Alpha One

Alpha One

In Alpha One you awaken from bio-stasis alone in an uncharted region of the galaxy. Aboard the United Colony Ship Alpha, you were part of an interstellar expedition gone wrong. To survive it was necessary to deploy the colony ship into station mode and outfit a space capsule with the ability to collect resources. After discovering a strange, crystalline substance, it allowed you to create an experimental jump drive that you hope one day can get you home to Earth.

With your limited jump-drive capabilities, you explore the region and find out there are many types of resources with the potential to build and unlock new technologies. However, you quickly learn you have an adversary. You meet an intelligent life-form pursuing those same resources and they see your very existence as a threat!

Find a way to control these systems, defend them, harvest and use them to research technology. It’s a race for you to defeat the enemy or stay alive until you can find a way home.

What you do in Alpha One:

GATHER RESOURCES

  • Classic Newtonian physics; thrust in one direction, spin your capsule to angle your trajectory

  • Harvest resources with your space capsule

  • Use resources to build, repair and research

SPACE COMBAT

  • Compete for resources in dogfights with hostile NPC ships (and escape if you have to!)

EXPAND TERRITORIES

  • Each star system is a level that you have to clear in order to claim and deploy automated outposts (your opponent will do the same)

  • Outposts will collect resources from the system they inhabit

DEFEND OUTPOSTS

  • Defend your outposts, with your ship or leave it up to automated Gunship Defenders

  • Build and strategically deploy Gunships Defenders on the map to protect your economy

RESOURCES

  • Strategically expand by deploying outposts to systems with resources that counter your opponent!

  • Use each resource for its own line of weapons and defense

COUNTER THE ENEMY

  • Research tech to defend the enemy’s weapons

  • Create weapons that your opponent can’t defend!

ATTACK ENEMY TERRITORIES

  • Attack Enemy outposts to hurt their economy and hinder their ability to make repairs, build and research tech

MAPS

  • Play a progression of maps that get progressively harder

  • Includes a map editor to make your own levels

  • or generate your own random map/settings for a custom randomized experience

Отличная реал-тайм стратегия, хотя на самом деле сложно дать точный жанр, тут смесь многих, и это круто.

Рисовка и движения персонажей просто огонь, это и привлекло к покуке, и не пожалел :D

I somehow expected more. The details to be higher or some base building or solder selection.

now I know this is early access and for a game that only ask for this price, it is asking too much. Yet I have been spoiled by X-com and other game of that standard.

I love that it is in real time. And I see great potential for the game. But I am not ready to commit yet. And I feel that if you are unfamiliar to playing beta games you are properly going spoil this game for yourself if you play it this early.

NEXT JUMP: Shmup Tactics

NEXT JUMP: Shmup Tactics

Well now, it’s time to review yet another roguelike… or is it a turn-based strategy game? Bullet-hell? Yep, Next Jump: Shmup Tactics is all three of these things at once. These genres seem like they absolutely should not go together… it sounds totally nonsensical. But not only is the combination viable, but it works out really well here.

In this game, your overall goal is to reach the Dragon Mothership and defeat it, because apparently they stole your space beer (???) and ran off with it. Like any good shmup, this means a long battle through about a kersquillion enemy ships on your way to fight the boss at the end. As this game is part roguelike, everything is procedural, so you’ll be getting a very different experience every time.

This is a fantastic game if you like small-scale turn-based tactical battles in space. The core gameplay is turn-based shoot ‘em up with simplified FTL-like sector jumping in between the skirmishes. It’s not really much like FTL except superficially. It’s a great game nonetheless!

First, the downsides. It’s a relatively short game. It’s very replayable but even if you like it, you probably won’t play for many tens of hours. It’s also cheap though.

The battle map is small and doesn’t contain much except various enemies. Not realy a downside in my opinion, just a game design choice. Think of the map as a chess board.

TLDR: Upon closer inspection is more like a collection of minigames merged together into an experience that lacks cohesion in terms of pacing and difficulty, and in my case, failed to entertain, did not engage my in any way and left me a bit frustrated and underwhelmed

Review: You have an overland map… red planes show up… you click in their direction and intercept them. You get a shootemup instance sometimes it is way too hard. The game has you press a bunch of keyboard shortcuts to switch power from your engine to your weapons or shields FTL-style but this time around it is the janky keyboard version, and on a shootemup with no pause it is not as great as it sounds. Also the game tells you to retreat if you are losing which is also done by shortcuts… and chances are you will wanna wittle down ennemies a bit and flee before coming back. Upgrades and menus seemed well explained enough in tooltips but even though I bought escort ships they werent with me to fight… must have done something wrong. Instead of getting score you get prestige points and morale points which act as your cash, and basically your lives if morale is too low you lose the game. There are also instances where waves of ennemies come and you gotta spawn turrets tower defense style. So aside from all the keyboard shortcuts to remember the strenght of ennemies can be hard to assess at a glance, the game feels really slow but you die very fast and I think in the end the hardest part of the game is deciding which event to go adress which ones to retreat from, all in the hope of keeping your morale points afloat. Maybe there is a good game in there for someone who really enjoys all these minigames and genres and wants to multitask across them but in my case it was not my cup of tea. People compare this game to a flash game… or a collection of flash game, and there is some truth to it but in its defense I felt the game just had a tiny edge more visual polish and fleshened out interface to elevate it, ever so slightly above those… I stopped playing after my third space battle but people who keep playing say the game runs out of content and just throws the same stuff at you over and over again

Centauri Sector is the debut game release from indie developer LW Games. It’s a sci-fi space combat game with most of the action taking place as a top down 2D shooter, but there a few unique twists that set this game apart from others. This has the potential to be a great game, but in its current state it also has the potential to be quite frustrating.

Centauri Sector takes place in the far future where humanity has expanded into space and engaged in galactic civil war. One faction, fearing annihilation, flees to the far end of space to settle in the Centauri sector. After decades of peace, unknown pirates appear in the Centauri sector, disrupting trade and attacking planets. Your job is to defeat the pirate threat and save the day.

Control Craft 3

Control Craft 3

Great little RTS in the same mode as Mushroom Wars, Galcon etc. And a superb follow-up to Control Craft 2.

There’s been quite a few negative reviews - so I’m writing this one on the basis of the latest patch. A new dev has taken ownership, and has been very active:

  • 24 new maps (from CC2 - but they play very different in this game, so even if you breeze through CC2, you’ll find this a much harder task to complete)

  • new equipment (when I can upgrade, I suspect it will make the 24 new maps a bit easier going)

Real player with 28.4 hrs in game

Control Craft 3 is a mobile app that’s been dumped on Steam as a lazy cash grab. It’s the third in a series of ultra simple “numbers” game where you drag your soldiers into towers and eventually get more numbers than the enemy and swarm their towers. The interface is ultra minimalistic. The game is a ripoff of many much older games like Galcom, and the gameplay is unchanged.

This is a PC port of an Apple app store game with banner ads and everything. In game advertising is a complete insult to gamers everywhere. There’s no fullscreen and you can play the game for free on the web, but without the ads. How can I recommend paying for this when it’s free on the web?

Special Tactics

Special Tactics

It’s a great game! Too bad the player base is 0 at this point so if you want to buy it for the multiplayer, you need to have some friends to play it with or you can add me.

However, the single player is awesome! The campaign has a lot of variety and teaches you everything you need to know. It shows of the maps very well. After completing the campaign there is not much left to do. Only thing you could do is survival mode, but that gets boring after a few games

Special Tactics Online is a tactical/ strategy shooter with addictive gameplay.

This game now in Early Access, but in this stage its also can keep your mind for couple hours.

The gameplay is turn based you sent orders for your squad what contain a four member, after that when you end own turn your opponent do same. In a multiplayer the players have 50 second in each turn, in other modes time is not limited. In a game you can found five different classes, all has different features. You also can use in every round one type of booster (from four available) and you can use three different grenades types. At the moment game has 7 maps, but this amount will be grow up in the future. Also you can change a weapons of your squad members. You can buy weapons, on the store, what you can earn playing, survival mode, and multiplayer.

Tactical Combat Department

Tactical Combat Department

Definitely recommend this game. As many have said, it takes inspiration from games like SWAT, Doorkickers and Xcom. What I find most unique is the shooting system that doesn’t work on a % chance based on stats (like most turn based games). Instead it randomises where the bullets go based on the weapon and experience of the shooter. Think doorkickers in this aspect, meaning you may hit something between you and the target, or even hit something behind them. The unique part comes in this being a turn based game using that system. I personally haven’t seen something like that before.

Real player with 9.7 hrs in game

Good game! It’s an innovative tactical game with Swat theme in turn based design. You can work with 5 members in your team. In this game is interesting weapon fire system. It’s based on skills of your member and accuracy of weapons. But projectiles fly from weapons, you can hit other civilians or your team member. This is good!

Price is very friendly and fair! Recommended!

If you like Doorkickers and you want to play another Doorkicker’s game, play Doorkickers. If you want to play xcom or big turn based strategy with base building play Xcom, Xenonauts etc. But if you want to play something new and interesting, play this small but interesting game.

Sink Again

Sink Again

If you want light-weight pirate-y fare with a primitive economic model coupled with a bunch of turn-based mini dungeon crawls and disconnected scenarios that have you starting from scratch after each mission, then this game is for you!

If you’re not looking for all that, you might still get your money’s worth out of the game. I’ve only completed a few of the scenarios and yet there is enough meat here that I’ve got over 20 hours in, and the rewards for each scenario are interesting enough that I want to see what the next batch will add to my arsenal.

Real player with 52.6 hrs in game

Nice little game. Not very complicated as turn-based / strategy game, and it tends toward grinding, but it manages to keep me busy and interested. Also, the silly slapstick jokes make me smile. If you ever wanted to play as a gorilla bashing pirates with an anchor…

The game comes with a good number of “scenarios”. Start a scenario, you get a (very) small ship and 2000 gp, and a selection of 3 to 5 pirates to hire in the nearby tavern. First hire is free, and is usually the one you pick as the captain of your crew - at start, anyway, you can change your captain later.
