Mayan Death Robots

Mayan Death Robots

This is one of those games that are very easy to pick up but very hard to put down again.

It combines a Worm’ish vibe with Tetris-like terrain building tactics, and even a little Lemmings (talking about giving a huge salute to the Classics).

The game just lives and breaths the creator’s love of gameplay, indie artwork and good ol' fun-to-play.

Even my ‘only AAA games are cool’ children are super fans.

Mayan Death Robots is a game that just begs to be played on your game evenings with buddies. It’s a world of fun to

Mayan Death Robots is a wonderful game to play with friends/family, it’s a lot of fun and laughing your ass of is pretty much guaranteed! It’s a lot of chaos, but in a good and entertaining way.

From time to time you have to bury the hatchet with your opponent to take on the mighty Mayan gods! Who (sometimes literally) really shake up the game! You can also destroy your opponent’s core in a lot of different and unique ways, and every robot is unique and has a certain playing style.

The game has a lot of character, the sounds/voices, the Mayans, the annoying Spanish mammals, the game play, graphics and let’s not forget about the humor in this game. All the little news reports in the main menu are definitely worth reading! The storyline itself is also really funny.

Worms Reloaded is a classic Worms game, It has all the classic weapons, sounds, graphic style. It is missing out on some customizations but it comes closest to the classic Worms games on Linux.

It has all of the elements of the classic Worms formula, The Weapons, The sound effects, The speechbank, the Team Customization, The Single Player Campaign, The only thing I am missing is the heavy game mode customization like we had in Armageddon and World Party. It still has the game mode customization but it is very limited in comparison.

7th Deep

7th Deep

A simple game with some surprising depth. I t has replayability due to the number of characters you can choose ( 7) and can be combined into any team of 3 or less. There are several save slots and if you find yourself fighting monsters beyond your ability you can teleport back to a location and redo the levels for more experience. If you like this type of game I highly recommend 7th Deep, and you can’t go wrong at this price.

I have only played for a short while, but wanted to pop in and say that I am loving this game. It’s a little different than other RPGs (no blue sky in sight, nor an Inn), and I like the difference. Makes a nice change.

Anyway, I highly recommend this game for those players who want to have fun with an easier to play game.

Additional:

After having played for quite a few hours and experimented with which characters work best, I know now which my 2 favourite characters are. The first one is mad, bad, and dangerous to know, and I love him. :)

Citizens of Space

Citizens of Space

First of all, erase the concepts that this is in fact a direct sequel to Citizens of Earth. In many ways, it continues along the story; but the systems to play this game are vastly different. They have evolved from their Earthbound-based battle system into something from say Super Mario RPG from the SNES era or Paper Mario from the N64. It is a bunch of minigames for abilities that is mixed with timed QTE events for reducing damage. In that aspect, this game shines and at the same time can be it’s downside as some of the minigames are quite tedious. You will find yourself not as much button mashing but wishing your timing was a bit better on some of the heavier costing abilities which consume energy, health, and other various things.

First of all, don’t mind the hours. There’s a late game citizen that gives you perks for idling the game as you AFK, the actual gameplay is.. I’d think closer to 20-25 hours.

If you’re looking for a grand story, you won’t find that here. That said, I do think the game is very much worth the money, esp if you find it on sale.

there’s a lot of charm and love put into this game, and it is a definite improvement on the previous entry, at least as far as memory serves (and you’ll have to forgive me, it’s been a while since I played CoE)

Battlepaths

The trailer for this game is exactly what you get, so if you enjoyed it, you will enjoy this game. It is a combat-based action RPG in the style of an older Diablo game with a focus on straightforwardness, simplicity, and an absurd, lovable, and cartoonish style. The main character, Rick, is a melee fighter that you can augment by choosing different stats and items to wear.

Like Diablo, the fun of the game is in beating things up and finding items. Rick accomplishes both of these by slamming his knife into enemies until they die in Rogue-like fashion. The strategy comes how you plan ahead by choosing what to wear, what to carry, where to stand, etc. rather than the actual combat, which is mostly just your stats comparing with the monsters and deciding how to use your consumable items. You also have a special meter that can be used to give yourself a boost for a short time. It’s easy to understand and enjoyable.

Story: 5/10 - Basic, but atleast it has some

Combat: 6/10 - Would say basic, hitting enemies, but it also has abilities which improves it alot

Characters: 2/10 - There is nobody that counts, only a few boring characters

Gameplay: 8/10 - The Game surprised me in a good way, it was challenging, but good

World :7/10 - Generic Fantasy world with multiple realms, that was a good idea

Visual: 8/10 - I did like its graphics, but sadly, the characters look does not change based on your equipment

Sound :7/10 - it was cute

Shattered Throne

Shattered Throne

Shattered Throne is a game with great core mechanics but sometimes questionable design choices. It’s largely inspired by Advance Wars, and it does a good job of capturing a lot of the great fun in those games, but it’s also quite ambitious and does a lot of new things to make it stand out.

One of the greatest things about this game is all the different units. First of all, there are three factions that you can play as and they all have their own units. The factions are well balanced, and it’s a lot of fun to strategize around their different playstyles. Each of the individual units also has a lot of personality, because they all have unique skills that can give them the edge in certain situations.

Real player with 141.1 hrs in game

Shattered Throne is sort of a hybrid between Nintendo’s Advance Wars and Fire Emblem games. From Advance Wars it takes the basic flow of gameplay: make money, build units, trade casualties, capture buildings, as well as COs and CO Powers. From Fire Emblem it takes the fantasy-medieval setting and individual unit level-ups. That being said, Shattered Throne brings many new mechanics to the table which set it apart from these games.

The meat and potatos of combat in this game is the combo system. Units are afflicted with a “combo” when struck, up to a maximum of three. Combos reduce their defense and counterattack strength, but will only stick around if the unit suffers many consecutive attacks. If any other action is taken (attacking a different unit, not attacking, ending the turn, etc.) the unit loses all combos and regains its usual stats. Since most units in the game are actually quite tough, an attacking player must be careful not to lose their combos before the enemy unit is dead.

The Dragons' Twilight II

The Dragons' Twilight II

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed Dragons' Twilight II [DT2], but you know…here goes:

Be sure to play DT1 before starting DT2. The story is wonderful and very important to know so you’ll better understand the DT2 continuation. I was a bit disappointed with the DT2 storyline at first. It is not as dragon-involved and doesn’t have quite the heart that DT1 had. But after getting into the game further a bit, I became enthralled with how the weapons, armor, and magic tomes could be enhanced or rearranged.

I can highly recommend this game. The developer has used clever changes in plot to make the story continually interesting. Just when you think things are getting predictable you are thrown a curve. The variety of music is excellent and the background scenes in battle and in travel mode are carefully done. Gameplay is interesting and fun. If you get stuck the developer is right there to help with advice. A great addition to the library of any old school rpg fan.

The Shrouded Isle

The Shrouded Isle

My my…this is certainly a game that casts cynicism upon religious belief, is it not? Apparently “ignorance” is a virtue, boys and girls!

So what the hell IS this game? Well, it’s a strategy game/management simulator, in which you basically have to keep a bunch of aristocratic houses onside, while finding one poor soul to sacrifice every season to the mighty deity Chernobog! (A sly reference to a certain Ukranian nuclear power plant disaster, perhaps?) To do this effectively, you must interrogate potential candidates and keep abreast of their various vices and virtues, in order to decide who is most worthy of such sacrifice, and who is more worth keeping around to undertake morale-boosting tasks. But be careful! Target a single house one time too many, and there might be nasty consequences…

I got this game at launch. The premise seemed strong, the art direction was compelling, so I took the jump.

Positives

  • Simple to learn - the mechanics are easy to get used to. The fundamentals are not bad, so you don’t need much time to get going. The important thing is how you apply them.

  • Very hard. Go into this expecting to lose but have fun. Treat it more like a choose your own adventure crossed with XCOM or Darkest Dungeon.

  • Art is amazing. The minimalistic use of colours looks top notch. The game allows you to switch between colour palettes, as well, so you can go with whatever feels best. I believe the limited usage of colours was a strong choice in making the game look a bit otherworldly.
