Wally and the FANTASTIC PREDATORS

Wally and the FANTASTIC PREDATORS

This game is honestly a ton of fun, very replayable, and as time goes on Boon keeps delivering new reasons to stop in an play it for another long while.

This is one of the few rogue-likes I’ve played where the focus was definitely on the fun, not necessarily the intense planning and stat focus that I’m used to, though that isn’t to say it’s easy! The charm and humor may fool you, but this is definitely the Dark Souls of Nintendo games. (Am I a journalist now?)

The many game-modes, weapons, and options make this one of the most impressive solo-projects I’ve seen. The game does feel a bit rough in some areas, needing a bit more content and polish, but that’s hardly a negative considering the amount of work a single person has poured into this game, and continues to do so.

Wally and the Fantastic Predators has enough potential to eventually stand shoulder to shoulder with games like Gungeon and maybe even Isaac, but it falls short because of technical issues.

Thematically the game is really cute and manages to be funny and tongue-in-cheek in a very charming way, on top of that the game-play seems pretty well designed in the time I’ve played. The overall message is very positive and the game is surprisingly light-hearted for its difficulty. Speaking of which the difficulty options and accessibility options in this game are really good, allowing for a range of difficulties and playstyles.

Bacon Rebellion

Bacon Rebellion

Its worth its price of $4 but it doesn’t try to be worth anything more than that. No extra gamemodes, no multiplayer, no customization options to change gameplay, and no support for modding. This game was supposedly put on the backburner for 7 years and it was just dropped onto Steam with no marketing. Its likely that the developer just wanted this out of development limbo. Adding the fact that there’s only been two small updates in the past few months, its clear that there’s no more plans to add anything to this game any further.

Christmas Rampage

TL:DR

Christmas Rampage is not worth buying for $5; it can beaten within an hour, it has optimization issues, the resolution cannot be changed at all, and the navigation in some worlds is too perplexing. Skip this game.

What The Game Is About

CPU Invaders is a simple game about you, a blue CPU Defender, holding off multiple types of CPU Invaders. It is a type of “shoot-em-up” style of games that are a great way to spend time if you’re bored or something to do while you’re waiting for your friends.

Gameplay

You run around using WASD and shoot using LMB. There is no support for multiplayer, sadly, because the game would be more fun to play if you could play with friends. It does have achievements, but not insane easter egg achievements, just basic achievements like beating level 1 or 7 and killing 300 CPU Invaders. When you play it, it has a transparent background, allowing you to see behind the game, which is cool.

A Shoot’em up game that takes place on a desktop. The title defines this game nicely, along with the character we play as. Our only goal is to destroy the invaders that spawn on the screen, and we can simply do so with the mouse key, and maneuver with the WASD keys. I find the objective of the game too simplistic though. Even with the levels being harder than the previous, it still doesn’t show much evolution in terms of our character’s ability. The overall difficulty is also average: Spray’n pray will get you through most of the levels but the last one.

This game is awesome! No boring moments; to pay the rent you need to keep it moving! & The art style is really cool!

Wow. Really fun and visually stunning for a 5 dollar game. Killer pixel art, but with so much on screen its a little tough to find the enemy’s in the chaos. A simple outline of the enemy’s would help. Otherwise this game rocks, and is well worth the asking price. This was made by one guy? Hell I have played TS games that were made by a huge team of programmers and were not nearly as fun, one guy made this? Good job man.

HyperParasite

HyperParasite

Been following this game since it was first showcased at Milan Games Week back in 2018. All I can say is…WOW. The game was very different back then, now it feels and play really smooth and polished for an Early Access game. I’m a sucker for everything 80s, and this game has it all: tons of cameos/references/quotes from 80s movies, cartoons and games, a very cool synthwave OST and a great atmosphere.

It can be HARD at the beginning, but believe me, give it some time and you will unlock new stuff, characters, weapons, etc., and it will be amazing. Every run feels different, it’s incredible how much stuff there’s to it. You won’t regret it.

Quite possibly the best modern rogue-lite on steam

Hyperparasite’s formula for designing a richly crafted love letter to the 80s certainly doesn’t go unnoticed. The entire game itself is filled with cheeky references to 80s pop culture. From the outset, the combat & gameplay loop is what you should expect from a well designed twin stick rogue-lite; tight, fluid controls, procedurally generated level pathways & randomized upgrades that are never the same during your next play thorough. Permadeath is a factor that shouldn’t put you off as the gameplay loop is designed to keep you replaying the core concept until you completely finish it. From start to finish the complete experience should take you around 2-3 hours, providing you have all the sub-levels unlocked. Which i might add are fully accessible in the wrong millennium update.

Pop’s

Pop’s

‘Pop’s’ is a fun little arcade stall style shooter in which you have to shoot various toys with a colour corresponding ball. Set in a funfair style setting the graphics are bright and colourful keeping with the fun theme. The good news is the gameplay is also fun and very simple to get into (despite the long, drawn-out tutorial). Provided you are going to play this at a VR party with friends or you just enjoy chasing your own score you will get your money’s worth there, but in truth, there really isn’t a lot of content. Sure, its not original and you don’t get a lot for your money, but its a bit of fun for a small price and that is good enough for me.

Vectorium

Vectorium

While Vectorium is a quality arena shooter, it all feels a bit too standard. It checks all the right boxes, except the ‘innovation’ one. I would also say that if you plan on playing with a keyboard and mouse, it feels more like an excercise in memorizing the order of buttons to press. Something more akin to DDR or something. It’s hard to explain.

Pros:

+The crisp artwork and interface is nice

+The price is fair

Cons:

-There is nothing new here; this has all been done before
