Atom Zombie Smasher

Atom Zombie Smasher

Atom Zombie Smasher is a super little indie strategy game. The basic premise is that you take on the guise of a commander holding back the zombie hordes from overruning your city.

It works on two levels; first is the strategy where a map of the city districts is where you see the progress of zombie infestations and plan your next mission. You can choose which military assets you take with you from: infantry, snipers, mines, demolitions, barricades, gas attracting teams or artillery. Once you initiate the mission, the game changes to a tactical sub-game where you place your units on the map to best protect the civilians you are trying to extract from the map, while avoiding collateral damage. To many dead civilians and you fail.

There’s alot to be said about Atom Zombie Smasher. the game is an amazing mix of challenging gameplay and challenges.

Atom zombie smasher does not hesitate to put you smack dab into action, your first challenge becomes to rescue some civilians from an impending zombie invasion which sets the tone for the rest of the game.

As you progress in the game you’re provided with varying mercenaries that randomly get picked for missions. Some examples of mercenaries are for example ranger teams, snipers and dynamite teams. Each map will provide a different challenge which requires alot of tactical thinking and planning.

Necronator: Dead Wrong

With almost 15 hours under my belt, here’s my thoughts.

The game is setup in an RTS meets deck-builder. This gives the game a different feel than your straight up deck builders (like Slay the Spire or Banners of Ruin). Since the battle is semi-automated, you just have to manage your resources. But don’t call it easy, because there is a great challenge sometimes in keeping up with the various levels; especially with the “survive for xxx seconds” maps.

You get commanders with different playstyles. One is a straight-up combat deck and the other is a toy-box style deck with few normal units. You can also unlock alternate decks for the commanders for even more variation at the start. The upgrade paths for the cards can be a bit random, so the rogue-like element is there and can either flummox you or really help you.

Mostly fun game, has some fairly obnoxious/punishing game mechanics.

For starters, there are a decent number of relics (items that effect everything, usually based on some criteria) that give you some strong boosts if you have fielded less than 6 units. Then half the game is spent playing against enemies who get to make a card in your hand useless every few seconds if you have less than 10 (will be lowing to 6 according to the roadmap) units on the field. Do you want to try and field a small but strong elite army if the relics line up right? Good luck when you have to wait for mana to regen and by that point there is a solid chance that your card gets ‘silenced’. Silenced isnt just some minor condition that can be fixed, its a card in your hand that now CANT DO ANYTHING. The only way to get rid of it is to redraw your hand, which can cost from free (if you wait long enough and are playing the toy maker) to 40 mana (of which you only get 100 from the base hero).

Siege of Centauri

Siege of Centauri

Siege of Centauri is one of the best looking tower defence games available and as a tower defence aficionado, I would say it is worth playing.

Forgive the comparison, but Siege of Centauri was clearly made by and for people who are looking to scratch their Defense Grid itch. It turns out that Siege of Centauri has some fairly obvious references in it that pay homage to Defense Grid, namely the interface looks almost like it was lifted from Defense Grid and some of the music too. It also has a similar story with advisers popping up between missions to brief you on what the mysterious enemy is up to.

I don’t play many tower defense games. It’s essentially a puzzle, where you try to figure out the most efficient combinations of towers and placements to defend your base. There are features that let you see what is coming, and once you learn the units and iconography, you can definitely develop strategies and plans ahead of time. There are terrific controls for difficulty, as well as mechanics that let you customize and upgrade your available tower selection. I also see capabilities for a survival mode (defend as long as you can) and custom map development. I think there might also be an intent to support steam workshop, so that mods and custom maps can be shared.

Clearly a mobile port but the game is kind of addicting, its basic tower defence with ability to level up the units and heroes that control one of each of the units. The units costs to put down along with the gems you get for doing missions is reasonable enough that you do not really need to spend real money on the game. It is in a sense a great time killer while you wait for your mates to come online or just to shoot a few missions before you retire for the evening, it is kind of relaxing mindless game play as a lot of the missions are easy, some though do throw you and you end up using the special gem based weapons to save the day. If you like tower defence this is for you, if you like it user friendly this is also for you but i wouldnt play this as a main game so to speak. Saying that 7/10 not bad time waster imo

i am not a big fan of tower defence games, but it was free so i gave it a go.

well worth it. possibly the best tower defence game i have so far played and i still play daily weeks later. its challenging enough without being frustrating and its entertaining enough not to be dull. graphics are sufficient and not 90’s pixels like so many other free games and micro purchases are not massively over=priced which is another norm.

latter stages im sure the cost of microtransactions and what they provide will be redundant as the cost to reward ratio will be worthless, but early game it can be a real benefit. getting all 6 heroes unlocked early is a real benefit.

Gameplay / Story

Insects where the world is moving? Exactly, you read that right because that is the content of this game. The invasion begins from the planet Zardoz. This planet is ruled by the alien race and is under the command of train rapoids. One day she came down from heaven, who likes her, disgusting, nasty insects. But it’s not just insects, because they can mind control over all insect rights, in order to wage them and against us, to gradually deposit the planet. The first battle takes place in our house. You have to feel yourself room by room against all kinds of crawlers and flying enemies. As in every classic TD, waves wave weirs and the level consistently gold-plated with 3 stars. You collect technology points that are used in your towers to be gold-plated, to enjoy new special attacks or other bonuses. This means fight and make sure they haven’t even thought about hearing the phase phase over. Destroy the problem before it becomes a problem!

I love tower defense, and this game is solid. I played this back when it was a custom map and enjoyed it then; I think this version is better. There is room for improvement / enhancements and maybe we’ll see that in an update or sequel but if you dig TD, this game (that costs less than a latte) will do you right. My only real beef is that you can’t pause the game once it’s begun; that adds some excitement but is not what I’m personally looking for in this type of game (I like a more relaxed strategy experience), however it’s not overwhelming so no trouble.

Pros:

-Same feeling as the old WC3 and Dota2 custom maps,

-Nice design

-The sounds provide a good atmosphere to the game

-Good optimisation

-Runs on the crappiest machines too

Cons: Well there are a couple, unfortunately…

-Can’t see the range of towers before placing them

-Can’t target creeps with the towers manually

-Need to go into the specific towers description to check what I need to build it. In the custom games, it was already done that moving the cursor over an element it highlights what it will make buildable.

This game is brilliant! Many cool new things that made me spend a lot of time ingame. I usually don’t write reviews but as a tower defense fan and not finding enough reviews on this one, I had to say that it really brings some novelty on the genre (I had to re-think all my strategies learned in other TDs).

I like how the enemy is fighting with me, they struggle to bring my towers down :D, very nice animations and there is something interesting and addictive with the AI that I can’t pinpoint exactly.

AegisM

As a fully integrated three dimensional game, AegisM makes other tower-defense games look like crossword puzzles. It has changed the genre completely. Play as a character who moves around, places towers, utilizes abilities, and shoots weapons in an effort to survive as long as possible. The enemy mobs are challenging and diverse. Each map requires a different strategy. The builds and possibilities are endless. Don’t be afraid to experiment :) I have enjoyed every one of the 160+ hours I have played this game. Highly recommend!!!!

Been playing this gem during development in early-access with non stop enjoyment.

If you love Tower Defence then you’ll for sure get lost in this game.

The game offers a unique style to tower defence including competitive leader boards (which makes me enjoy it the most)

fun challenges, unlockables and CO-OP gameplay which allows you to rule the leadersboards with your friends if you have good synergy and teamwork or simply just prove who’s the better player in PvP or beating them in leader boards.

God of Failure

God of Failure

A fake and unfinished product, and can be seen very fast. Graphics and music aren’t bad, but there is nothing more better to say. No control instructions, no tutorial. No story: only groups of poor orcs that attacking a castle without any other motive than… to be orcs. Isn’t a true Tower Defense game as info tags say in the store page, really is a Time Manager based on traps of single use, and their menu texts are so little that are illegible without a magnifying glass, and isn’t a joke. The player get gold from the beginning only just watching how time goes by ( why it dont happens in real world? ) and can dig to find more for replace or emplace more miserable traps or enhanced the castle lifepoints: and thats all. But any interest is totally ruined by the nasty zoom: has been fixed too low, only rotates 90 degrees to left-right; even roll up-down the screen is not easy, and the full map cannot be see. This product is useless even as a gift because the destinatary will think you hate or despise him.

Interesting looking tower defense game that falls really short. The build traps in time mentality is okay, but combine that with make sure the traps are in perfect location in pathway and traps are really only good for one kill unless perfectly placed and timed and you have a tower defense game that comes off as way harder than it has any right to be.

This sort of master planning may be appreciated by some but I prefer the idea of laying traps and building upon that as the level goes. Here I just throw a grenade down, hopes it kills enough, than hope that my funds refill in time for me to get something else through a build phase and at the correct position to kill another enemy before they mosey on through to my castle. The digging for treasure mechanic was also a bit time consuming when your pressures to properly place and build are time consuming enough under the conditions you have to endure to survive.

Probably my new favorite causal RTS game, and cant wait to see new troops/levels added!!! Beautiful art style, with very nice looking characters and levels (Including the main menu). The battles are fast-paced but timed really well to prevent an overwhelming number of troops. Unlike most RTS games I’ve played, you don’t have to dedicate a large amount of time to play this, but there’s a ton of content for such a low price!

A really awesome stylish and casual RTS game. Perfect for newcomers to the genre and people (like me) who love RTS games. It has really satisfying battles and it’s super unique and fun to play through. And, there’s a TON of content for being so cheap!!
