Balcony

Balcony

Given such a low price, this game pleasantly exceeded my expectation! If you are a fan of Overcooked, the Balcony is an excellent new take where you need to go through obstacles and puzzles under time limit to deliver items and party with your friends. For an indie game, each stage feels well-designed and filled with creativity. I really love the dinosaur at the end! Overall a recommend!

Garetto is a basic Unity asset/template/tutorial flip for an endless runner/physics collision game where you roll a green ball around and avoid obstacles.

The best part about this “game” is that it doesn’t launch properly, so everyone is spared the horror and discomfort of actually having to play it.

I can’t recommend Unity asset flips that don’t even work.

Laser Burst

Laser Burst

last time I checked, there were about 5 billion laser-redirecting puzzlers in existence, but laser burst is definitely one of the better ones.

the goal, predictably, is to pop all the balloons by placing mirrors facing the right way. left click puts a mirror on a valid tile, right click rotates it before it’s placed, so make sure it’s facing the right way first. mirrors can’t be removed, so basically there’s no undo, but it’s a non-issue, most levels are pretty short anyway. I found it weird that the laser automatically fires after every placed mirror, but it’s often necessary to clear balloons out of the way and make room for more mirrors.

Starts out simple and engages the brain by level 6 or 7. Did around 20 levels in the first hour but not all to 3 stripes. Need to revisit some, lol. The slow introduction of new things was a nice progression reward. The later levels will definitely get you thinking! Would also be a great gift for someone who likes puzzles.

Strike Team Gladius

Strike Team Gladius

Strike Team Gladius is a typical Wave Light game, and in my book that’s a good thing. The story serves as the framework for the game campaign’s 40 combat missions, so it’s all about building a team and tactical combat. Finishing the campaign twice took me about 100 hours.

There are 12 different classes, each with a male and a female version. They all have different stats, skills and abilities. You choose 6 of them and off you go. After each mission your units get EXP points and after roughly 5 missions they get an upgrade - if you can keep them alive, that is.

Update:

The game has improved tremendously in early access and a lot of the rough edges have been removed. And the difficulty curve has been mostly smoothed out. A tutorial has also been added that helps quite a bit in getting the player oriented. Two new classes (exo armor troopers) were also added an are a lot of fun! And now it is out of early access!

Definitely recommended for fans of tactical turn based games!

Original Review:

Strike Team Gladius is a solid squad based strategy game by WaveLight games. Your 6 squad members will fight aliens in a variety of outdoor environments, with a large variety of allies and enemies. It is currently in early access and has some rough edges, but progress has been fast on sanding them down. Definitely worth a buy if you are a squad based strategy fan!

Sokoban with a twist.

A nice little 2D puzzle game, presented in 3D.

Think Sokoban, but where crates are two spaces and can stand diagonally.

Difficulty starts out nicely, but eventually some levels are harder to complete at all, than to find the shortest path.

In general, levels are fun and challenging to play.

The music isn’t worth mentioning, and becomes annoying, so I turned it off after a short while.

The game doesn’t remember if you turn off the music or prefer to play full screen, so you have to toggle it each time you play.

Just fantastic. Has some great puzzles.

My favorite part of this game is planning out your best route, proceeding down it, and then running out of moves while only being 1 move away from completing the level. At this point you can look at the level and think creatively to see what avenue you missed. Restarting a level is done by the press of a button and then trying new paths to complete levels is quite satisfying!
