Theseus - Mythological Hero

Theseus - Mythological Hero

Broken mechanics, invisible walls, and a terribly designed maze with awful lighting plague this asset reliant mess of a game.

It’s just BAD. Nothing more needs to be said. Watch part of my first impressions review video if you need more about it.

NOT RECOMMENDED, even if it were free, I’d tell you to stay far away.

It runs terribly and looks awful.

For a solo development, it is pretty cool but as a game that I paid $$ for, it is a failure.

Take this over to itch.io for some help and feedback.

Overlord™ Review

Overlording awaits sire… The fields are planted; peasants are cowering in fear, all in anticipation of your arrival…

Some key points that this game offers:

  1. Dark humour

  2. RPG like no other…

  3. Hordes of minions at your disposal.

  4. Magic, mayhem and chaos.

  5. A Tale of revenge, justice and general enemy bashing.

Gameplay & Controls:

The controls are quite simple, you can use a controller or your keyboard and mouse, the game however offers only partial controller support for the PC version. The keyboard and mouse are both used for gameplay with the mouse acting as your eyes, pointing in the way you want to look and go. The LFM used to send your minions out, and the RMB to call them back, holding both of them down you sweep your minions in the direction you want them to go. The mouse wheel can be used to scroll through your different minion types, and the numbers above the alphabetical keys.

Overlord is a deep game with even deeper nostalgic connections but so sadly overlooked even by myself for the longest time. If you’re looking for an old game that still lives up to standards today, or if you just want a basic RPG collectathon that you can occupy yourself for hours with, at the price it is Overlord will meet every expectation and hope you could ever wish for. I couldn’t recommend this more, this is one incredible, criminally underrated RPG you don’t want to miss.

This game had it’s 10th birthday this year, I only played it for the first time a few years back and have made it my yearly tradition to come back around this time of year (October - December) to replay Overlord + Raising hell. I got this game years prior in a bundle of some kind for about 90p/just over $1. After neglecting to play it for ages I finally got round to it and for that amount of money it blew my mind - even for the average price it is on here now (£3.50) it’s an absolute steal.

Enclave

Enclave

Full Disclosure I have so many hours in this game because I have been speedrunning it for 6 years. I’ve made several videos about this game as well. If you have ANY questions about the game at all, even technical, reach out to me and I will have an answer. This game is basically my adopted child at this point, so this review IS BIASED.

What a Terrible Game

Enclave is still totally beautiful. This hack and slash Action RPG was ahead of its time when it originally released in 2002. Starbreeze had a great engine, and a great team working on it. The level design is fantastic and non-linear, so there’s a lot of depth to the levels, and you’ll get lost exploring the engaging scenery and all the twists and turns of wherever the world can take you. There’s 2 campaigns with a combined 31 levels total to go through (including bonus levels). The music is phenomenal and smoothly transitions based on if you are in combat or not. The game uses a money progression system in lieu of RPG levels so you can afford better equipment on future levels to deal more damage and take less. Finding the money is a hunt and one of the main challenges. If you find all 13,000 gold, you unlock a chick with a Rocket Launcher.

Enclave is a third person hack and slash game from 2002 (ported to PC in 2003). Back then there was, of course, no Dark Souls, the closest games would be Rune (2000) and Severance: Blade of Darkness (2001). And older folks might even remember titles such as Die by the Sword (1998) and Dark Vengeance (1998).

The game features 2 different campaigns (good guys and bad guys), each with its own levels and characters. There’s a total of 12 characters, 6 per campaign, but they’re all essentially variations of only 3 archetypes: warrior, archer, mage. The game has no real RPG elements, you don’t level up and don’t have an inventory etc. You just choose your loadout with available gold before a mission and that’s it.

Gedonia

For one, the developer really cares about this game and it’s still being updated. Two, currently it’s on sale and it’s definitely worth more than what it is, even normal price. If you want a fresh Indie RPG with a nostalgic feeling, character customization, and open world; this it it. Will update my review in the future.

::Update::

Still playing and it’s amazing. Finally got to building my house, it’s a bit quirky with the editing and camera controls, but it will only get better. I haven’t even touched Dungeon mode which has an increased level cap compared to Open World, so if you’re into Dungeon Crawlers; well this has a mode just for you.

Some people are be nostalgic for the 8 and 16 bit era, and there are a ton of Metroidvania and platforming games shoveled onto PC and propped up by paid reviews. Gedonia is something else, and it made me so happy. Rather than the more common rip on the Genesis, Gedonia is like a lost gem from the original X-Box era, in the realms of Galleon or Kameo. There are a lot of simplified, modern touches, but the purity of the game and fantasy genre is endearing. It’s like finding out there was a 3D Zelda game you missed, gameplay wise.

Pro.

interesting game

Even tho i did not expect too much from it, i was actually amazingly pleased.

I started played and it kept me hooked for a while

The take is quite uniqe as the setting and all

Cons

A little lagish sometimes given that i have a quite good pc

I hate the right click mouse control. if you could add like a mouse centered movement where i dont have to right click to move the image it would be awesome.

I actually recommend it. its not a bad game given that it came from a single man team development but there are many ways that you can actually improve this game. I recommend buying it as its a quite nice small game and it will keep u occupied for a while. i’m planning on finishing the story soon.

Mars: War Logs

Mars: War Logs

TLDR

Mars: War Logs is one of those gems that lurks behind “A” titles, just waiting to shine. Very much like Mad Max or WoW in playability, tactics, NPC aggro proc, and utility of various game strategies, the GUI will be familiar to anyone who has played a 3rd person and the particulars are not complicated; you can also change keybinds for fine-tuning. The detailed plot can go in at least three different major directions near the end, and choices determine results on several questlines, but the first two chapters will be very similar/same for any given playthrough. First playthrough on"normal" difficulty was challenging to learn but not difficult, and my second on “difficult” wasn’t too bad

! (except for the Moles in 2 particular encounters)… but “Extreme” has me stumped. There must be a build order that I haven’t identified correctly… yet.

Single-player action RPG with 3rd person view, in the sci-fi setting. Very story-driven, which means NO for the open-world experience. But there is none good tale as well. Just a decent action part in a narrow tunnel of somewhat “noir” agenda. In truth, the game isn’t all bad, it’s just plain and mediocre. But I’m freaked out by how it is presenting itself there on Steam: “An Intense Cyberpunk Rpg On the Red Planet!” While it is really telling about humans on the fourth planet, it is as far from cyberpunk, like me from being a wealthy man. And “Intense” means it is very short and linear. Not a good point to present for decent “story-rich” RPG, you agree?

Two Worlds Epic Edition

Two Worlds Epic Edition

two worlds has become one of my favorite games ever, and no one is more surprised than me. first of all, I didn’t start playing fantasy rpgs until a few years ago, they always looked too generic and boring, plus I really hated everything, and I mean everything, about the two worlds demo. but thankfully I gave it another shot and had a ton of fun playing it.

it’s not a perfect game by any means, but also very far from the trainwreck a lot of reviews make it out to be. the graphics still hold up, the viewing distance is really amazing, you can see stuff in the distance from really far away (yet grass seems to grow under your feet, which is one of the very few complaints I have). the music’s great too and the voice acting falls into the so-bad-it’s-hilarious category. it was grating at first but became entertaining soon, the over the top usage of ‘olde english’, the protagonist’s sarcastic remarks and taunts like ‘say hello to death!’ or ‘they look like my in-laws’.

Well, after playing quite a lot and still playing I decided to recommend this game, at least to rpg funs. I am saying this because with a ton of games available today and so many on sale offers, one may easily abandon a game and go for another.

Why I like this game? It is addictive. It keeps you playing for its advantages regardless its flaws. I have a lot of games, games I go back playing like skyrim, games I do not stop until I complete them like shadow of Mordor and games I never start playing yet. Too many games, too few time. Still, two worlds is a game that I start and did not abandon nor I will anytime soon. This game has something strangely addictive. For example I abandon dark souls about mid game while been an excellent game but I am now mid-game at two worlds and I hardy spent this little time to write this, right now I prefer to enter the game and continue.

Very flawed, but still a fantastic game.

  • Amazing quests. The writting is great. Tons of variety and they always come with interesting stories.

  • Amazing music, tons of beautiful and epic tracks.

  • Great level design, not everything is good, but when it’s good it is very good. Beautiful sightseeings and huge locations to explore.

  • Great explorarion. The world is very explorable with tons of optional areas to explore.

  • Oculus. Kind of like noclip mode.

  • The days are long the nights are short in Savannah. They are equally long in other regions.

Going to be completely honest here, this is one of those games where you have to put time into it to see that it’s a hidden gem buried under a bad reputation.

I can tell you right off the bat, the voice acting in this game is semi-lame, the dialogue is semi-cheesy, the running animations look like your character has a damn dldo in his buttcheeks, and I’m not trying to hate on it nor am I trying to be funny, it really does lol. The camera also seems to be a little motion-sickness inducing for some but personally it doesn’t bother me, this is coming from someone that gets motion sickness very easily in car rides, and a tiny bit in VR. HOWEVER, as a fan of The Elder Scrolls series and open world games in general who has put hundreds of hours into Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, I can tell you that this game is like a poor mans version of those games but in 3rd person……. and it does a surprisingly good job. It’s nowhere near as bad as the first one was, though the first one is really fun if you give it a little time, it’ll catch you off guard. I think the biggest thing that hurt the first game was that the voice acting was absolute dog sht to the point it almost felt deliberately comical, and the animations were like staring at a flip book, literally.

ArcaniA

ArcaniA

I have a mixed feelings about this game. Certainly its Gothic game only by its name (sure there are monsters which look like exactly from Gothic series and they are named the same like the infamous meatbug for an example).

There is not skill system like they have in example Gothic 1 and 2. When you advance level you get 3 points where you can put into your so called skills such as Mettle, Discipline or Vigour skill lines. Each of these raise your stats in a different ways. Example if you put skill points into Precision skill line you raise your ranged power and mana by 1% every point you add (and when you put enough points into the skill lines you receive abilities such as steady hand which smoothers your aiming so it does not shake so much).

I waited I do not know how many years before playing Arcania. I remember I bought Arcania in the collector’s edition box, but I have never had a powerful enough PC to play it.

Finally, I was able to play it and finish it and I can say that Arcania is one of the worst sequels for a game ever. It is not just a saying, I really mean that. The whole story about the old hero, now possessed by a demon, and the new hero is just the transposition of the “bad” PiranhaBytes that did not join project Arcania and the new developers’ team. New hero, I have bad news for you: you suck.
