The Happy Little Virus

Disclaimer: A copy of this game was provided by the developer.

The Happy Little Virus is a top down shooter with dark humor.

You play as a virus and the objective in every level is to steal the data. Killing all the enemies isn’t required as you can sometimes rush around them. There are a total of 6 weapons to be unlocked, but only 3 of them end up being relevant due to their range and one of them sometimes bugs out. Some levels feature replicators that spawns other viruses that count as extra lifes if you die, they can be told to follow, stay or you can swap to them.

I got this game for free to show it to my community on stream. At first I was very skeptical however we had great fun. I have not played the complete game until the end so I cannot judge how the story would end and how many maps you would have to beat.

What to expect from the game?

A top down shooter with a cynical story plot and several details in text which could actually be out of real life if you think about it. You have to get used to the controls and it is certainly not a game where you can just rush through every map even if you are tempted to do that.

Star Control I and II

Star Control I and II

For starters, I have loved this game since playing it on my 3DO as a child, and being frustrated (along with my father and brother) because of the difficulty. I saw that this was on sale and bought it for nostalgic purposes, and to get a little bit of the beta for Origins. I started the first Star Conrol, and for its time, that was a fun game. Minus an alluring storyline and multiple outcomes of a vast galaxy when compared to the second, I keep that game for back up. Thrilled to start the second one again and delve into childhood wonderment and anguish I’m sure, I was beyond bummed to find out that the PC verson, even this UPDATED awesome steam launch, doesn’t have audio files for the characters and aliens you meet. . . . Huge bummer, I am praying that they get an update out there that ports over the amazing 3D0 voices, because it completely changes the games feel and narrative. Overall, still excited to get the chance to play this amazing game again, and discover all the races and hidden artifacts that my child mind was too ignorant to strive for. Recommend this game completely, but 3D0 OG’s, be prepared for a kick in the feels when that first Ur-Quan drone hails you.

While i don’t have much experience with StarControl1, like many i DO have experience with StarControl2!

In my opinion, not only SC is on the Top 5 Sci-Fi universes, but on the Top 10 of best games!

Now, StarControl is not for everybody, it’s very old for today’s standards, and it’s very clunky to play, the game is very Lore Based, there is Much talking and it can be VERY slow

But the game got Charm, a Cute but Dreary style shows an universe enslaved by a Cruel race, but also shows it has Beauty and Humor in it!

Lots of small but meaningful choices make it feel like I’m in control of my own fate. The combat feels very fair.

Congo

Congo

Having had a single and multiplayer experience, I’d have to say that Innocent Devils have managed to create a game that definitely requires team work, communication and organisation! Single player is like playing Permadeath, so it is ill advised, although MIGHT suggest room for some AI? Even one…

The enemies arrive in heavier hordes the further you progress, which means that the tension builds constantly, allowing you no room to relax, or feel comfortable even with your friends and 2 hands full of weaponry!

Congo:

It is pitch black and you are stranded in the middle of the Congolese jungle. You keep hearing noises coming from the bush and the foliage is cracking everywhere you look around. All you have going for you is a torch in one hand and a machete in the other hand!

Congo is an action/survival game where you can play by yourself, but it’s primary aim to play on a co-op basis with up to 3 of your mates. You will be able to play in two type of mods; defence or objective. The defence mod currently has 8 different locations and the aim is to make sure you do not lose your radio transmitter and to stay alive as long as you can. For the objective mod, well I guess you can figure this one out. Whatever you prefer to play, you will have to explore the jungle to find additional weapons, gizmos and tools either in crates or on the ground. You will always start with your machete but crates will get you access to revolvers, machines and submachine guns, shotgun, carabines and of course a limited amount of ammunition. Just a little tip for you, make sure you collect as many knives as you can. You will be pinned down to the ground by one of these demons and the only way to kill them went they are on top of you is to use a knife. Gps, flares (which scare the demons), fuel can, cutters and revive syringes (you can’t revive yourself, so this is only if you play as a party) are pretty much your gizmos and tools.

## Star Control®: Origins

I have broken this review into a few sections, because I feel like what you need to know depends on where you are coming from.

**You played Star Control 2, and liked it a lot?**

You should like this game. It basically follows the same formula in terms of story and gameplay, but with some welcome improvements, such as an automatic story log where you can review key details of past encounters, and a searchable star map with the ability to add your own bookmarks.

There are also some other subtle improvements. Enemy factions have more than one type of ship you will encounter, bringing added variety to combat. Your own allies will only provide one kind of ship, but your flagship can be equipped with a wide variety of different types of weapons and other abilities.

tl;dr; A beautiful and very funny adventure which is drowning in grindy, under- or mis-developed mechanics. [Verdict: 2/5]

=========================================

I have bought the game myself and completed it.

Let's list all the positives first:

- Very good art direction overall. Graphics, animations, aliens: all are very well done and a joy to look at.

- Good story. Nothing super-original, but good enough with some minor twists and turns.

- Interesting lore: using the main and also side quests there is a lot background information which enriches the world of this game.

You play as a cyborg specially developed as a SWAT unit. Engineers believe that you're the best of all cyborgs ever made. You have been sent to training facility to test if it is so. You will face simulated hordes of enemies that you must destroy and show best result possible.

Upgrade your weapons and abilities as you progress through the game to reach the highest score possible. Make use of environment and develop your own strategy at staying dominant on the map for as long as possible.

## VR UAV Attack

Have you ever wanted to fly a UAV and commence an attack on enemy grounds? Make life and death decisions at the pull of a trigger? Well if you have this is not the app for you. ‘VR UAV Attack’ sees you with a static drone launching unlimited missiles on a non-attacking static airbase what I presume is supposed to be the enemy. There is no skill needed here, there is only one level and it is impossible for me to find any reason to recommend this. It might only cost pennies, but you get far less in terms of quality and content. My only hope is that a real drone shoots this game down so it vanishes from the Steam store.

## Bot Vice

The more I play this game, the more I enjoy it. Make no mistake, this is old school gaming at its core. Meaning no mercy. You learn through your many mistakes. And somehow you get better. You finally beat the game. But you look back and think you can do better. So you play it again, hoping to get even better.

For the love of god, use a controller. Friends don't let friends use keyboard for this game. That being said, the controls take some time getting used to. You will probably be spending a good amount of time stumbling with the controls before it feels right, however long it takes. Targetting will always feel somewhat off, but somehow, like everything else in the game, it somehow works out.

I didn't like it, not because of the difficulty -I actually found it interesting that you have to move out of your comfort zone and learn a different moveset. No, I didn't like it because it's just not very enjoyable.

First, let's be clear: the casual players should just go on their way because this game is not for them. The fact that there is less than 10% players with the "finish the game" achievement should be telling. Once you get past half the game you'll start to have good feelings with the gameplay, but it will be too late for most players and there is just too much bs to go through.

## Radio Viscera

This is a very tentative thumbs up because the game is decent fun, but it's marred by technical issues (walls with no collision detection, sound bugs, black frames) and a couple gameplay flaws (the camera). Here's hoping future patches address some of these concerns.

If you're using doors instead of blasting through walls, you're doing it wrong. It's a nice take on a twin stick shooter where you can't kill or defeat things by shooting at them, but instead shooting them *into* things.

I love all the glitchy visual effects. Game is very light on story and humour is definitely very weird, but I'm liking it so far.
