Lazarus Trials: Trial 101
Narrative
You wake up and immediately feel something is wrong. You don’t know where you are or how you got here. The more you try to piece things together, the more you can’t remember. You can’t seem to move your head, but you glance down and see a body that isn’t your own. Suddenly a voice begins to speak. It has run countless experiments, and its latest subject is you. You don’t remember signing up for anything like this! But before you say a word, you realize, maybe the voice has answers to the millions of questions running through your mind. So you decide to play along, but will you survive the ordeal that lies ahead?
Motivation
Compared to books, many modern games are like War and Peace or Finnegans wake; incredibly rich masterpieces but hardly the best starting place for someone learning to read. “Lazarus Trials” is a series of games designed to teach game literacy, the art/skill of being able to consume the media form of video games. It’s the perfect starting point for someone looking to get into gaming as a hobby, but has been incredibly overwhelmed by everything out on the market.
Gameplay
Trial 101 aims to teach:
-
Navigation through a 3D space using mouse/keyboard or gamepad controller.
-
Coordination between moving and looking around.
-
Advanced movement (i.e jumping) by requiring more than one key/button press at a time.
-
-
The basics of puzzle solving in games
-
Identifying the target/objective of the puzzle
-
Distinguish between game objects and environment. What can be interacted with and what can’t?
-
Game logic and “out of the box thinking”
-
-
Testing limits of controls
- Using the basic controls/mechanics explained to experiment and find different movement capabilities.
-
Comprehension of narrative and instruction through dialog
-
Understanding game hints and instructions through dialog
-
Understanding underlying narrative through dialog
-
Will you be able to survive the Lazarus Trials?
Really?
Prove it.
TIPS
-
Use the settings menu to customize aspects of the game itself, use the detect optimal settings button to quickly get a configuration that would work for you. You will need to manually adjust the resolution to your screen size. 1920 x 1080 at fullscreen typically works for most people.
-
Practice, Practice, Practice. Just like with reading the more you do of it the better you get at it. Perseverance is key!
-
Always try new things! Never be afraid to try something out to see if it works. You may discover some interesting abilities/quirks.

Sophie’s Safecracking Simulator
Once I saw who was developing this game, I knew it would be a insta-buy on day one of release.
For a very cheap price, you get a very detailed simulator that shows you how the locking mechanisms for most modern safes work, then teaches you how to break them. I highly recommend it for all of those who are interested in locksports and/or detailed simulator games.
Now if only someone out there could make a lockpicking game with the same attention to detail that this developer has put into this simulator, that would be a day one buy from me!

As a lock picking hobbyist I figured why not, and gave this sim a shot. I wasn’t disappointed. The techniques used, the way the safe is manipulated, and the explanations given in the tutorial all translate well to what you could expect on a real safe. Not to mention for the price point, this game is well worth it for those like me that enjoy lock manipulation, or those that even just enjoy trying to solve a challenge.

Active Neurons 2
So you survived your first foray into space cube puzzles, but you want to go even farther? Grab your flash of space milk and fire up those brian cells, because this time, we’re searching far and wide for our remaining neurons. Search Windmills, cannons, choo-choos, speakboxes, and adult candies while going up against new challenges. Spoiler alert:
! The final boss is the world wide web.
The Good:
- Just like the first game, it actually offers a decent amount of challenge.
– Real player with 6.4 hrs in game
I love sliding games and active neurons is among my favorites with its excellent presentation, cool mechanics and relaxing gameplay, even if it’s on the short and easy side and has some timing elements. the sequel looked similar enough and I was really looking forward to it, didn’t even consider the possibility of it ending up as a disappointment, but sadly that’s what happened.

modes
2x2 = 2^(2*2)22 = 64 possible combinations
4x4 = 2^(4*4)44 = 1,048,576 possible combinations
8x8 = 2^(8*8)88 = over 1,180,000,000,000,000,000,000 possible combinations

My Simple Puzzle
Interesting game.
I especially liked:
- Ability to create your own collection of images.
Added photos from summer vacation. I remembered a time well spent.
- Ability to set any number of pieces into which the image will be split.
For rest, you can set a small amount: relieves fatigue, allows you to escape from worries.
And if you want to test your strength, then you can install a large number (several hundred or thousands).
- Autosave.
I was doing the puzzle. I urgently needed a distraction. Closed the game. When I was free, I started the game, clicked on the “Continue” button and continued from the point where I left off (very convenient).
