Wow. Really fun and visually stunning for a 5 dollar game. Killer pixel art, but with so much on screen its a little tough to find the enemy’s in the chaos. A simple outline of the enemy’s would help. Otherwise this game rocks, and is well worth the asking price. This was made by one guy? Hell I have played TS games that were made by a huge team of programmers and were not nearly as fun, one guy made this? Good job man.

POSTAL
I Regret Nothing
POSTAL is one of those games, even after all these years, you can still pick it up and truly appreciate for what it is and how it affected the view of video games back in 1997. Unlike it’s sequel POSTAL 2, this game is extremely dark, (in which HATRED tried to do and then some, but personally found it to try too hard.) Postal is an isometric top-down shooter where your goal is to kill all enemies (or 90% of them) in the map and move onto the next area. Due to what a lot of people believed, you don’t actually have to kill innocent people! Though what’s the fun in that? … It’s not, it’s painful trying to complete the game without killing any innocent people.

Having played this games series to completion (well, almost: what, you mean to tell me that you actually got all the way through Postal 3?!), I feel that reviewing them all is necessary. This game, however, is going to be difficult to review. It’s not that it’s a badly made game or that I hate it (on the contrary). The problem is that it’s such a disturbing game that I may end up on a watchlist for recommending it. Whatever! Here it goes.
The first installment of the Postal series is of humble origins, provided that your definition of “humble origins” involves being banned in 14 countries, being blacklisted by most major retailers and being mentioned by Senator Joe Lieberman to the Senate as one of the “three worst things in American society” (the other two being Marilyn Manson and Calvin Klein underwear ads). Postal is a game about a guy (the Postal Dude) being bombarded with demonic mental images and voices convincing him to murder society as a whole. Each level is a neighborhood, truckstop, air force base, shopping mart, etc. of innocent people and hostile people (“hostile” being cops, government agents, well-armed vigilantes and other people who are merely trying to stop a madman with weapons from murdering everybody). You are instructed to kill at least 80-90% of the hostile people before progressing to the next level. Unlike the succeeding two games, the only morality choice you’re really given is whether you want to kill only the people trying to kill you or kill everybody.

Enemy Remains
Yelp Rating: 4/5
Graphics: When starting off in the first level, you are greeted with a wonderful, yet gore-filled map with calm, yet unsettling tones. When making your way through the maps, you will be greeted with much more colors that really bring the eerie feeling of the game. As you adventure throughout the map, you will come across other gore scenes, such as animal intestines and mobs.
Gameplay: The concept behind the game is simple. Shooter game, figuring what the hell happened, defeating hostile mobs, along with bosses, which vary if difficulty as you progress. You come across crates filled with loot, traps, explosives, and much more! There are a variety of weapons to use, especially figuring out the best combo for bosses and mob gang-ups.

Enemy remains is your classic top down shooter with various power-ups and weapons found through the game to use at your disposal. It has various traps and enemies which can have extremely variations of attack. The bosses are challenging but not super difficult where it makes you want to quit the game. The mechanical machine you ride in could use some type of attack or two but man can it run stuff over! If you like making monsters suffer this is your game! I have yet to try the multiplayer aspect so this review will be edited.

Gospel of Abaddon
IN A WORD: MAYBE
IN A NUTSHELL:
WHAT TO EXPECT: More Roguelite than Roguelike. Difficult, very challenging. Top-down, action shooter. Plain 2D maps. Basic visuals and sound. Rudimentary gameplay. Limited, unvaried content. Designed for replayability. God and drug references themes. Enjoyable in short bursts. Single-player only.
ACHIEVEMENTS: VARIED. MOSTLY ORGANIC. SOME SKILL-BASED.
STATUS: JUST RELEASED.
WHO FOR/WHEN TO BUY: Only if you know what you are getting. I would wait for a good sale.

The game takes place during WWII and starts with an intro, showing us our main protagonist who was an american pastor. He explains us how they forced him to join the army and how one day, after discovering that “they” were hiding drugs,he decided to try them on himself. This resulted in hearing the God’s voice.God told him to kill everybody…although our protagonist wasn’t so sure about that, then God offered him the ultimate gift to convince him….The “Wh*re of Babylon”!Who could have resisted on that?

Good Robot
I still haven’t finished the game but my opinion is likely not going to change. And yes, I will continue playing this on the foreseeable future.
Good Robot presents itself as a Rogue-like, and indeed it is. But it’s quite unique when compared to most self proclaimed rogue-likes. It’s extremely arcadey! You gain nothing with each session except experience, unlike other games that give you extra characters, different perks, unlock upgrades to be obtained in the game etc. This game doesn’t want you to keep playing under these pretexts, it wants you to keep playing because it’s a tempting challenge. I always died with the impression that I could beat that if I were more careful. You know, the kind of difficult people enjoy and take it as a challenge and makes you want to try again. This is the replay mechanism on good robot. You can see this mechanism in effect on strangely unrelated games like Dark Souls and Flappy Birds. I can’t believe I just put those two games in the same category.

Alright, so as roguelites go, this one is a little bit short. A lot of stuff is done right, but the flaws really stand out in this game.
Starting with the positive, the production values and the feel of the game are quite well done. The weapons are satisfying to use and the simple art style works very well for the kind of game that is is. At its best, gameplay is frenetic and you are heavily punished even for slight slip ups (and heavily rewarded if you keep on top of positioning the enemies). Also, the game has hats in it.

One Shell Straight to Hell
(Review was updated on Dec 2021) I’ve spent many hours alpha-testing this game and decided to buy it on release day. Here are my thoughts so far, a list of positive and negative elements:
The good stuff:
-
Uniquely witty main character.
-
Good variety of unlockable skills and lootable guns, be it primaries or secondaries.
-
The setting: a terribly haunted mansion property set in the 1910’s - 1920’s.
-
The Padre’s voice actor probably smoked 10 cigars and drank too much whiskey. Fantastic.

One Shell Straight to Hell
There’s a brand-new Roguelike indie title on the streets; One Shell Straight to Hell. One Shell Straight to Hell lets the player experience the best of two worlds with its well-put-together Roguelike dungeon-crawling gameplay with a touch of base defense elements mixed in.
At first glance, the game seems to be simple enough with its Procedural Generation World. But as you cross the first stage after finishing a base defense wave, the game becomes something much more.

This game is great for some quick matches against your friends on the couch. That is definitively how I prefer it. However, in corona times you can still get your game on with the steam remote play =) Have fun blowing up your friends and family ;)
