Xenonauts

Xenonauts

More faithful than the modern XCOM games. You can build multiple bases to your own style and needs! Multiple drop ships, not a single one and an anthill for you to save the world with. Troops are expendable like they should be! Yay!

Eagerly awaiting the sequel, and hopefully eventual Terror From the Deep spiritual successor.

Only thing letting it down is lack of final polish - quicksave works, quickload doesn’t for some reason, and there’s a few minor glitches like the camera being stuck panning in a direction after an alien turn which requires a quick reload to fix, etc. Sometimes the AI acts a little omnipotent, such as sitting in a corner in a building never moving until the moment you get close enough for it to take a fair shot at your soldiers and then dip back into cover again, even though it shouldn’t have known you were there.

Good: Mostly faithful recreation of XCOM UFO Defense but with significantly better controls and a cool Cold War setting. No class restrictions like Firaxis XCOM and fewer restrictions in general. You make your own classes. Four gun and explosive tiers.

Nice, detailed lore with the Xenopaedia. Great music overall. Overall good weapon design, with humans getting their own distinctly designed plasma weapons. Sound effects are fantastic, especially for high level weapons and explosions. They even have different sounds for the weapon reloads.

GhostControl Inc.

GhostControl Inc.

This review need updating. The game has been updated and polished even further. Will update when I get around to playing it again.

In short:

Ghostcontrol Inc. is a solid and fun turn-based strategy ghost hunting simulator with very good humor.

Ghostcontrol Inc. style and feel is that of a casual and fun game (but not easy :) ). The graphical style, sounds and music are similar to Theme Hospital. Gameplay is sufficiently deep for a turn based game and incorporates a simple 2 AP system which makes the game flow nicely. Menus and action are understandable and there is enough amount of micromanaging to have variety. The story of the game is humorous and well written.

Ghost Control Inc seemingly has everything going for it. It’s a game where you essentially play team manager for Ghosbusters! And it has a nearly-perfect blend of tactics and management gameplay! What could possibly be more fun?

Unfortunately, the game is marred by several issues.

Firstly, the art direction is uneven at best. Most of the ghosts have very uninspired designs that won’t stick in your mind like those of other franchises involving catching ghosts. Several of the ghosts are just recolors or slight redesigns of the lower level ghosts you fight early in the game, so they’re both boring to look at and repetitive. This also makes it slightly harder to tell what you’re figthing at times.

What a fun game that was! I mean I hope people don’t mis-underestimate me but I actually enjoyed it almost better than FTL! FTL IS STILL A BETTER GAME THOUGH!

Its also similar to roll for the galaxy! You roll dice for your crew and for threats. If a certain number comes up, you might be attacked, maybe something wont work you can also roll for crew duties IE: commanders for re rolling all dice or picking one die to be a task or charge shields, attack or use the stasis beam!

This is a great game! Worth the money worth the time!!!

Hey I thought I would support a fellow indie developer and pick up this game. Its a lot of fun, I enjoy the strategy and I am looking forward to its updates. My only comment would be to make it easier to unlock some of the other ship types, i’m excited to try some new ships, but it seems i have to unlock 10 levels first? In any case, a great game, solid effort, keep up the good work from your friends and NeuroJump!

Endhall

Endhall

Endhall’s description - a ‘byte-sized roguelike’ - encompasses exactly what this game is.

It easily serves as a stepping stone for those unfamiliar with the genre, whilst still being enjoyable for those who are well-versed in it. The learning curve is not steep, but the game does a fine job of making you reflect on what you could have done better. It took me about 40 or so minutes to beat the game, which is completely fair given the price. A run consists of beating 9 stages, and a successful run could end up being about 15 or so minutes.

Endhall is a turn based rogue like puzzle, with retro graphics and atmospheric chiptune inspired music.

The game in itself is quite simple (but there is no help, so I will describe it here): you play a robot fighting against other robots, you have 8 “health points” (labelled “energy meter”) and 4 “action points” (labelled “CPUs”). The action points are used to perform actions (like attacking, moving, etc.), and refill every turn; while health points decrease by various amounts when hit, or by one after the end of every turn (to prevent the player from camping) and are replenished by one for every ennemy death.

IN A WORD: MAYBE

IN A NUTSHELL:

WHAT TO EXPECT: WW2 themed turn-based wargame. ‘Beer and pretzel’ play style. Attritional combat model. Chess-like battles. Unit class levelling and combat abilities. Tactical combat states. Tiny hex-grid maps. Good-looking combat models. No core force. Dynamically purchased order of battle. Some annoying bugs. GUI obfuscated game rules/mechanics. Incomplete scenario implementation. Active dev. Single-player only.

ACHIEVEMENTS: NONE.

Mind Over Mushroom

Mind Over Mushroom

This is a very fun turn-based strategy game. The battles have enough difficulty to be frustratingly fun, but not so difficult that I want to quit the game forever. There is a lot of strategy involved. The character variety adds to the mechanics, as a well as the terrain. The style of the game is also aesthetically pleasing. After having it on my wishlist for several months, I’m glad I actually bought it.

Recon Control

Recon Control

Tactical Step-by-step shooter.  The main feature, which is the whole essence of the game, is 2D graphic - reminds me my childhood, those games, flashbacks))

So - here are big variety. Maps, missions (25 missions, 3 campaigns), tasks, developers did a really good job. Moreover, there are many types of guns, armor, equipment, different items. It is a very important point which I figure out while playing any game, coz when developers of each game don’t respect the player, their users: they create only 1-3 guns using which u have to spend all time passing the game - so it becomes rlly boring ;( But, in “Recon Control” it’s +REP ofc☆

Real player with 18.9 hrs in game

This is great tactical gem.

Familiar gameplay of a tactical turn based combat with standard classes (sniper, heavy, shotgun, rifle), but everything is done just right. Visuals, variety, enemies, abilities, items - all is very good. Although the game is not long, this is a ton of fun as a more simple but very polished approach while you are waiting for a big title.

Fantasy General

FG2

Fantasy Wars + Elvish Legacy

If you liked those, you’ll like this. (Esp the o.g.)

A little rough around a few edges, but up until August the devs were freely communicating with the community, and I’m holding out hope they haven’t gone anywhere. I really enjoy the aesthetic and ambient sounds, (I’m a sucker for animated falling leaves).

The title is unforgiving, happening across a hidden enemy may well result in a squad wipe. Learning controls may require some trial and error also, since there isn’t a manual that I’ve seen.

Real player with 15.9 hrs in game

Fun game. Definitely reminds me of the old SSI tactical strategy games, especially the original Fantasy General.

A bit rough around the edges now but shows good promise. If you’re a turn-base strategy junkie, it’s worth putting down the money now and play along in its EA form and watch how it develops.

If you’re not a hard core turn-base player and wants something more polished/finished, then I recommend putting this game on your Wishlist or follow it and see how it turns out in a few months.

Slaves of Magic prelude

Slaves of Magic prelude

To sum up:

1) Fluent flow: intuitive & detailed user interface, streamlined gameplay, clever AI,

2) Satisfying tactics: many tactical decisions to make (split up, sneak through buildings, flanking etc.),

3) Neat RPG elements: the different character skills leads to cool combos

4) A great indie team: the developers are really open to community feedback & completely remastered the in game combat.

Although it is just a DEMO, it is clear at this stage that the game has limitless options for further content

Real player with 4.6 hrs in game

I really like the remastered combat system. It reminds me to the board game Eclipse Second Dawn for the Galaxy: first getting the movements all done, and then dealing with the action phase is a great mechanism!

The basics of the game are working well, and I’m really looking forward that state of the game, when many unique character skills will be available. And I’m looking forward when it will contain the campaign map as well, not just this tactical combat episode, that is currently in the DEMO.
