McDROID

McDROID

A Tower Defense game, between average and good. Graphics are colourful, but need a powerfull hardware to run, even in low quality; when screen has plenty of action, can cause lags and crashes.

Mechanics is right; has only 5 towers to choose, but each has 4 possible upgrades. Also there is 5 kinds of powerfull items, with a crescent price by use. Towers and items must be unblocked by ingame progress. The economy is based in a mixed system of farming and gems, to buy towers, upgrades and items.

McDROID is one of the two most imaginative tower defense games I’ve played in a long time. It’s a timeless story about you (a puppy-like robot named McDROID) and your friend SHUTTLE crash-landing on the dying Planet M. You must plant and harvest strawberries as a form of currency to build and upgrade towers to fight off the corrupted creatures that have taken a stronghold on Planet M. This may really sound strange, but it’s also a truck load of fun!

Maintaining your calm, like John Spartan, is crazy essential to McDROID. If you don’t keep a clear head you’ll start forgetting to maintain your defenses so you can gather stuff or you’ll forget about gathering strawberries and have nothing to buy towers with. Things can go from good to “Oh sweet mother! Where did all THAT come from!?!” fairly quickly. That’s part of the strategy/challenge though.

So far so awesome! A difficult challenge that is to be sure, but that’s sort of what makes it as fun as it is! I’ve gotten MANY hours in this game and finally decided to sit down and tell people they need to play this. The developer is constantly working on fixing problems that arise and I’ve found more than one bug that had been corrected fairly quickly. It’s a fun take on the tower defense genre, the bullets have a nice hard punch sound, the mechs look pretty cool (and i love mechs) the Kaiju’s all have fun and interesting designs. The art is well done, the music is top knotch and harkens back to the old days of red alert. It’s hard for me to put into words everything I really enjoy about this game. I’m not a shill either, I’ve searched for things to say I dislike about the game, I always try to search for things I dislike so I don’t come off as some sort of fanboy and the only thing I can say is… sometimes it’s a little TOO hard, but somehow I enjoy that part too.

This game is astonishing, and there is only one way I can describe it, by sharing all the states the game has put me through:

Megastates when you play MVK: DAHFA

-Disbelief: you don’t know what’s happening, everything is going out of control and you don’t know what to do or where the hell to shoot at

-Awareness: You start realizing how satisfying it is to see those destroyed Kaijus, you start being aware of your battle material and things start making sense.

-Happiness: Missions are getting better and better, as well as you, my friend. Your weapon choice becomes excelent, your mistakes in the past are now your best weapons and you realize you are a strategy lover

Awesome game thus far. Playing with Standard HTC Vive, and just to be fair, I am a big fan of Tower Defense genres.

Just a note of caution to all HTC Vive players, the controls are not very well laid out for the standard Vive Touch Controllers. In order to activate the two (2) Super Weapons in the game, you need to press up on the Touch Pad, which very rarely works. You cannot even get past the Tutorial until you are able to active the Super Weapon to show you are ready to play. The tutorial was the only time I was able to get a Super Weapon to actually work…and it took several attempts even then. In game, it is nearly impossible as far as I can tell, so I have never actually used a Super Weapon on enemies as of yet.

I played this via VR exclusively, I cannot speak to the non-VR enviornment.

Pro’s

• Addictive gameplay

• Visually appealing

• Great heavy metal music that will keep your heart pumping along with the action

• Sense of progression

• Can sit or stand

• Overall good controls and movement (with one exception in the Con’s)

• Doesn’t necessarily hold your hand

• Towers have a sense of increased power as you upgrade

• Some levels were quite challenging

• Feels like you’re in the middle of a big playset

Solid game with strong roguelite feel. If you like replayability, varying experiences within runs, fun tower defense, and a good time, the game is easily worth $17 to try out and even get more content as the game develops further.

Update: The game will still randomly crashes and the “balance” isn’t balanced at all. The game is actually harder. The research system does little to make the game enjoyable. I’ll keep trying after each update; because, I WANT to enjoy this game. I love the concept. Still only have the same three bosses.

Update: Played again since there were “Updates”. Game crashed straight away even after the V1.2 crash hot fixes. Still unbalanced. Still not a whole lot to keep people engaged. I want to like it, but honestly its a dud.

Hostile Mars

Hostile Mars

Hostile Mars is a Tower-Defense Factory-Building game. You must create efficient supply chains, salvage destroyed enemies, and upgrade structures to support your gigantic cannons that defend your base against thousands of enemies.

UPGRADE GIGANTIC GUNS

Upgrade everything to a ridiculous degree. Laser turrets come in sizes 1, 2, 3, or 120.

BATTLE THOUSANDS OF ENEMIES

Enemy drones pour over the hills and tower above you. You will need every upgrade you can get to defend against them.

AUTOMATE YOUR SUPPLY CHAIN

You don’t have time to defend your base and acquire supplies!

Instead, create supply lines by automating hundreds of delivery bots to harvest ore and resupply your base.

FEATURES

  • Upgrade your traps to deal more damage, collect materials that fall from defeated enemies, and tons of other crazy stuff.

  • Upgrade your turrets to shoot farther and hit harder!

  • Upgrade your base to unlock new items.

  • Upgrade walls, guns, ammo, delivery bots, harvesters, machines, buildings, storage, and more!

  • Strategically place walls, traps, and turrets to create a defense strong enough to keep your home base energy core protected.

Intern Pursuit Game

This game is obviously still in development. But if you like tower defense games this might be up your alley. 3d 1st per Tower defense.

This game isn’t particularly groundbreaking, but it is quirky and charming in it’s own right. There obviously are still a tremendous number of bugs, and it’s still pretty short at the moment, but that’s to be expected from early access. That aside, who doesn’t like shooting aliens?

So, first did i recommend the game? It’s a big yes. But there is some little thing that need to be said. First, in respone with every player saying “it’s an endless lose spiral” no, look a little bit at the game and you will see that when a tower get destroyed, IT’S ENTIRELY REFUND. Second, if you die on the first few day… You’re not ready for the days after 80. You can’t blame a game cause you’re bad. It’s remind me of something… A yes, Git Gud Scrubs. Third, the dmg of the tower. I see some people complaining about the dmg of the tower being unfair, that it’s ridiculous. To that i have to say that i didn’t get any problem on this side on my first run. The first tower you get is insane with some upgrade, it OS every little infantery ennemy, and you destroy ennemy tank quickly. So yes, the game is hard, but not impossible. You need to prioritize some upgrade, when you see a precise ennemy, focus it, etc… there is some kind of aim assist too, so aiming is not THAT hard. I love all the effect of explosion, it was soooo good. The graphisms are good too, and i love to see all the little infantery fly when i nuke them. It’s hard, but not impossible.

This is a recommendation, but with some major caveats. I’ll break it down into good and bad here. I’ll also go in depth on a major complaint I have with the game.

The Good:

  • A fun and relaxing tower defense game

  • A nice balance between the impact of your towers and the impact of your own manual fire control of the Taur Prime cannon

  • Very sleek aesthetic, the game and models looks good in a classy indie way. The guardian robots look especially cool with a Greek Hoplite style spear and shield armament

Automata Break

Automata Break

An excellent VR game. It’s pretty immersive, very strategical and skill rewarding, smooth locomotion doesn’t get you dizzy and playing it with a friend in Multiplayer (PC/VR) makes for a lot of time of fun without you both having to own a VR headset.

This is a truly awesome game! If you like Tower Defense games at all, you have to get this one. Not only can you play with the help of someone else on your computer, you can play alone in VR.

I really like how the VR player can actually go from tabletop Tower Defense, and get immersed in the action by transforming into the map, and help your towers fight the invaders.

My only complaint thus far is even in normal difficulty, it is still very difficult to progress to the different stages. I hope the developer gives the old guys like me an Easy version soon. Awesome graphics as well at a great price of less than $20.

Generally speaking, marking an Early Access Game down is a tricky practice. I can already imagine some people rolling their eyes saying how an Early Access Game is supposed to be broken, buggy, or possible a pain to bear with. That’s because the developer haven’t finish adding all the magic that’s suppose to make the game fun. Even though this Early Access game does indeed it’s fair share of bug and glitches. (such as not charging resources for upgrade on certain instances/level, or the final boss’s attack animation not triggering properly, etc.) I know that those problems can be fixed in future update. No, the reason why I strongly recommend most sane person to STAY AWAY from this game is because this game is suffering a serious case of identity crisis.

A very fun and extremely enjoyable journey through space in the form of a splendidly executed Tower Defense game.

The gameplay progression is very enjoyable.

You’re given limited resources almost always and time is short, so you’re to make the most of what you have and think critically. Pacing is very well done, introducing something new almost every map, however most things won’t see the light of day very often, which is kind of a shame.

The element of cloning / messing with humanoid DNA is surprisingly well done and easy to figure out, but hard on decision making early game. Sadly the majority of the time you’ll stick with the same setup, and once you get a certain DNA type, you’re steamrolling over everything, so that might have been a bit over the top.
