for your VR locomotion.

How I Came To This Conclusion: In preparation for my index, I was researching the best options online for immersion. Based on my income it made sense to find a walk in place solution while gaming in VR chat, Rec Room, Pavlov, Alyx and Skryim. My first search led me to Kat Loco and while the price wasn’t too steep, the system was out of stock. This led to a recommendation of Natural Locomotion and the intriguing possibility of walk in place via joy cons and an android smartphone. I picked up ankle straps for the joy cons and a little pouch for the andriod phone off of Amazon. I strapped everything in, calibrated the devices and it simply did not work the way I wanted it to. The hand movement option was great but walk in place was unusable. That’s when i did some deeper digging and found VRocker. The hope I had in terms of movement in game was perfectly met. I sent back my straps and pouch to amazon and ended up spending far less that i anticipated to have my ideal experience.

MY WOLF - Desktop Wild Pet

MY WOLF - Desktop Wild Pet

The game is passive, meaning it plays in the background on your desktop in negative space automatically. It adds a lot of fun to downtime staring at my desktop, that is now live with a virtual pet! He’s with me for all my research, my work, and when I sign off for the night. The wolf grows on me, as I follow them around endlessly through the fields.

A great virtual companion for PC users. Great for people who like classic or creative desktops or screensavers. Makes Windows desktop a game itself. I hope for more updates and content, I hope for custom wolves too.

Surprisingly good and rather cute! This has the potential for a lot of promise.. No sound yet etc but it runs really well.. And now my wolf is getting older, he takes longer to stand up, can’t be bothered to chase the toys as much! He also learned to run from bears instead of try and fight, he can now defeat hostile wolves, got himself a playmate.. Even starts bugging me if i haven’t given him enough mouse pointer attention! It’s working across my weird three screen setup, not perfectly due to the FOV but that’s more my fault, as the main one is 4K and the others are 1080p.. But on a 1080 Ti its running rather well like that! For the cost and hopefully more development i’d recommend it! This has some great potential to be really interesting. Encountered the odd stuck bug but just restart it and its fine.. Be good if you could have more than one wolf though or an entire pack! :D An option to toggle slightly fancier graphics would be nice, maybe a ‘fix’ for people running weird screen setups? And as i type my wolf has done a poop and is now chasing off a hostile one! I need to stop watching it so much…

Piecewise: build chat bots with blocks

Piecewise: build chat bots with blocks

Despite being a solo dev, the developer of this software really knows what their fans want. On Friday, I had burned my hand with flaming oil and stayed eight straight hours in a neglectful “healthcare” facility that took eight hours to bandage my recently singed flesh. This left me with very limited use of my left hand, thus rendering me unable to make a chat bot by coding as it requires two hands to type. But with Piecewise, I can drag blocks onto blocks with just my mouse. This hero of a developer kept their clientele in mind, and made it so this software could easily be used with one hand. Obviously this was designed for people with limited mobility such as myself, as I cannot think of any other reason why this software should be used with one hand. These design choices lead me to believe that there is still hope left for humanity, 10/10.

VR Photo Viewer

Great for viewing stereo 3D .mpo files! Thank you very much.

Feature requests:

Could there be an option to turn the grey room to black? It would feel more immersive I bet.

Is there a way for the user to scale down the .mp0 files? Some of them are so huge in your field of view that it’s overwhelming. Maybe an up/down slider on the controller somewhere?

Thanks again…keep up the good work!

Displays normal photos but if I try to load my 360X180 shots, it goes black. And since I bought this software to view the orbs I´m editing, I find it very expensive and useless…

Update:

Got a quick response from the developer that identified the problem and got it to work… It looks amazing and helps alot when I´m editing and going over my 360x180 orbs… Thanks again… =)

PixelOver

PixelOver

This is a tool for pixel art that I wasn’t expecting I’d get in love with so much! ^^

Even in early access, PixelOver is a pretty solid and unique software. Also, it’s constantly & actively improved by the developer (and it kinda amazes me how fast he’s working with this project).

Here’s a (non exahustive) list of features from PixelOver that I like a lot :)

  • It converts normal 2D art to pixel art (you can use bitmap files and vector files!)

  • Customizable palettes, shaders and dithering for pixel art conversions

Real player with 39.2 hrs in game

it’s Early Access, but it gives you enough tools for it to be worth a buy! Quick and easy bone animation, but it’s not just that, you have other options, like transform, deform and skew! A warp transform tool would be so amazing if added!

You can manipulate these tools on every individual frame on your animation if you want!

PixelOver is pretty useful! I love it!

thEiAoLoGy

thEiAoLoGy is an Early Access free to play game with VR support. Worked on Win 10, look ok, played bad, sounded ok. It did work somewhat playing it from desktop. Minecraft like graphics.

CONS:

  • Alt + F4 does not work to close this program.

  • It didn’t work at all on my HTC Vive HMD, even though it says HTC Vive support.

  • Has No instructions or clear instructions.

  • Has No Exit button, i had to use Task Manager to End Task it while in VR.

  • Could not Rotate while in desktop.

  • Could not Alt + Tab out of the program window.

Puppet Play 🎬

Puppet Play 🎬

You have the idea, we have everything else!

Puppet Play aims to make animating as easy as possible by utilizing the possibilities of VR headsets. In traditional animation tools, animating is done by manipulating gizmos on a 2D screen. In Puppet Play everything is animated by recording your movement in real-time. This not only makes animating easy but also super fast. No matter the prior experience, if you have a cool idea for a movie you can turn it into reality in a few minutes (depending on your idea it might take a bit longer)!

Grab an object → press record → move it around & repeat!

Additional tools like motion capture, remote control & auto walk support the process. Use your headset to record live audio and once everything is complete, export and share your creation in a standard video format (mp4).

A huge collection of different characters (not only puppets), props and environments are ready for you to use! All things animatable are separated into 3 categories:

Puppets: Characters with Full-Body-Inverse-Kinematic rigs for fast animations

Props: Large objects to build & decorate your set with.

Items: Small objects that can also be attached to the puppets, like weapon, hair & hats.

You are in your own movie studio with many different sets that can be further customized with props. They range from traditional puppet theatres to fully-fledged 3D scenes for your next epic cinematic trailer!

A puppet on a stick or a full 3D character with individually animatable limbs: Choose what fits your vision & time scope. Short on time but still want to tell a story? Choose puppets on a stick! Got a bit more time on your hand and want to go into detail? Then choose a fully animatable humanoid character!

It’s designed for VR, there is no place for 2D UIs! All interactions are physical and integrated into the movie/puppet studio world. Or to say it in cool UX design terms: It’s a fully diegetic UI!

Once your animation is complete, you can export and share it as a standard video file (mp4). You have all rights to upload and monetize anything you make with our tool!

Puppet Play is being developed by a team of freshly graduated students from Hochschule Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. Puppet Play started as a semester project in the study “Animation and Game” at the campus.
