No Crooks On Christmas

No Crooks On Christmas

This is a really cute, fun game where you defend the Christmas tree against adorable little invaders using a tower defense-style game system. I really like how the towers expire, as it keeps you continually revisiting your strategy and adds an almost arcade element to the game. Very cute, very fun, and what a perfect game for the holidays! I love it! :)

Very addictive. Cool art style and has a very nostalgic feel. The difficulty increase as you progress through the levels provides a fun challenge - not just difficult for the sake of being difficult like lots of games. Thought I’d try it out quick, then an hour later I was still playing. And I’ll likely keep coming back to it for a few rounds of survival mode here and there! Definitely recommended.

TL;DR, Verdict

Fun tower defense game. Nice price, recommended if you don’t mind grinding.

At one point it will become really difficult that is the reason you will need to grind for upgrades.

Pros

Simple and well executed

Satisfying to play and complete the missions/get achievements

Enough variation to keep you engaged

Cons

Don’t play with sound on if you’re playing for a while

79 / 100

Ancient Planet (AP) is easy to overlook as just another standard ol’ school tower defense game. It does come off as rather generic, not bringing any new elements to the table, but looking past this the large number of levels do offer a good challenge that is fairly well balanced.

That balance will vary depending on which unlocks/upgrades you acquire (you are free to choose what to spend your gems on), inevitably making some scenarios harder than others. I had two times (around 30% & 75%) where I needed to resort to grinding some upgrades to win the levels. As of the 1.0.11 patch, this grind has been alleviated by allowing better rewards on replaying levels. I was happy to see this change although it came a little late for my playthrough.

Defence to death

Defence to death

Definitely only worth picking up when it is a 1.00 or less…and ONLY if you are wanting the achievements and cards.

Although I think the ability to click (fast) on enemies to kill them, and click (fast) on the mine to get more currency to spend to build towers, are really great ideas, there are only 3 actual levels that are reused over and over, only 4 towers to build, and only 2 towers you will actually use. You earn money at the end of each level, that you can spend on 3 upgrades per tower.

It’s a pretty easy, but very boring grind.

Defence to Death is another lazy asset flip from Laush Studio. They’ve taken a basic Unity template for a TD game, changed around a few things, didn’t bother with polishing it or testing it much, and dumped it on Steam for a comical $6.

I’d go on about how asset flips are bad but this is just garbage. Everything is clunky, no support for higher resolution monitors, balancing the game was something developers had heard about and will probably think about doing one day maybe on their next game. It’s just trash.

[Free-to-Play] At the time of writing, this is a Free-to-play tower defense game, similar to plant vs zombies style where you place your defenders in a horizontal row and enemy will approach your castle. If they bypass your defenses, they will steal a crown; After 16 crowns have been stolen, it is game over

You will need blood (the in-game currency) to summon more defenders or to buy more rows and once a monster has been defeated, it will drop a heart; the heart is the currency and you have to click it fast or it will disappear

This a is great Table Top Tower Defense VR game…the best I have ever played! The Developers are very helpful as well, so we will look for more games from Dilly Frame in the future. I got hung up on 21 Wave, but the developers showed me the reason, and I was able to complete the game afterward. They still fix bugs in the game when you reveal them to the Developers. This game appears to be bug-free now, so it can be completed without issues.

Also, there is a lot of depth to this game, and it is well worth the full asking price. You can expect several hours of enjoyment before actually completing the game. Replay is also fantastic, because you have several achievements that you can go back to unlock. Superb game, guys! Keep them coming.

Tower Defense like it has to be!

With the old Version, Level 15 was challenging, but with last update, up to level 60, it is harder.

After 20 hours i’m happy that i’ve reached 54.

Yes it lags documentation but take it like another quest to figure out how all SIX towers work.

What it really lags is an undo. At least of the last move. Missclicking is really anoying.

Choose Dilemmas wisely, you only get 8:

3 void or panic

5 dread or doubt

7 heart or doom

9 magma or doubt

11 dread or mill

13 magma or doubt

I love to come across strategy games which are presented minimalistically - in both in gameplay and UI. I see this game shining with unlimited potential in the future of the Tower Defence genre. I really like the pricing strategy of the dev too. Buy this one soon!

PROS:

1. Properly minimal (if you like that). I mean, this game is pretty much the barebones essentials of a classic TD with a clever twist.

2. The Clever Twist: Mazing. There’s many strategies to win, and it helps if you can solve a maze by just looking at it.

Fiery Disaster

Fiery Disaster

Fiery Disaster is like a low effort 2D top down tower defence game, but without the towers, you just click near the enemies and try to hit them with your single defence gun (volcano, whatever).

This is pretty bad, the whole thing just doesn’t work. Play a proper tower defence game instead, Steam has hundreds of them.

At least the developers used an appropriate name for this “game”.

Real player with 38.9 hrs in game

I don’t think the creator of this game knows what tower defense is. This is not a tower defense game. I am also fairly certain this is not a strategy game in any way, I mean, shoot the guys coming at your gate is not a strategy, it is the only objective. Strategy implies there is more than one way to do a thing or choices to make in upgrades or something, this game has none of this. By level 3 the game is near unbeatable. Making a game hard for the sake of it is not adding substance or challenge, especially when there is only 1 thing you can do in the game, shoot lava at approaching villagers. I see now why this game is often 50 cents, still not worth it.

Milksoup

Milksoup

Milksoup is an FPS tower defense about a bunch of nerds trying to steal your cereal.

Movement is going to be your key to survival, as you strafe and B-hop throughout the surreal environments; The onslaught of trolls keep coming, your pockets slowly filling, and time running out. The longer you last, the more money you get to purchase tools that help you defend against the ever-increasing hoard. Watch out for the bosses - they interrupt the flow of nerds to introduce you to their machinery. They will try to stop you no matter what, so attempt to eliminate them as fast as possible.

If you ever want to take a breather, you’re able to enable the Sandbox mode and spawn, kill, and throw as many enemies as you want, along with a few more physics-based tools to mess around with. Currently, Sandbox mode can be played with friends online too.

Death Crown

Death Crown

This is a simple, yet fast paced, game that takes me back to retro game vibes.

The main thing that pulled me in was the style of cut-scenes.

The graphics, while all 2-D pixelated, are quite enticing.

The artwork is dark medieval, and the color schemes are variable.

You beat levels to earn diamonds, to spend on upgrades.

You can upgrade gold mines, defense towers, or troop barracks.

Gold mines earn gold, towers turret intruders, barracks spawn your army.

You place the three buildings across the grid, strategically, to gain territory.

I was on the edge fist, but this is actually an awesome space & resource centric RTS–the famous Z by the Bitmap Brothers comes to mind–but Death Crown is much more minimalistic.

The in-game graphics are unusual but cool looking, however, at times it’s a difficult to see certain things in the heat of the battle (esp. in the human campaign DLC which features a lot more terrain types).

It takes some time figuring out the minute details of the simple but not really intuitive controls but this is part of the game, I think. I really like the music (which is rare) and the black-and-white line art cut scenes. However, the story is a bit vague, and only shown not told.
