POSTAL
I Regret Nothing
POSTAL is one of those games, even after all these years, you can still pick it up and truly appreciate for what it is and how it affected the view of video games back in 1997. Unlike it’s sequel POSTAL 2, this game is extremely dark, (in which HATRED tried to do and then some, but personally found it to try too hard.) Postal is an isometric top-down shooter where your goal is to kill all enemies (or 90% of them) in the map and move onto the next area. Due to what a lot of people believed, you don’t actually have to kill innocent people! Though what’s the fun in that? … It’s not, it’s painful trying to complete the game without killing any innocent people.

Having played this games series to completion (well, almost: what, you mean to tell me that you actually got all the way through Postal 3?!), I feel that reviewing them all is necessary. This game, however, is going to be difficult to review. It’s not that it’s a badly made game or that I hate it (on the contrary). The problem is that it’s such a disturbing game that I may end up on a watchlist for recommending it. Whatever! Here it goes.
The first installment of the Postal series is of humble origins, provided that your definition of “humble origins” involves being banned in 14 countries, being blacklisted by most major retailers and being mentioned by Senator Joe Lieberman to the Senate as one of the “three worst things in American society” (the other two being Marilyn Manson and Calvin Klein underwear ads). Postal is a game about a guy (the Postal Dude) being bombarded with demonic mental images and voices convincing him to murder society as a whole. Each level is a neighborhood, truckstop, air force base, shopping mart, etc. of innocent people and hostile people (“hostile” being cops, government agents, well-armed vigilantes and other people who are merely trying to stop a madman with weapons from murdering everybody). You are instructed to kill at least 80-90% of the hostile people before progressing to the next level. Unlike the succeeding two games, the only morality choice you’re really given is whether you want to kill only the people trying to kill you or kill everybody.

Undead Blackout: Reanimated Edition
I wasn’t holding out much hope for Undead Blackout, but I can say in all honesty that it managed to underwhelm me even beyond those minimal expectations.
Graphically, the game is very dark. It’s nearly impossible to see anything, which tells me that the “gimmick” for this game is nothing more than a poorly done game of, “Hide & Seek.” While I will admit that it was a bit creepy the first time I enountered a group of zombies standing with their backs to me, that only works once. It ceases to be interesting when it’s overdone.

I reccomend this ONLY IF you’re ok with ‘top down’ view. This wasn’t for me but it’s still an ok game. Here’s my Lets Play

DOOMTANK
I was initially expecting some sort of tutorial, or something to tell me how to play the game, but that’s not DOOMTANK’s style at all. Just die, and die some more, and maybe get a good score once in a while! The game will taunt you the whole time. It’s a great game for quick score-chasing, and I’m having a lot of fun so far. Basically my strategy has been: hide in a corner, wait for a decent power-up, then go to town; and hope you don’t get a ridiculously difficult level when it changes!
Happy dying!

Pretty great twin stick shooter. Cool atmosphere with the Doom inspiration. Pretty killer music. You will die during level transitions but that’s part of the fun. Just wish for the tri-shot and rockets. Have a gory time!

Shadow Walls
A good indie game. It is not really a horror game but an action game. There is an atmosphere of suspense through sound, but the theme is action. The difficulty is well balanced, which is very rare in the indie scene. Today, I arrived in the last phase, I believe there was a short time to finish, but it is not easy. There is a good progression of the difficulty that increases gradually and peaks in the last phase, of course. My only criticism is the flashlight, which in fact is useless, just decoration. The developer has a style that can be recognized in other works and knows how to do a good level design, this is very good. And finally, the game has an originality, something also difficult to achieve today with so many titles. Congratulations.

Very nice game to play and with a lot of challenge. It is undoubtedly a great deal for the price. If you are looking for a fun and challenging experience, this game is for you.

Enemy Remains
Yelp Rating: 4/5
Graphics: When starting off in the first level, you are greeted with a wonderful, yet gore-filled map with calm, yet unsettling tones. When making your way through the maps, you will be greeted with much more colors that really bring the eerie feeling of the game. As you adventure throughout the map, you will come across other gore scenes, such as animal intestines and mobs.
Gameplay: The concept behind the game is simple. Shooter game, figuring what the hell happened, defeating hostile mobs, along with bosses, which vary if difficulty as you progress. You come across crates filled with loot, traps, explosives, and much more! There are a variety of weapons to use, especially figuring out the best combo for bosses and mob gang-ups.

Enemy remains is your classic top down shooter with various power-ups and weapons found through the game to use at your disposal. It has various traps and enemies which can have extremely variations of attack. The bosses are challenging but not super difficult where it makes you want to quit the game. The mechanical machine you ride in could use some type of attack or two but man can it run stuff over! If you like making monsters suffer this is your game! I have yet to try the multiplayer aspect so this review will be edited.

Ritual: Crown of Horns
Summary: While Ritual may be in need of some quality of life improvements in certain areas, its fast-paced action-packed and strategic gameplay mixed with a metal soundtrack and varied weapons and abilities, create a difficult yet fun and engaging take on the Wild West. 8/10

Plot:
The writing is not a case of being a masterpiece but they certainly do the job, creating engagement and intrigue throughout. The characters bounce off each other reasonably well, with them often questioning each other or even outright annoying or teasing one another. It is unfortunate however that one doesn’t get nearly as much dialogue like that of the others, but regardless character design works. There is no mistaking the plot plays second to the gameplay in Ritual, never the less for those who are looking for a decent story in amongst all the carnage, there is an interesting one to be found here.

When it comes to top-down shooters, nothing beats tangling it up with hordes of monsters and all you have a six-shooter and pure luck. These are the kind of games that are exciting, fast-paced, and 100% rage-inducing. Ritual: Crown of Horns, from small indie studio Draw Distance, checks all the boxes.
Stylistically, this is a nice looking game. The art style heightens the grim landscape that we find our protagonist, Daniel Goodchild in. The music, a bold mix of heavy raw guitar and western-inspired melodies, only adds to the chaos that we’re about to dive into. Unfortunately, those two important elements are sometimes not enough to ease the frustrating aiming system and the unnecessarily hard stages you must clear.

One Shell Straight to Hell
(Review was updated on Dec 2021) I’ve spent many hours alpha-testing this game and decided to buy it on release day. Here are my thoughts so far, a list of positive and negative elements:
The good stuff:
-
Uniquely witty main character.
-
Good variety of unlockable skills and lootable guns, be it primaries or secondaries.
-
The setting: a terribly haunted mansion property set in the 1910’s - 1920’s.
-
The Padre’s voice actor probably smoked 10 cigars and drank too much whiskey. Fantastic.

One Shell Straight to Hell
There’s a brand-new Roguelike indie title on the streets; One Shell Straight to Hell. One Shell Straight to Hell lets the player experience the best of two worlds with its well-put-together Roguelike dungeon-crawling gameplay with a touch of base defense elements mixed in.
At first glance, the game seems to be simple enough with its Procedural Generation World. But as you cross the first stage after finishing a base defense wave, the game becomes something much more.

## Action Commando
Action Commando is a Town of Machine spinoff focused entirely on combat. Hub-based world design, inventory management and most of the character interactions have been removed / de-prioritized in favour of fast-paced combat where your only concern is what's trying to kill you at a given moment. While it lacks the depth of Town of Machine, it works really well as a coffee break, action-packed, top-down shoot'em up. Unlike in its predecessor you don't have to worry about inventory space and quests - just go forward and blow things up… and it kind of works. The game is pretty short and unfortunately set almost entirely underground which makes the levels blend together but it's not that big of a deal considering its lenght. Give it a try if you ever feel like mowing down monsters for a few hours.

A well-crafted, action-focused twin stick shooter with a good dose of humour. It's a spin-off of Town of Machine that's set in the same universe. While it uses many of the same assets as ToM, it's more action-orientated and simpler to play.
Made by single person, its production values are excellent - gameplay, graphics, sound: all are top-notch.
It's worth playing Town of Machine before this, but not wholly necessary.

At first I wasn't sure but once I started playing this game it was hard to put down. Definitely one to play with friends. It's hilarious, technical, and lends itself to a lot of variety so very replayable. If you like Alien, co-op or vs fighting, and you have a good sense of humor, consider picking this game up.
