The game at its core is fun and enjoyable. However, playing online is NOT an option at all. Ranked queues take forever (whether this is a lack of players or global funcitonality I do not know, but it is impossible to find a game). Also crashes everytime I play with a friend. Better offline.

Steno Arcade

Steno Arcade

First of all, this is a steno game. What is steno? Look here at me playing this game on a QWERTY keyboard and a steno machine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtQzTUEuPWo You can see that I don’t write individual letters, rather words at a time. And writing words at a time means that my hands don’t move much, much less than a QWERTY keyboard where you have to type every letter.

The steno machine is much faster at text entry than a regular keyboard, but it takes months to become proficient. Part of the reason that many haven’t heard of steno is that for the longest time it wasn’t public information! A major stakeholder in this game, Mirabai Knight, tried to bring steno to everyone, starting in 2010. She first had a program made that interfaced with steno machines and handled all the steno logic → that program is Plover, and I use and develop it now.

I’ll divide this review for two audiences: Uninformed and transcribers in the shorthand trade.

Uninformed:

If you stumbled upon this game, you might be wondering “What the heck is steno?” which is fair question. This is very niche product for a speicifc trade/industry in which you might recognize in captions on Television or Court reporters (sometimes refered as stenographers). This means that you need a specific usb-equipped shorthand steno writer and download an open source software to convert what you input into that writer onto your computer - you still following me? - and also you’ll need to learn the complete theory and methodology of how to write steno. If you’re still confused or uninterested thenn this is obviously not the game for you.

Typing Incremental

Typing Incremental

This is a really really good typing tool; it lets you type at your own pace without a time limit, or fail state like other typing games have, so it’s easy to focus specifically on the elements of typing itself, and not have it get tossed to the wayside/overshadowed by other game elements happening. The ‘gradual upgrade’ progression that this has gives it the same kind of feeling like a clicker/idle game such as Cookie Clicker can give as well, and can make it easy to sink time into and focus on. I finished the first 1,000 words in one sitting, and after I was done, I genuinely felt this weird as hell (but satisfying) tingly sensation in my left hand, where the tendon controlling my pinkie and ring finger is, similar to the kind of feeling you’d get after a good workout or something. No other typing game I’ve played has resulted in anything like that. I would have played up to the 2,000 word count as well, but I genuinely physically couldn’t continue without my WPM plummeting to a snail’s pace. This game’s gonna get my left wrist swole AF 💪.

Great game for typing practice!

Noticed a bug where if you buy the upgrade increasing max letters for the 13th time, while having your mouse on that button to see the detailed information, the details wouldn’t disappear even though the upgrade button is gone.

Also could you please make it so that the game doesn’t make it so that the list progress resets when you just want to know what prestige upgrades there are? I lost 2 list progress and now have to start from step 1 all over again.

So. Lemme begin by saying that I absolutely love this game.

The Gameplay

It has Both a singleplayer and multiplayer mode. The singleplayer is… well. not very fun. You just draw stuff to your creativity; BUT you can invite your friends and draw whatever you want in the same canvas, and it is necessary for the competitions with amazing rewards that take place in the Discord Server . The multiplayer has 3 different gamemodes, which are:

A really fun community experience that has the chaotic flavor of the Cook, Serve, Delicious series combined with the feeling of victory that only true teamwork can bring. The theme song is incredible and is worth launching the game just to listen to.

Frog Fractions: Game of the Decade Edition

Frog Fractions: Game of the Decade Edition

Many of my friends may describe me as scholarly, educated, a menace to society. In all my years of education not one person, teacher, computer program, textbook, or any other form of education has compared to Frog Fractions. While I once thought I was talented in the act of mathematics, Frog Fractions proved me wrong. In a simple 4th of an hour, I have gained more knowledge than ye average scholar over a lifetime. Luckily this piece of knowledge is free to all, although it is clearly best with the ten dollar expansion, a hat for said frog. It is beyond the simple humans comprehension to describe the experience and knowledge in a four hundred page scholarly article. Please spend as much time as possible in this application, not only is it educational but a gift to humanity as a whole.

Before discovering this game, I was arrogant. What could some silly frog teach me about fractions? Of what use could this game be if my typing skills are already godlike?

How wrong I was.

Thanks to Frog Fractions, I have found a whole new level of understanding. It has unlocked the latent power of my amphibian brain. Name any fraction, and I can calculate it in my head. When I type, I type so fast my old keyboard couldn’t keep up so I had to have one custom-made. This review took me two seconds to type thanks to the skills this game has taught me.

Submorse

Submorse

All I need now is a telegraph Morse key gaming mouse…

Submorse is a very good game to casually learn Morse code. It’s pretty addictive too once you start doing the time trials. Walking around in the sub is a nice touch for atmosphere. There’s a basketball and goal to mess around with. There is also a radio you can choose various songs on, although I would suggest you turn off the radio (and turn off success audio) before you try to do Morse code. You will find 3 interactive monitors in the sub. The monitor closest to the basketball goal is the one you do Morse code on. You will also see the internet high scores of the Submorse time trials on one of the other monitors in the sub once you’ve completed a time trial. Another monitor will let you adjust the game settings.

TLDR:

If you want to learn morse code, or really just want to challenge yourself and pick up some cool knowledge along the way, then this game is definitely for you. Even people who might not be interested in morse code, will have a great time playing this game. I know I definitely did.

The only thing I personally felt that was missing from this game was more content. Though it certainly didn’t take away from the fun experience I had with the game.

Hacker Evolution

Hacker Evolution

Simply surprising, great music… I may not become an hacker but I can play as one without special stuff.

You’re a renowned IT specialist that retired as an ermit on an isolated island following your family’s death. However, you’re asked to investigate on 4 different problems, that seemed tied. What will you discover?

Hacker Evolution is perhaps a writing simulator, as you need to type the command but you need your brains to avoid to be traced and to have a game over. Sometimes, you’ll need to begin a new campaign because you can’t do anything but try a different manner to avoid spending too much money you’ve “stolen” or to add to your trace level. That’s perhaps the most frustrating thing in HE.

Intro

Hacker Evolution is a hacking simulation game which is played in terminal. You’ll use several commands to do the “hacking” and some of them are real terminal commands. This game might look similar to Uplink in the shell, although the execution is quite different.

Music

There are some soothing musics played in the background. You can also change the music selection by pressing F4.
