Desert Pirates

Desert Pirates

Lead a post apocalyptic war convoy made out of badass cars driven by unusual characters. Travel across a dangerous and endless desert filled with resource seeking opponents.

In this experience inspired by movies like Mad Max and spaceship roguelikes, you can expand and improve your convoy, find new cars and swap out their weapons and tools, upgrade, repair and refuel them, feed drivers and give out orders to help everyone survive.

How far can you ride?

Features

  • Unlock and collect badass cars: Find cars to restore in every run, and store them in your garage for later use. The desert is filled with hidden surprises!

  • Make runs with different convoys: Change your Convoy to fit your playstyle! Choose between Soldiers with Nitro, Heavy Soldiers with special weapons, start with additional food or gas, special systems like Shields, Radars, Decoys and more!

  • Survive the desert: You will need to destroy enemy settlements in order to get the resources you need to repair and refuel your cars, and to keep your followers fed and hydrated.

  • Give orders to your Convoy: Stay together, or split up! Changing orders on the fly can give you an advantage against your enemies. Light RTS mechanics are gaining traction during development (stay tuned!).

  • Classic Roguelike Features: Permadeath, Upgrades, procedurally generated areas. Every playthrough is different.

Tunguska: The Visitation

Tunguska: The Visitation

This game is very hard, but in a strategic way. It requires no aiming skill or reflex, and you have plenty of time thinking about what to do to solve each combat scenario. Sometimes it’s more straight forward, and other times you have to die a few times to figure out the right way. It’s all about attention to details - some enemies wear armors, for example, and you can tell it from their appearance. But if you ignore that intel and just start shooting without the right kind of ammo, you’ll just be waiting ammo. There is a lot of details in the dialogues and journals, and you must pay pretty close attention to not miss important information.

6 hours in, and I really like this game. I first heard about it a couple of years ago on a Stalker forum, and my first impression from the previews was good. Now that I’ve had a chance to play the game, that first impression has been reinforced. Tunguska’s setting is moody and atmospheric. The gunplay and stealth are straightforward but challenging, and the overall result is a fun top-down twin-stick “shooter.” Quotes because there’s more to this than running and gunning – there are some light RPG elements, and a heavy element of exploration.

Final Days

Final Days

I have been an pre alpha tester of this game and personally know the developer so please keep this in mind when reading my review.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the testing of this game. It is a simple game mechanic and style that is done very well.

It’s multiplayer is of a very high calibre and I have had some awesome moments while playing with larger groups doing silly things like charging into a room together then relaising how badly you are out number fleeing and closing the door behind you with other members of your team still in a room with a horde :)

Game is entertaining, stable, and well-done for a solo developer. Music is good.

Multiplayer hosting requires a bit of extra work to set up (uPnP or port forwarding), I can see this being a problem for some, but if I managed to do it, you probably can too. Community is rather microscopic, but the bots are actually quite decent. [EDIT: See developer response 25 Jun 2019; Thanks Mike!]

The game is not very expensive and there’s a free demo, so no reason not to try the game at least.

I’m partial to Last Stand game mode, given I like games like Nation Red and Versus Squad, but the other modes are also very good.

Too Many Zombies!

Too Many Zombies!

It’s actually quite a lot of fun, even solo. Mix in the ability to add up to three friends on Steam through Steam Remote Play and they don’t even need to buy this game via Remote Play.. and this game seems like a decent value.

It’s got a tutorial, and two modes, survival and campaign.

The controls are good, the campaign stays interesting with new different objects to complete besides just blasting zombies. The crafting and resource collecting add fun and value as well.

I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT!!!1

I highly recommend this game if your looking for a good twin stick shooter that won’t take much of your time. From playing the Xbox 360 version to now the Steam I can tell you that this game hold up very well. What makes it better that it is a free experience so if you don’t enjoy it you just have to uninstall. When you get a chance definitely take some time into playing it.

FINALLY. This was easily one of my favorite games back on Xbox Arcade. It’s not that it’s a huge game. To be fair it’s a chaotic mess, but it’s so much fun. The soundtrack meshes perfectly with the gameplay too and was well worth the $1 cover charge the game used to require. Hopefully “I MAED A S0NG W1TH Z0MBIES 1N IT” makes it’s way to Steam soon as well since we can have soundtracks now. The only thing that could make this game better is more of it but for a bite sized 10 minute adventure this one is hands down one of the best.

Action Commando

Action Commando

Action Commando is a Town of Machine spinoff focused entirely on combat. Hub-based world design, inventory management and most of the character interactions have been removed / de-prioritized in favour of fast-paced combat where your only concern is what’s trying to kill you at a given moment. While it lacks the depth of Town of Machine, it works really well as a coffee break, action-packed, top-down shoot’em up. Unlike in its predecessor you don’t have to worry about inventory space and quests - just go forward and blow things up… and it kind of works. The game is pretty short and unfortunately set almost entirely underground which makes the levels blend together but it’s not that big of a deal considering its lenght. Give it a try if you ever feel like mowing down monsters for a few hours.

A well-crafted, action-focused twin stick shooter with a good dose of humour. It’s a spin-off of Town of Machine that’s set in the same universe. While it uses many of the same assets as ToM, it’s more action-orientated and simpler to play.

Made by single person, its production values are excellent - gameplay, graphics, sound: all are top-notch.

It’s worth playing Town of Machine before this, but not wholly necessary.

First Impressions:

A very comfy shmup! Absolutely love the production value, each level so far feels unique and filled with action - there’s a lot of stuff and foreshadowing happening in the background of every mission.

Update after finishing the main campaign:

What I stated above holds up for the whole game, really enjoying all the action and variability in each map.

The game gets extra satisfying, as you learn the enemy types, their attack patterns and sequence of the encounters. Especially when going for some of the harder objectives, like no damage received.

This game is quite difficult at first, but is a total riot once you get the hang of it.

First hour I died a lot and couldn’t get through even the second mission, tried probably 20 times.

But I made the mistake of focusing on dealing damage, rather than avoiding it. Starter weapons are pretty weak and can’t destroy enemies quickly before they fire, so just make dodging projectiles a priority and don’t worry about missing enemies.

Later in the game when you pickup weapon upgrades you can get more aggressive - and that’s where the fun begins!

Doomsday Hunters

Doomsday Hunters

This is a great game! If you love rogue lights this is the game for you! A middle ground between binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon. I Dracula Genesis delivers with fun and varying game play. The game really can be a challenge too! One of the best rogue likes in the making!

I honestly have to say this is in my top 3 games of all time. Great game!

I would like to see a lot more content at the end of the game. I want more challenges to push through with powerful endgame builds. Fields of mobs that come at me. Over the top bosses. As of right now it feels amazing to get a victory on this game on universe 3. It’s a lot of fun, but it also feels like it kind of robs you short like you want to take on another challenge. There is always another run though, and it is a very difficult game! If you give it a try get ready for some real adrenaline moments when things get close!

At this point I feel I’ve played and seen enough of this game to recommend it. I, Dracula: Genesis (that is a Kingdom Hearts tier name right there) seems to have inherited a lot of great design philosophy from its predecessors like Enter the Gungeon and Nuclear Throne, and it does the most impressive job of mashing them together I’ve so far seen in the rogue-‘ish’ genre.

The first thing that stands out to me is how solid the interactive physics and gameplay model is. Right from the get go, you feel a unique weight and chunkiness to movement and shooting, and it gives the gamefeel a flavour that distinguishes from its contemporaries. The addition of a jump mechanic, with elements of light platforming throughout, is a really fun addition to the ‘shoot stuff’ gameplay, though individual platforming challenges often leave me scratching my head wondering “how the heck am I supposed to reach that”.
