The Last Friend

The Last Friend

If you are a fan of PvZ, consider buying this when it is on 30% sales . The gameplay is a little mix between PvZ TD and fighting. Visual and music is nice and relaxing, the plot is easy to understand with dogs everywhere. However, the gameplay will get repetitive and bored very soon. The fighting mechanics are too simple without anything new and different between skills.

I have completed this game for 100% achievement in around 17 hours - this is a casual and easy game without any challenges. Overall, 6/10 for me

SHORT VERSION:

The Last Friend is a lane-based tower defense game in which you balance tower placement with runnin' around smackin' fools. It’s a pretty good one of these, with a good variety of towers and personal abilites that you can combine as you wish. Things can get a little stale at points though, as certain late-game strategies are extremely solid once they’re built, and a good brawler won’t have much trouble collecting the scrap to build them. Overall, I had a pretty good time, and even the overpowered builds were pretty fun to unleash upon the enemy during my final push.

Kingdom Rush - Tower Defense

Kingdom Rush - Tower Defense

Kingdom Rush (KR) is a really fun and well-made tower defense game. I have already finished the game at 100%, 43hrs of fun, totally worth full price: 9.5/10 ¡Awesome!

In KR you’ll manage only 4 type of towers, but these towers have very good upgrades, so you’ll have to decide which upgrade is better for your situation in-game, by the way, you can sell the towers but you get a penalty receiving less money. Here a little explanation of the towers without upgrades just with their regular properties:

With over 78 levels to complete and master, Kingdom Rush remains a solid tower defense strategy game that is offered at a more than fair price. Challenge your ability to think and plan ahead whilst also maintaining a degree of entertainment and fun.

–——————————————————-

I started off playing Kingdom Rush as a casual joke: as you can probably tell, it quickly evolved beyond that. With a little over 43 hours under my belt, you can be certain that you’re receiving the most bang for your buck.

Kingdom Rush Origins - Tower Defense

Kingdom Rush Origins - Tower Defense

If you’ve played either of the other two Kingdom Rush games, then you know what to expect with Origins. That’s not to say that this installment isn’t accessible to newcomers, but with all of the references to the previous games, veterans of the series will certainly get more out of it.

The big change this time around, other than the brand new assortment of towers, enemies, heroes, and maps, is a new hero specific major spell. It sits right next to Reinforcements and Thunderbolt (this game’s panic button) on every map and recharges the same way they do. Where they differ is the hero specific spell varies in effect depending on the hero, with some mimicking Reinforcements, some mimicking Thunderbolt, and others acting as more direct damage like Reg’son’s one-shot-one-kill Vindicator. This improvement adds a new level of complexity to choosing a hero as that unique spell can completely change your approach. I also found the heroes to be better balanced in this game than in previous installments. Switching heroes is now more about adapting to each one’s strengths and weaknesses than it is about upgrading to better heroes as those become available, at least so far.

I never did play the first game so I can’t compare (I am now going to tho), but I have to say this is a brilliant game for those into tower defence games.

There is not a great deal to explain here about gameplay, Its a typical tower defence like every other but its fun, smooth and really well balanced for a change, I didn’t come across any performance issues at least which is nice.

As for the maps themselves, they are fairly small, it would have been nice to see much bigger maps just to make things more challenging but they are all still fun to play and still require tactics at times when things get hectic.

Kingdom Rush Vengeance - Tower Defense

Kingdom Rush Vengeance - Tower Defense

Perhaps Kingdom Rush Vengeance is good when considered in a vacuum, but since I don’t live in a vacuum I can’t recommend it. The Kingdom Rush tower defense games are generally excellent, but in my opinion this is the worst of the bunch. Since the other games are nearly identical, I recommend playing an earlier Kingdom Rush game instead.

The main difference with Kingdom Rush Vengeance is that stars you earn don’t mean anything. In earlier Kingdom Rush games, the better you do, the more stars you earn, and beating the optional challenge modes gives even more stars, and stars are what you used to unlock upgrades. In Kingdom Rush Vengeance, you get the same number of upgrade points no matter how well you do, and beating the optional challenge modes does not give any additional upgrade points. That takes away most of the reason to try to get a top score or to beat the extra challenge modes.

Kingdom Rush Vengeance Review

TLDR: If you’ve played and enjoyed previous Kingdom Rush (KR) games in the past, then this is an easy recommend. As long as you’re ok with a few tweaks. If you’re new to the series, then Kingdom Rush Vengeance (KRV) is a solid, enjoyable tower defence game.

In this title, unlike the others, you play as the “bad-guys” lead by Vez’nan who was defeated at the end of the last game. The main game takes place across 16 maps in 3 different lands. An additional 9 maps are unlocked after completing the 16th level, 3 maps taking place in each land.

Story

Flora, a former leader of Nova’s army, is back in service. Still alive baal the necromancer contaminates the pago lands with his evil power. Flora’s mission is to build a large army and recover power artifacts to annihilate her enemies. In her quest she will need you! Are you up to the challenge?

Pago Forest worthy successor of The Dragon’s Vengeance (scenario) renews its gameplay. We are no longer in an educational game this time but in a real tower defense! The goal is to put the right characters or tower at the right time against the right enemies. For this you will need gold! a lot of gold! and courage of course… The game is composed of 5 acts, 26 missions that each have their trailer. Each act ends with a boss. Like its predecessor, the dialogues will be well garnished with jokes :) We will also find a mana bar for the spells delivered by the artefacts (beware some powers are only used once per level) The game is simple to understand but you will have to use strategy to finish it…

Star Vikings Forever

Star Vikings Forever

Star Vikings is actually a bit like Plant vs. Zombies - but you play the Zombies not the plants. It is a reversed tower defense game, where you have to destroy the towers (slugs) to get through. You have a variety of “heroes” in your arsenal, the tank, able to withstand a lot of damage, the viking, able to throw lightning on the slugs, “angels” able to cast shields (and healing), …

Each hero can wear a hat, giving him some bonuses, like extra damage, extra energy, more hitpoints, …

It is a worthwile casual game and quite nice to play.

I love these kinds of light strategy games.

Pros:

Easy enough.

Always seems that if I don’t pay careful attention I end up hurting myself.

Feels like you have lots of options in the load out of your Vikings, and you can play it how you want to play it if you are willing to work for the hats that make your strategy work.

There’s a good amount of game, especially if you want most of the achievements.

Cons:

I seemed to have an issue if I let a Viking die in front of another Viking, the one left alive would not step past the dead Vikings last spot. Think that’s a bug.

BeeFense BeeMastered

BeeFense BeeMastered

(I got this game free because I have the original beefense)

Beefense is a rts/ td hybrid. You send your bees to harvest resources in between waves. There are 4 resources- pollen, nectar, water, and honeydew.

Pollen- Money, used for building/ leveling up new towers and spawning new bees.

Nectar- Fuel. If it runs out, your bees will perform poorly.

Water- used to give towers a boost, improving firing rate, range, and I think damage.

Honeydew- Special Currency, used to unlock tower upgrades, beesearch, free caged bees, and buy ding balls and black ninja wasps.

Simple tower defense with a simple chummy plot. Having fun.

Downside….

Some things are not clear at all which leads to cons.

  1. Rolling Dungballs with mouse and keyboard. Even after finding thru a 3rd party, it takes alot of finesse to right click and drag the ball.

  2. After around the 15th mission, I had issues where I could select everything except my bees… Reboot problem sovled.

  3. At mission 25, game decided to tell me what to due in German. I failed. Rebooted game told me to destroy glow things in English. Still failed. Rebooted, and killed a enemy base and was able to advance.

Crypto: Against All Odds - Tower Defense

Those who are familiar with the plants versus zombies series will be right at home when playing this game, Crypto manages to capture a frantic, fast paced tower defense that’s even a bit educational. Fingers crossed for any potential dlc or content updates in the future.

Fun little tower defense game. Does a few things new, does a lot of things well, and scratches the tower defense itch nicely. Story bangs on incomprehensibly but, honestly, you can skip the story and miss nothing. There’s one or two other minor quibbles but, really, for the price you’re getting fantastic value. If you like tower defense games this is a solid entry.

Defend the Cake

Defend the Cake

Really strong and fun early access tower defense game.

  • Has good progression of different types of enemies with different abilities (fast, armored, flying, burrowing, building jumping, etc)

  • Interesting mechanic where the bugs get to the cake and then go back along a ground path (which would only be different if they are flying/jumping.)

  • Fun different building types that balance different tradition TD buildings with some fun modifications (fast, slow, aoe, high damage single target).

  • Interesting boss enemies with different mechanics.

Real player with 47.4 hrs in game

My favorite aspect is the unique mechanic of limited actions. In between rounds, you only have four (later six) eggbirds to build, upgrade, or gain extra resources. While you can undo immediate actions, you cannot sell or move towers later.

During a round, your only action is to temporarily power up towers, then wait a few seconds for the recharge. This might sound limited, but especially in later levels, it keeps you busy with quickly deciding when and on which tower to use your power best.

The maps are very open, giving you many different options to figure out the best set up by replaying a level.

FTD2

Nothing particularly gamebreaking about this title, but has that essential “one more try” aspect, particularly when the leaderboards let you know that you could be doing it better.

Wouldn’t mind a speedup button. (which I have now got)!
