War of the Human Tanks - ALTeR

War of the Human Tanks - ALTeR

Welp, this certainly was a pleasent surprise. who would have thought that having a cute army of tank girls would be so interesting. The music is also interesting and I never tire of the battle/death cries of my, and my enemies, troops.

In the story there are acouple minutes of dialouge then a skirmish. For the battles, you must deploy a tank that acts like a king in chess, if she dies you lose (you can even have multiple). then you can make other units (if it is within the maps unit cap) like artillary (slow but long/wide range) shock tanks (fast/cheap/suicide explosion), assault tanks (medium speed, medium attack range) and much more. There is a fog of war, so you must proceed with care to find the enemy through scouting and prediction based on where you see them fire. You must build and upgrade your units by using supplies from winning or losing battles, so you may have to grind in the caverns or in free battles if you cannot preserve your troops.

This game… this goddarn game.

I’m not exactly sure where to start, so first off: this game is absolutely fantastic! I haven’t played EVERYTHING yet (still need to get Glitch-Heshiko and play the 2 or 3 optional Floor 90+ Battles), but still. The combination of Visual Novel and (Semi-)turn based Strategy game is beautiful and really well balanced, most if not almost all the tanks have their use and encourage players to figure out their favorite strategies and the Modules and combination of them just add to the fun (I still have fun giving my Peko-Peko a Tank Life ensurance and just making her explode, achieving absolutely nothing… I’m an Idiot.).

I loved the visuals, for a puzzle game, there sure was a lot! (over 30 levels!)

I’m not proud to say that I was stuck in the flower one, though. That one was pretty difficult to understand.

Sound Strategy game and brings me enjoyment. There are some bugs but hope they will be fixed soon. This game is worth the money.

I like the game, I am having fun playing it. I think it has one main problem, the production process could be better. Once you choose a city for production you no longer know how many production points are available. It would be nice to have production points shown so you can figure out how many of a particular item can be produced and also a max button would be good, just press max for an item and the max amount will be set to production of that city. And also since the last update the game is hard to start, have to press start three or four times before it will load. Get these fixed and I’m sure I will give it a thumbs up!

Archons of Doom

Archons of Doom

This can be a fast paced game, but if you are very crafty you can slow it down and make it yours, but you will have to have worked on your skill with your spells and any objects you may find.

You can think you are winning and then BAM you are lost! Very good challenging game play by the enemy Archons, they’ll trick you and surprise you with their antics!

A very very addictive game. You lose so you want to try again, you win so you want to better your score. Very repeat playable. I Beta tested this but there were times I loaded this up just to play it anyway as it is that good!

This is in the top 10 games of any turn-based game on the market. I is in my top 20 of all turn-based game I’ve played, ever. It takes a while to hone one’s skills, but that is the fun of the game. I was fortunate to beta-test the game and subsequently I learned a bunch about the mechanics. However, the finished and polished game is even more challenging, despite me knowing several of the maps.

We can also create our own Archons! Having played around 175 hours when this specific feature was added, I thought, “oh, I’ll mop up with my hand-designed Archon along with a hand-picked team. Nah. Wrong. This game is challenging. There is always another Archon with minions that counter your advantages.

Astral Masters

Astral Masters

One of the first online card games and still very unique and entertaining. Most important features:

  • Game is easy to understand and games don’t take long (though some might, which is also interesting)

  • No endless monetization - you buy it, you have everything.

  • You still have a feeling of progression as with levels you gain more points to increase the power of cards you can have in your deck.

  • Proper drafting experience where you actually have table where people draft from same pool and play against eachother.

This game is amazing!

I love the cards, the synergy, the deckbuilding possibilities. The artstyle is unique and amazing. The gameplay feels a bit off, but once you get used to it, you realize how the game has been built with the “less is more” philosophy in mind.

You have quick duels with pre-made decks. You have “League” mode, which is a tournament versus nine AI opponents, all of which are unique both visually and in gameplay style. Trust me, after the 3-4 league play, you will have distinct favourites and most-hated opponents.

Mind Over Mushroom

Mind Over Mushroom

This is a very fun turn-based strategy game. The battles have enough difficulty to be frustratingly fun, but not so difficult that I want to quit the game forever. There is a lot of strategy involved. The character variety adds to the mechanics, as a well as the terrain. The style of the game is also aesthetically pleasing. After having it on my wishlist for several months, I’m glad I actually bought it.

Liking it so far. Fun tactics game with a good amount of challenge. Graphics are simple but nice.

Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector

Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector

A nicely animated, turn-based tactics game between the Primaris-heavy Blood Angels and whichever Hive Fleet.

On the hardest difficulty setting it is reasonably challenging, particularly during the first half of the campaign…

Until you get to the final mission. I got wiped on my first run, which looked pretty bleak, only to discover that hitting the Defeat splash screen for the last mission got me the Steam achievement for completing the campaign.

So I won? You can win too. Wait for a sale unless you affirmatively want to support old school games with Warhammer 40K skins.

Best Warhammer 40,000 game released since the release of Dawn of War II. Highly recommended for turn based strategy fans or 40k fans (or both :)).

Combat Mission Black Sea

Combat Mission Black Sea

Combat Mission is a unique wargame that offers solid presentation while giving you granular detail to allow for interesting solutions to tactical problems. It fairly accurately allows you to simulate anything from Platoon to Battalion sized engagements at a high level of detail.

Presentation

While the animations and graphics do look a bit dated they get the job done. Where Combat Mission really excels at though is in the we-go mode that allows you to review a turn from multiple angles. This means that you can watch every engagement that is happening on the field and catch all of those cool moments. Where in other games if you aren’t looking then you’ll be left wondering “how did this tank get knocked out”.

Real player with 166.4 hrs in game

Conditional recommendation only.

Black Sea in certain cases seem to be more unstable than Shock Force 2. I think it’s important for newcomers or potential buyers to take note of the fact that while the game itself is much better than it looks in terms of gameplay and depth, in certain instances it can either wind up unstable (crashes) or become very problematic performance-wise. It’s a toss-up whether you’d have to tinker with the game, i.e. setting up antivirus exceptions, overriding application settings for your GPU, or some other tweaks to not only get the game running, but also get the game to a stable point where crashes are few and far between. A zero-crash experience may or may not be achievable, and the factors that play into said crashes can vary so wildly from system to system as far as I’ve both experienced and researched.
