Defense Grid: The Awakening

Allow me my conceit.

DG is the best video game I have ever played, and many of you reading this could my grandkids friends.

I usually avoid pronouncements. I avoid posting comments even more, but DG is so special, so rare, I must share with you why you should buy it.

Check how many hours I have invested in this love affair. I still play every week. I invite you to check older posts from pre-2010 to see how this game enveloped not just me but a whole community being introduced to tower defense for the first time, not to mention veterans of the genre.

Tower security entertainments are a dime twelve on the Internet, which is a touch of an adornment generally as in most by a long shot of them are permitted to-play, so paying 10 pennies would be unnecessary overabundance. Still, it’s not stunning that tower shield entertainments are so celebrated; done successfully they can be an addictive time suck, draining without end the hours as you try to set up a defensive system that can withstand everything the PC hurls at it. With these free preoccupations out there, can’t avoid being there space for a premium tower security diversion? Covered Path Entertainment advances a persuading resistance with Defense Grid: The Awakening, a $20 redirection that offers a great deal of tense minutes and significantly more significance than an ordinary tower monitor diversion.

An interesting and very competent Tower Defense title. Picked up on sale, otherwise it might have passed me by - there were no reviews. Had I seen the SpecOps review I probably (unfortunately) would have given it a miss. That said, in retrospect I would have been happy to pay full price.

There is a good Tutorial to introduce you to the basics and I would suggest playing each of these 6 levels a couple of times to let the information sink in. The game has a mine of information (you just have to dig around a bit) so don’t let it pass you by.

I’ve had the chance to play many tower defence games through my YouTube channel and I found this one really interesting, especially the challenge mode.

Looking forward to doing more with it in the near future

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨@author:

5/10 Tower Cats recommend this game.

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

☑️A serious “looking” Tower Defense game.

☑️A campaign mode / Survival mode.

☑️A little bit of variety.

❌Feels lacking in terms of freedom.

❌A more forced version of a Tower Defense.

❌Isn’t fast enough.

❌No repair function.

❌The radius HUD for turrets is confusing. Does it reach?

My personal opinion?

I’ve played TD games my entire life from time to time.

I’m familiar with the different niche attempts to make something new and fresh and modern…

Would be okay as a free game. It’s incredibly short and incredibly easy. You can beat every level just by filling the field with the first available tower and upgrading them. There’s like 6 levels and not much variation between them. I can’t recommend buying this game, even as a free game, just get the Ninja Kiwi Launcher and play Bloons TD for free.

Decent, cheap Tower Defense title with unannoying music (a plus in my book) and reasonable graphics.

Nothing new, but you will have to think.

So, first did i recommend the game? It’s a big yes. But there is some little thing that need to be said. First, in respone with every player saying “it’s an endless lose spiral” no, look a little bit at the game and you will see that when a tower get destroyed, IT’S ENTIRELY REFUND. Second, if you die on the first few day… You’re not ready for the days after 80. You can’t blame a game cause you’re bad. It’s remind me of something… A yes, Git Gud Scrubs. Third, the dmg of the tower. I see some people complaining about the dmg of the tower being unfair, that it’s ridiculous. To that i have to say that i didn’t get any problem on this side on my first run. The first tower you get is insane with some upgrade, it OS every little infantery ennemy, and you destroy ennemy tank quickly. So yes, the game is hard, but not impossible. You need to prioritize some upgrade, when you see a precise ennemy, focus it, etc… there is some kind of aim assist too, so aiming is not THAT hard. I love all the effect of explosion, it was soooo good. The graphisms are good too, and i love to see all the little infantery fly when i nuke them. It’s hard, but not impossible.

This is a recommendation, but with some major caveats. I’ll break it down into good and bad here. I’ll also go in depth on a major complaint I have with the game.

The Good:

  • A fun and relaxing tower defense game

  • A nice balance between the impact of your towers and the impact of your own manual fire control of the Taur Prime cannon

  • Very sleek aesthetic, the game and models looks good in a classy indie way. The guardian robots look especially cool with a Greek Hoplite style spear and shield armament

THE LAST DEFENSE!

THE LAST DEFENSE!

If you find this review to seem unpolished, illogical, repetative, unedited and a waste of time, well, that is because I wrote it in the same manner as this game was designed. So, maybe that seems harsh, yet the game is that, too. So, I advise that you not purchase The Last Defense unless you truly hate yourself and/or enjoy being tortured, which considering the crazy ### of hours I’ve put in solving these mostly non-intuitive levels and basically torturing myself with frustration trying to beat them (BTW I am a long time TD player, not new to the genre) apparently I am guilty of both of these sins.

Real player with 163.3 hrs in game

I am the first to admit that I’m not the greatest gamer in the world, I like to play games on Easy mode and then see if I can beat levels on the harder levels later. It took me a long time (but not the 65 hours it is showing that I’ve played for!) but I did beat the first level on Easy eventually and looked forward to playing Level 2. Nope, got to beat the first level on normal and hard before you can advance. This is just pathetic and I am too pathetic a player to be able to achieve this. I don’t want my money back I want to be able to play the game through on Easy level. I hope the developer fixes this because it is a good game.

Had a great experience playing this game at EGX 2019 and I have been keeping an eye out for this game ever since. The game is fantastic! This is my first tower defence game ever and it is a great intro to the genre. I have a great time playing this game and time goes by quickly as it can be very addictive. Killer soundtrack too, really fits in well with the game could turn you into a BEAST!

It’s not awful but not great either. Mines also count as towers… which is dumb since you have a tower limit number next to a mine limit number. The difficulty is wack as fuck. Love TD and have played and beaten all TD games that arent garbage but in this game shit happens and nothing fucking nothing you can do about it… Support shield tower is total shit as you can’t put towers even close to each other. Game feels incomplete. I want to recommend but not yet. Purchase only when on sale

I’ve played a lot of tower defense games and this one is really compelling. There are difficulty spikes that had me ragequitting, but here’s some advice - don’t be afraid to spread your towers out, and sponsorship mode is endgame.

I love and I hate this game. The number of stages that you spend 30 minutes in, doing really well, and then the boss monster comes out and FUCKING STEAMROLLS YOU is waaaaaay too high. Also there are only a handful of “winning” round 1 plays, I am restarting a lot and I wish there was a better system in place to make sure you have an actual play round 1.

This game right here is a gem. I have played hundreds of tower defense games, this ones special. Starts simple, and keeps adding layers with tower cards as you progress/farm. the effects on cards add so many ways to play. What a delight to not have a games in game purchase cost money!! it costs regents from playing lvl/farming to purchase packs for more cards, which packs seem to get better as you progress? easy to get to! It still has some bugs i have come into. but for me. nothing game breaking. Just notice it at keep playing/grinding. I am the type of person that likes to jump around from mmo to shooter, to thinker games. like tower defense or whatever. I like to have a game of each type to play at will. and this one has filled a void missing for tower defense for a minute. im a deep fan of such games likes orcs must die 2. where u can really set stuff up. and yes i gave up trying to type proper…can you tell? :)
