Rogue State Revolution

Rogue State Revolution

Let me start by saying that this has the potential of being a great game, but this game is far from being ready for release. Consider this game an early access.

Here’re some warnings if you wanna purchase:

  • Update 1.2 introduces a lot of CTDs, every few turns.

  • Game mechanics is only partly there. For example, there’s still no building to help boost a province’s security score. Dev is also still working on mid-to-late game progression issues such as running out of imported resources.

  • Many QoL changes needed. Ffs let me look at my current exports every time my neighbor asks me to increase export!

Rogue State Revolution is a resource management game with a novel theme and deary indie production values, but falls into to the typical issue of initial hump of difficulty after which you are free to explore and express regardless of difficulty. (Mind I’m a bit sadistic with difficulty on these games.)

After setting up your economy and surviving the initial diplomatic/societal/environmental challenges the game throws at you, one slowly but surely is on top of the wave. This is where the game suffers from bad pacing and/or balancing. I found myself having way too many actions while not having enough favors and/or money. There are several stretches like this in the game and it seems the team tried to introduce mechanics into the game that one can sink extra resources into (civilians & space missions & casino), but all of these will be exhausted relatively quickly leaving you, again, just passing the turn waiting for something to happen.

Okay so I’ve only played this for 28 hours. I might review this again at 250 hours and start a class action against Gabe for wasting my time. As it stands now this is my cup of tea. I like Euro games with a flow. Normally with a few people to balance the strategising. This is a solo game but captures the dynamic feeling of adjusting on the fly.

EVERYTHING IS IN FRONT OF YOU

You can connect the dots from the start or you can make incredibly predictive strategic placements to backfill.

I am not interested in games that make me go look at an Excel spreadsheet just so I can play. This game has all of it inside the game in an amazing way. Its inbuilt instructional tab is an exemplary way to get people rolling with all the components they need to know. Come back to this after a few runs and fill the gaps you missed.

SUMMARY: A must-buy streamlined space-empire management game that’s easy to play, challenginghas surprising depth, and plenty of game modes. The kind of game you can play in an hour - or constantly.

Slipways is a game of space-empire management that is so streamlined it approaches being a puzzle game. Yes, there’s exploring, tech trees, and more. But boiled down to basics, you get both the click-of-idea thrill of a puzzle game AND the fun of managing your space empire. The combination is heady, fun - and challenging.

Franchise Hockey Manager 8

Franchise Hockey Manager 8

I like this game a lot. In my mind, this is the version of FHM that finally eclipses the last EHM that was released, even with the 1.5 beta enabled. It’s a bit buggy (ENABLE WEEKLY AUTO-SAVES!!!) and I’ve had a number of crashes, especially during the 2D sim portion of the game, but FHM 7 was patched up pretty quickly so I wouldn’t let that deter you from purchasing this game if you are a fan of the genre.

The budget system is a very nice addition, and I would imagine if you play in lower-revenue leagues, would present a different facet of gameplay in terms of balancing your scouting and development budgets. The new scouting reports are rife with information that can help you discern between a draft-day bust and a draft-day gem; I picked up a guy in the 7th round that had great mental stats that my scouts reported favorably on, and he ended up being rated as a 4.5 star potential guy after a season. Conversely, a guy I drafted in the second round has completely flopped down to a 2 star potential guy. Those are the kind of features that keep me immersed in a GM sim.

First let me stipulate that there is a lot to like about FHM8 and for someone who has supported the franchise since FHM1 but has more often than not been a harsh critic of past iterations, I am slowly being won over with this current effort. That’s not to say I believe it is a perfect 10, but for the first time I can clearly see that the evolution of this franchise is now showing the promise we all desire.

So to that end, if you are looking for a deep & engaging hockey fix, the plethora of gaming options provided by this game will be sure in some fashion to scratch that itch.

Dungeon Crusher Kiritan

Dungeon Crusher Kiritan

Cute little puzzle game with unique presentation.

Combat/movement is not exactly turn-based and more like tile-based - you move at the same time as your enemy 1 tile at a time and have to figure out when you will be in advantage to strike first.

Levels are handcrafted and not procedurally generated which is a big plus in my opinion.

There is also a level builder so looking forward to cool community-made maps.

Can recommend, especially with the launch discount.

Tohoku Kiritan is a VOICEROID character popular in Japan. VOICEROID is a type of text to speech software widely used in the Japanese Let’s Play scene. The Japanese way of doing things dictates that if you can substitute something with a cute anime girl you definitely should and it makes anything automatically better. Instead of using a webcam to record their faces most Japanese let’s players prefer to use anime characters as avatars and if they don’t possess cute girl voices, then the VOICEROID package provides an easy solution for both needs. The characters can serve as narrators or commentators to the provided gameplay thus putting more focus on the let’s player’s script writing ability rather than personal charisma, while also boosting creativity and providing greater freedom. As an added bonus most VOICEROID characters double as singing software on the VOCALOID or UTAU platform and therefore come with an already established fan base in the music scene. Of course this approach to let’s plays and streaming is largely unknown outside of Japan because of the language barrier. It’s also the reason why you may have stumbled on this game’s page without knowing what it’s about.

Kings0

Kings0

Kings0 - turn-based strategy in medieval genre, where you have to control your civilization in many aspects of the game.

The player will be able to visit different conditions, where the clan wars of the ancient Tribes are in full swing.

But not always everything can be solved by war, and therefore there are many mechanics for different styles of play.

This is where a new story begins that is different from other players.

The player has the right to do whatever comes to his mind with the game world.

Economy, pumping and construction, diplomacy, battles with lords, bandits and other civilizations, raids and robberies, achievements and easter eggs and much more.

For what it is, I would recommend this item. Everything is basic, but if you wanna run a game on a budget this is probably your better option. Only issues so far is that items are all tied to mouse click. So if you want to select something you are gonna move it as well. Only other thing is if you accidently make more maps, you can’t delete them. At least from what I have tried.

Galactic Civilizations III

NOTE: This is a review of the Final Release Candidate for the game, so it should apply to the released version.

Having been a long-time GC2 player, I eagerly signed up for the Founder’s Edition early-access over a year ago, and have followed the development of GC3 since then closely.

Let me tell you, getting a 4X game that incorporates all the features that hard-core strategy gamers want, while remaining both relevant and competitive, is really hard. As in, EXTREMELY hard. StarDock has done an excellent job with GC3. That’s not to say there still aren’t quibbles over the direction certain features have taken, but the reality is, that if you actually want to release a game, certain decisions are going to have to be taken, and you’re sure to piss off someone who wanted that feature and didn’t get it. But GC3 is a solid and entertaining game, if not a radically innovative one.

First of all it is critical to understand that the game is still in beta testing and therefore has some glitches. That said it has been pretty stable for me. (Four year old dell xps 8100 with 16gb and a 750 Ti video card). At present the plan seems to be to a go for a final release in May. There will be frequent patches before then and perhaps a beta 6 release (beta 5, with enormous additions, was released yesterday (Mar26). If you don’t like encountering bugs and reporting them to help the game, then wait for the release. Of critical importance remaining is tuning the AI to be smarter and more aggressive, imo.

Age of Fear: The Undead King GOLD

Age of Fear: The Undead King GOLD

Very well crafted game, especially for a small indie dev. While this has elements of a fantasy rpg (spellcasting units, magical items, fighting “monsters”, etc.) it is an excellent turn-based tactics game. Each of the factions that you can play feels unique and requires different tactics to win battles. The stories can be hit and miss, sometimes they are funny and compelling, other times just ho-hum, but that is par for the course in even AAA games from my experience. Possibly the most impressive thing of all is the prompt, thoughtful replies that the dev, Les, provides to questions and comments on the discussion board. I bought the whole works in their “Stay at Home” bundle for about $20 and I have had more fun with this game than many titles I have bought for 2-3X as much and I still have plenty of content left to explore. GREAT WORK!!! Support indie games–buy this now!

Never judge a book by its cover. I was very surprised when found this diamond among many of indie-games. Nice design is pleasing to the eyes, great music, very nice story line, which is voiced in the form of a fantasy story - all that are creates the atmosphere of the game, that very addictive and don’t let you go. Very nice Turn-based fights like Heroes or Kings Bounty series. You can proceed main story or play random fights to raise your hero and troops. HUGE amount of artifacts and items. Random encounters with rewards and traps. If you like hardcore you can choose “Death Seeker” difficulty, that gives a huge challenge to every experienced player. You even can choose option “Items for troops” and gear them with artefacts, that can break difficulty but also can give a new experience for playing.
