RagTag

RagTag

A very addictive game that seems straightforward on the surface but opens up lots of strategies once you begin unlocking more pieces with skills and maps that require more planning. The artwork is all beautifully hand-drawn including the cutscenes with a nice coherent story that is narrated. The campaign is fun and knocking the enemy pieces off the board is very satisfying. Earning coins allows you to play more surgical levels in an arcade mode once the story is finished, which is a nice touch.

The Short of it: I’m having a lot of fun with RagTag. Casual, and yet surprisingly strategic/nuanced. Reminds me of playing marbles or curling, but with an apocalyptic setting and visually unique style. Addictive ;)

Reminds me of: If you liked Subbuteo, there’s a good chance you’ll like RagTag.

Active Neurons - Wonders Of The World

For a free puzzle game it was right in my wheelhouse! Not to hard but hard enough to be interesting. Could have done without the number-matching puzzles however. I may buy the DLC pack in a day or so.

Notebook Artillery

Notebook Artillery

Artillery games were one of the first games I played on a computer back in those antediluvian days of yore. This is a very nice successor to those games. The drawing style reminds me of a friend of mine’s style from high school and the blue-lined notebook paper is a really nice touch. Altogether very much worth the price.

This game is chill and a lot of fun. Especially dig the CM sticker in the main menu.

Colorful Colore

Colorful Colore

Colorful Colore is a nice little game to play, bright and colourful –as you’d expect– with a sweet, looping music track and a simple premise: match yourself to the tiles until you get to the end.

With 50 levels and increasing difficulty, it’s a couple of hours of fun! Definitely worth picking up and giving a go.

I enjoyed it a lot. Beautiful, crisp design and the colours chosen play off each other nicely. Easy controls for moving around.

Overall a pleasant little game!

Edit 10/5/21:

The developer released an extra 20 levels of content free, so CC now has 70 levels overall, plus two new achievements to keep you committed! The layout went a little strange, with levels 51-70 (the new content) slotting into the middle of the list, not the end. So in your menu it’s level 31-50, not the levels named 51-70.

colorful is a very fun color based indie puzzle game, with a looped song, but the song didn’t make me sick, point for whoever created the song (it’s not a 5 second loop, it’s more seconds) let’s talk about the level design, it’s very well done, of course there are some deals that you notice, like places you go there, you certainly die, but there are few, and it doesn’t hinder gameplay, graphics, they are very good, who made the game did a lot well pixel art, sound effects are not a triple A, but it’s good, that was my rewiew, if in doubt whether to buy or not, I recommend buying

Dungeon Deathball

Dungeon Deathball

Fun tactics game. It plays like into-the-breach-lite.

What this game does better than into the breach:

  • Every turn is more connected. Enemies can only move a small amount and won’t jump across the map and target something else unlike ITB.

  • Enemies can be manipulated easily; A big part of mastering the game involves manipulating enemies which is really fun

  • The orange monsters and goalies chases the ball

  • Cyan monsters that chases players.

  • You can stand in an enemies attack range to make them attack you the next turn

Real player with 102.7 hrs in game

Quick note: My actual playtime at the time of writing this is closer to 8-10 hours, as I’ve been playing it since the first public demo on itch, months before Early Access release.

Dungeon Deathball is a compact, turn-based strategy game, in part inspired by Into the Breach - it shows you exactly what enemies are going to do next turn and also allows you to turn them against each other by pushing them around. Unlike ItB, it’s a very easy game to pick up and play a quick round or two while on a short break.

8-Bit Attack

8-Bit Attack

8-Bit Attack: is a turn based tactics game where the player takes control of a hodgepodge of heroes from across multiple fantasy universes, and commands them as they defend the galaxy from evil. The evil lord Cthulhu and his minions of darkness threaten the destruction of all life as we know it, it is up to your strategy and wits to stop him. Battle through 4 types of levels before having to face the final boss himself, outfitting yourself with more gear and upgraded characters after each successful fight. Careful planning, coordinate attacks, and unique abilities are crucial in deciding whether your team emerges victorious, or falls victim to the invading monsters.

To be fair, I played the demo, so…

The menu is a little fidgity, when you move your cursor over a button the button will slightly enlarge and make a sound but sometimes it would repeatedly, quickly do that effect until I moved my mouse again. A lot of the buttons were hard to click, as if the hit-boxes for those buttons were not placed correctly. Music volume was super low even when set to maximum level.

The game is super hard, I played with four heroes (essentially 4P) but would repeatedly get beaten even at level 3 and 4 battles. It’s very difficult to win because so many monsters deal critical hits and/or multiple crit hits. As well as many of the common enemy tactics (orange side of die) are super strong even though they’re the most common tactic to be rolled. The last boss is impossible, because by the time you manage to defeat the champions, you’re all out of gas and the boss still had 75 HP (and deals at least 6 damage per turn; sometimes 6 to each player). The final boss will obliterate you in two turns.

The Bluecoats: North & South

The Bluecoats: North & South

The game is full of bugs, errors, AI should be improved a lot, keyboard commands are not always comfortable, the map is quite uncomfortable.

But it was my favorite game on the Amiga and that’s okay then

UPDATE

After 24 hours of gameplay the thing I find most annoying during the assault on the forts is the lack of footsteps in the enemies and the spawn behind them

Not bad, actually. I read the controls were not good originally but that an update fixed it, for me they were working with an American keyboard. The new 3D shooter fights are not bad but I miss the original jump’n’run environments.

I’m not a fan of the cartoon that this game is based on since I grew up in the 90s and loved the original series but despite that this game has a fun little story and the game play had some fun and unique strategy elements. I wouldn’t buy this game unless it was on sale since it was short and left me wanting more or at least for a campaign where you play as Decepticons, but maybe one day they will add DLC.

Worms

Worms

There are so many versions of Worms out there but the original is the one with–-

*Less cartoony graphics - pixel art here instead of smooth cartoons.

*Fewer items - you have a good selection of weapons, but the most exotic items are the exploding sheep and banana bomb - no Holy Hand Grenade, Carpet Bomb or jet pack in this version.

*Less polish - sound effects are fuzzy and the menus are a bit unwieldy.

*Worse AI - computer characters never use ropes, spam the teleport awkwardly, get stuck behind cover and never ever miss with ranged weapons.

i love womes and have been playing since i had it on my sega mega drive (similar to this version), while i have not played much of the newer ones - this version is simple at it’s best:

quick to start a game

no long loading times

fun short sharp matches

pleanty of weapons (not as much as later games of course)

pleanty of fun teams including teedies and waterloo (based on abba)

i really love this game - and i know some people might not like using the dosbox emulator - but for me (windows 7) works very nicely, with minimum errors
