Experience the Energy: Take the Tour

Experience the Energy: Take the Tour

Experience the Energy: Take the Tour is a free VR experience about the Oil and natural gas industry in Canada. It worked on my system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. You can do this one sitting in center of your play area. The energy industry is funding this to recruit workers.

Try this, if you are interested in learning about the Oil industry.

Oddly I preferred this non-interactive video experience more than the interactive mini-game one. Mainly because they are both not very scintillating topics. I mean, it’s kind of interesting, but not like videos about jungle animals or cool space stuff. It’s the energy industry preaching to you. It has marvelous video quality though. It’s so high you can’t really tell if it’s monoscopic or not.

! You’re monoscopic! https://youtu.be/OmUDXQISf6o

Fianlly! I can listen to Bassdrive and play CS:GO with with Raybeem streaming some visuals for me. It works very well for me. Raybeem by itself is nuts. If this is where VR is headed then I’m down for the ride.

Singulive

Singulive

Singulive is an Early Access Free VR experience that is a social music venue. It worked on my HTC Vive system, looked good, played ok, sounded good, was understandable. This program released 17 Augt. 2021. Has English and Spanish as language choice. Didn’t notice this program was Oculus Rift only, but works somewhat on HTC Vive, although missing some minor features. Currently, has Two music sessions, both in Spanish, with 3 songs each, then there are 3 other artists coming soon. The camera work was good and crisp. I could not read the news. You need to make an account by launching the registering program first. Has a meeting room for friends and that you can invite Steam friends. I guess you can also play the music sessions with friends. Has five maps that you can visit to experience music. During a music session, you are locked in place. The artist is like a hologram on the stage.

Had this for a few days. You have to create an account, so I keep trying to create an account. I enter my email, make up a password, but when I hit the button to create the account, nothing happens. I made a post about this in the discussion area, but have yet to get a response.

I’ve been wanting to learn about chords for a long time. This program is very simple, and I certainly wouldn’t use it for music production, but it seems like a great education tool.

This program is not a game, but a timer, that you can use to track concentration sessions. It’s good to use with the Pomodoro technique.

Some things that I suggest as an improvement are:

  • allowing one more sound to be played besides (wind) and (fire), so that you could hear wind + fire + rain OR wind + fire + snow; and

  • make a “mini view” possible, displaying “clock”, “minutes to go”, “sound effects” controls and “music control”, in a smaller window size.

If the creators really want to “gamefy” this app, I suggest offering in a “shop” different objects to decorate the cottage: vases, plants, calendars, pictures, books, cookpots, rugs, lights, mattress and pillows colors, etc. We’ll not buy those items, but rather receive points on sessions completed according to sessions' durations of time. Then, we can you those received points to “buy” those itens in the “shop” and build our own inventory.

Let’s start with the fact that it’s not really a game, it’s fancy timer and as timer it totally could do better.

You set a name, a time and if you want a signal when it’s out and when it is you may set new one. If you ask me I think it would be nice to make kind of “pomodoro mode” and allow to set 2 timers, for work and for break, so when one timer is out you press “next” without spending time on writing. Though one is nice too.

I love there’s set of white noise generators - can pick few at a time and pretend it’s gross weather outside while you sit here warm by fire. Having a plaid irl totally helps with mood. There’s also music option but nothing I personally like or usually listen so 🤷‍♀️

This is not what I would call a great exercise app for VR. It’s definitely missing a lot of the bells and whistles you might expect from a top tier workout program for VR. The visuals aren’t the best. The interactions are very basic. The UI looks pretty bad.

However, it’s very cheap and it gets the job done, especially if you need rehab exercises / light workouts. This also works as just a meditative experience for VR. There are 2 maps: the forest and the garden. In my opinion, the garden looks a whole lot better than the forest.

I really enjoyed the universe this game brought me to. It consists of a beautiful world filled with dazzling colours and quirky creatures which creates a feeling of otherworldliness. The music option should always be ON as the classical pieces really goes well with this mystical world. The yoga and physiotherapy classes are easy to follow along with, although a bit low intensity - which is understandable as it is meant for rehab. Overall a very relaxing and pretty game!

Pixel Game Maker MV

Pixel Game Maker MV

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m now ready to weigh in my thoughts on Pixel Game Maker MV. I’ve been using this software since early access back in 2018.

TL;DR:

Pixel Game Maker MV is a great game development engine for those that are not programmers, and want to be able to create either side scrolling or top down action games. It’s got enough for a single person development operation to chew on here to create the game you want to create in the way you want it created; bearing in mind that you operate within the program’s limits. If programming/scripting is outside your reach (or if it’s something you can do), this is a great engine that has the potential to be amazing as long as the developers continue with updates & performance improvements. There are assets and DLC that is available at the time of writing for you to get a jump on a concept quickly, but there are no asset standards (outside of keeping things divisible by 2) to conform with.

I’ll begin this review with I’m 36, not 16. I have no illusions about making a game and distributing it for gain. This is a hobby for me and that is the perspective I write this review from. I have a day job. I moonlight as a hobby pixel artist, and that drives me to dev software to have fun with, and bring it to life.

I began with RPG Maker MV as my first dip into game dev software. I do not have a desire to learn to code so that software was more interesting to me compared to more advanced engines. After years in RMMV I felt the want for more control from the ground up, and not be boxed in by hard limitations from the software, and the need for plugins to break through those hard limitations. Pixel Game Maker MV grants me that feeling. I did not feel like the learning curve to get going on a project was difficult, even without a large database of video tutorial content on YouTube at the time.
