Defender’s Quest: Valley of the Forgotten (DX edition)

Defender’s Quest: Valley of the Forgotten (DX edition)

This is my favourite game in years.

It’s a tower defense game where each of what would normally be a tower is actually a character that levels up, like in an RPG, complete with a customizable skill tree, equipment, etc. These levels are earned from level to level, so you’re constantly improving your party.

This superficially simple gameplay concept is backed up on all sides by a great story, deep strategy elements and amazing replayability.

Story

Azra (or the name you choose) is the royal librarian that ends up in The Pit, a wretched place full of zombie-like creatures called Revenant. Using mysterious special powers (that excellently explain the tower defense gameplay) and the help of a band of ragtag adventures you’ll pick up it is your job to guide her out of the pit. There is more at stake, and the plot has plenty of developments to keep you interested, but what surprised me the most were the story’s pacing and its humour.

An art in making a RPG grind fun.

Imagine the game where your typical RPG party become towers in the typical Tower Defense game and you have Defender’s Quest in a nutshell. The game consists mostly of mowing down a conga line of various enemies that constantly move towards your main character as an end goal. Place your Knights, Berserkers, Druids and Ice Mages like buildings beside the highway and enjoy the fireworks, swords and arrows flowing. Recruit more units and upgrade them while spending experience points or buy them better equipment.

Defend the Rook

Defend the Rook

Great game, highly recommend trying it out. It might seem a little easy at first for this type of game where often you are meant to die a bunch and slowly become stronger with upgrades. You have 1-10 ascension levels, but the first 4 are super easy and then 7+ becomes pretty tough. I’m not super excited about how it scales at 7+ because it feels like artificial difficulty, everything starts to cost twice as much so you can’t upgrade everything. I would prefer the enemies becoming more challenging rather than having less upgrades.

Neat roguelite strategy game. Beat it on the highest difficulty, enjoyed figuring it out. I had fun with it and recommend it, but I’ll list stuff that bothered me:

-Your core loadout before any towers/traps are your castle and three heroes (warrior/rogue/mage) by default. You unlock variants of these classes as you play. It quickly became apparent to me that the easiest way to win was “buff the ranged characters” and turtle in the corner with defensive buffs. It’d be nice if the upgrades supported different goals. I believe I had one playthrough where my warrior carried me, and it’s because he had full map range, so he was basically a third ranged character.

Angels vs Demons

Angels vs Demons

Welcome to the heavenly world, in which you have to fight with demons. They have surrounded the heavens and are trying to destroy everyone. But there are angels at your disposal, ready to expel the enemy. You will have to focus all your strategic skills, anticipate and outrun the moves of enemies and capture enemy lands.

Magic towers generate warriors that can be controlled with the help of a computer mouse - move and send to fight with enemies, the player can also capture towers that belong to demons and protect their magic towers from demons.

守卫魔兽-Guardian of Warcraft

守卫魔兽-Guardian of Warcraft

No english reviews so I thought I’d write one.

Game is pretty basic but is a ton of fun. You defend a giant slime through over 15 decently designed maps. It plays like an active tower defense game. You can summon creatures to move around and defend the slime, as well as build a variety of stationary towers to attack nearby enemies.

The translation is REALLY rough, basically google translate, but fortunately you don’t really need to read anything in this game so it doesn’t matter.

It’s also not well balanced either. The first few levels will require you to grind them to level up and unlock new summons and tower upgrades. My best advice would be to max out the ice tower and the teleporter since they seem to be the most effective towers. But once you can clear level 4 you can pretty easily clear the rest of the game

Great reverse tower defense game. Easy to get hooked!

Single-player is fun, but multiplayer up to 8 players over LAN (but can fill in bots with different difficulties if you’d like) means I can blow up my buddy’s armies from afar.

Make lots of armies, blow up the other guys' armies, make bigger armies, and conquer. Multiple factions and individualized talent trees allows versatility in playstyle and adds a lot of depth to the game. 5/5.

Dwerve

Dwerve

Dwerve is a tower defense dungeon crawler RPG. It tells the story of a young dwarven tinkerer that adventures into dwarven ruins to unearth the lost technologies of the ancient warsmiths: turrets and traps, the only weapons that can protect the dwarves from Witch Queen Vandra the Wicked and her army of bloodthirsty trolls and monstrous creatures.

Key Features

  • Tactical turret-based combat involves making strategic decisions about which turrets and traps to build and where.

  • Upgrade your arsenal with over a dozen turrets and traps, each with it’s own unique upgrade tree.

  • Discover powerful artifacts: an arrow-blocking shield, dashing boots, a bouncing boomerang, a ground-shaking hammer, and more!

  • Story-based campaign. Unravel the history of the dwarves and the trolls in a story that features diverse characters and an unpredictable plot!

  • Explore ancient dungeons in multiple biomes, each with hidden secrets, mysterious puzzles, and interesting lore!

  • Fully dynamic lighting. Adventure through dimly lit dungeons that come to life with dynamic lights and shadows!

Backstory & Lore

In the massive hollow mountain of Mount Crowcrest, there once lived a great nation of dwarves. The dwarves discovered power stones while mining deep in the mountain. They used them to power machines and, eventually, entire cities. They lived in peace and prosperity for centuries.

Over time they became infatuated with power stones and dug deeper to find more. One day they dug too deep and unleashed the Gloomdark Hordes, an army of trolls and monstrous creatures. Once the dwarves realized that trolls turned to stone in the sunlight, they fled far from the mountain and found refuge on the sunny Hills of Brekka.

Centuries passed and, over time, the dwarves forgot their traditions and abandoned craftsmanship and innovation in favor of warring and raiding. History became myth, and myth became bedtime stories. But whispers of a long forgotten darkness echo throughout the valley of the great mountain. It can be heard in the Snoring Forest, by those who dare to enter…

The Last Hope: Zombie Defense TD

The Last Hope: Zombie Defense TD

A very competent Tower Defense title.

Does not bring anything new to the genre but what it does, it does fairly well. Good upgrade trees for towers and abilities and not too easy - you will have to think. Something different - from the fifth level the game will throw decoy units (crows) at you, so you will have to be careful about over use of archers and mages.

Not really a fan of the endless mode as it can go on too long (at least for me). I gave up at 175 waves. Maybe this aspect needs to be more difficult.

Endorfire Tower Defense

Endorfire Tower Defense

Fun little tower defence game! it’s already got different challenge levels and a good variety of maps, and is being updated with new functionality. The upgrade system is a little unbalanced (not enough upgrades per play time) but still good. I’ve got 32 hrs or so in and still quite a few challenge levels to go, I haven’t even gotten to hard yet.

Real player with 36.4 hrs in game

Very impressed with Endorfire Tower Defense! The graphics are visually appealing, especially the towers.

My favorite was the Fireball Tower!

You have your choice of easy, medium and difficult levels. The difficult level was definitely challenging and extremely fast pace but fun!

You need to be quick to buy your towers and to upgrade them as soon as your Mana allows you to.

I can’t wait to play again!

Infectra

Infectra

This is a good game, but it has potential to become an even greater game.

Here are some of the Pros and Cons when you buy this game

Pros

  • Fun and Challenging Levels

  • Strategy is needed to complete the levels

  • Good Cutscenes

  • Good Graphics

Cons

  • Maximum of four buildings can be built at any one time

  • Sometimes it requires more luck than strategy to complete the levels because of the building queue system.

  • The Ion Cannon is unusable in some of the levels because by the time you get to use it, nearly all the infected have destroyed either the control gates or barriers and powerplants.

Great quality, smooth visuals and challenging missions - all wrapped in a cool storyline.

Instant recommendation, just a must have.

I hate power plants though xD
