#SelfieTennis

It is very difficult to describe this game in English words…

Why you ask?

You’re a selfie taking unicorn on a floating tennis court in the middle of the sky, with randomly appearing creatures with tennis balls for heads, and clouds for sportswear. When you kill them, they turn into hearts. Kill those hearts, and they turn into more hearts. You can then kill those new hearts to earn some unlockables. Meanwhile, while all this is going on, you play tennis…by yourself!

I know that’s a lot to take in, but below you will find my more in depth review:

If you like pointless, and obscure, fun. I reckon you’ll like this.

Updated April 2020:

I still sometimes go back to this game even after a couple of years. There’s something relaxingly satisfying about it.

I do still wish the devs would find a solution for a ‘fast’ swing passing through the ball. It’s definitely possible to solve, but in the current state you just have to get used to it.

My last comment (and I really do hate myself for saying this), I think the game would be amazing with a friend. I know, I know… I just do. Having 2 (or even 4) people in a game I think would actually be quite fun. Tennis, but not taken too serious. Like being a kid again.

This game is not meant to be serious like the Virtua Tennis series. This is a nice arcade style tennis game with lots of character customization and fun mini games. I haven't tried the multiplayer yet but soon I will. The game wasn't easy for me at first but it got interesting once I got the Hang of it. There is nothing much to say about graphics and there are no extra options for graphics other than changing the resolution. Overall I'd recommend only if you are a fan of tennis games.

Update 2:

I have not owned a VR headset for over a year, so I can’t keep track of the game. The developer does seem active with the community.

If you like tennis, you should support it because as far as I know there are no other VR tennis games that are better.

Update:

After having a chat with the developer, I still can’t recommend the game, but there are some points that are important:

  • It’s a hobby project, not created to make money and that’s fantastic. The developer him/herself is a professional tennis player.

I am playing this with Oculus 2, from steam running on msi laptop with ndvia rtx2060, and wifi connection with honor 6 plus rooter. The game runs smoothly. Initially I had weaker rooter and wifi issues were creating the lag but after replacing it to honor it is fine.

The game is definitely fun! It is realistic in the sense that it definitely engages body into moves requiring some basic tennis fundamentals. It also provides good environment to observe ones own execution of the strikes e.g. serve, forehand, backhand … during training with tennis machine, training match or on tour. This is quite fun because the pressure is only created by me and whatever I do works only for feedback (feel of the game or scores). I started to play this at the end of winter with the arcade mode and automatic running, which was fun especially when beating players on tour but too forgiving and it ruined my real life serve and backhand. The ball hit the net constantly when I returned to courts. Due to muscle memory vr it took me a couple of real world training sessions and games to get it back to normal. During summer I did not play this at all as there was plenty of opportunities to play outdoors either the tennis ball machine or with friends. In Finland the summer is over now and I tried the vr game again today, in simulation mode and automatic running. In this vr setting I was pretty bad but if I relax and try to apply right fundamentals into the strikes then its getting better…. I consider this a good sign and I am curios what effect vr tennis simulator would have on my technique now. Let see after playing real tennis with friends. Unfortunately I have limited space usually 2x3m, max 3x4m, so I haven’t tried the real tennis court scale running. Though I am glad there is this option and I look forward to try that soon. In summary, I recommend the tennis simulator because it is definitely fun, reasonably realistic and gives moderate workout. Although it requires quite an investment if you need to buy good gaming pc … On the other hand it serves as an alternative workout without need to pay for indoor tennis courts. From my experience this tennis simulator with possibility to play it in vr is definitely more fun than vr boxing or dancing.

I really enjoy the game: true tennis in every aspects!

I’ve been playing tennis elbow for some years now and FA brought what i was missing in TE!

Gameplay: 9/10 [ I leave one point for improvements ]

In addition, the game is evolving pretty fast thanks to developers that ask for feedback.

What I miss is player-specific motions, but it will be available at some point… modders do a great job already providing nice courts, player names and player-specific grunts.

I recommend this game to anyone loving tennis, they’ll be satisfied even though it is really hard in the beginning (couldn’t score a game in the lowest difficulty settings) but highly satisfying as you improve (and i played only ~20hrs).

Hands down, the greatest tennis video game ever made if you’re into gameplay realism (And yes that includes tennis elbow which is also great). Virtua Tennis, or even Top Spin this is not. The initial learning curve is high. I would turn everything down to the lowest difficulty sliders at first, obviously play the tutorials, then have a hit in practice mode before even stepping out on court. Most people will initially struggle to win points at first but once it starts clicking, you will realise why I and many others call this the most realistic and fun tennis game of all time. You will have points that look like television and it’s awesome if you’re a tennis fan.

Tennis Elbow 2013

Tennis Elbow 2013

Been playing the Tennis Elbow series since TE2009 and have more than a 1000 hours plugged into TE2013.

During my time of playing TE2013 I’ve played through Virtua Tennis 3 and 4 and 4WT. Smash Court Tennis 3 and Top Spin 3/4. What makes TE2013 so appealing over the years is the gameplay. It is hands down the best gameplay of any tennis game.

The controls are the best of any tennis game because you are actually able to dictate the spin, the height, the depth and the power of the ball accurately and this is one of the only games that understands the physics of tennis and understand that ball can go anywhere and anything can happen in a rally. There’s no predeterminted calculations of where the ball is going to go, it’s not going to end up in the same places, there’s actual variety presented in the shot you play and how you react to an incoming shot. You can’t stand 5 feet inside the baseline and expect to blast winners into each corner with 100% consistency. It follows the semantics of real life tennis so accurately that rallies look authentic.

EDIT : I’ll keep updating the review whenever i remember a good or bad point. I’m adding neutral points (it may be a pro or a con depending on the situation and your preference).

First of all, my steam hours is not true. I brought this game years back on the mana games site and I played like 1000+ hours.

Tennis Elbow 2013 is a tennis simulation game devoloped by mana games. It has character custamization which can be compared to a RPG game. It has a very deep learning curve unlike anyother tennis game, so dont execpt to hit amazing winners and win in the first few hours. every stroke matters, the way you position matters, whether you hold down the strike button or not matters. I’l l tell you one thing, when you create that angle from the right side corner of the court to the left end corner of the court for an animalaistic winner….its AWESOME.

Tennis in the Face

Tennis in the Face

Tennis in the Face is a fun physics based game where you serve a tennis ball and attempt to hit people / targets to clear the stage. The game is setup similar to Angry Birds where the stages you beat can be re-played until they are perfected. The cartoon graphics are extremely well done and it is great to see a video game puzzler that uses tennis as the theme. The story was very comical and made me laugh many times as you control a disgruntled pro tennis player on a rampage to destroy a mega energy drink company. I had previously owned this game on PS3 and Vita but was happy to pick up a 3rd copy to play on the PC. It is very fun and rewarding being able to serve tennis balls into another person’s face. This game is the perfect stress reliever for any tennis enthusiast.

Tennis in the Face is a really fun game, reminiscent the game angry birds, only that this is the most “insane” and fun.

The difficulty of the game is getting all the crowns, managing to strike all opponents throwing less balls as possible!

There are over 100 levels, and each differs from the other, it is actually a real MUST.

If you want to play a game done right, that manages to entertain buy it now!

And beware the factory Explodz :D

I like the concept, but definitely not as “addicting” as I thought it’d be. Honestly, it gets boring after a couple of games anyway. And there’s no achievements, so not like I could really brag about much by unlocking things.

Anyways, the game is actually broken as hell. Like actually. The game literally never gives you points, and will often award them to your opponent instead. Well, I’ve had 3 or 4 instances where it does give you those points, but it’s REALLY rare (and one of those times was where I hit the ball OUT, keep in mind). And also it’s generally really easy to hit the ball out straight away via a serve, it sucks.

I’ve probably put about 1000 hours into Tennis Elbow (another tennis game) over years and years, I’ve played about every tennis game out there on every system, NES, SNES, N64, Playstation, Gamecube, Wii, you name it.

I’ll preface this with saying I like to only play tennis games single player.

This is a very solid tennis game, however it has a big flaw once you get deeper into it, and that is that it gets too easy, especially on World Tour mode as you level up your character. I do have a suggestion to those playing it once you get much better at the game. You level up your World Tour character to about 75 on every stat. That should keep it difficult enough in where you can barely win tournaments and make it feel like you really have to work hard to win.

  • lag (if you use wireless xbox controller - maybe not the developers' fault)

  • you can see the crosshair on the ground in the tutorial

but you can’t turn on in options

  • there is no music, only one

  • there is no coop campaign

  • I found a game breaking bug (AI stop)

  • I only used the flat hit button, that was enough

  • Blast modes are interesting but without campaign, so much wasted potential

  • World Tour campaign

  • good gameplay mechanics

  • character customization is good, so many options

  • good idea in menu: ‘always down’

Tennis Elbow 4

Tennis Elbow 4

Very well done tennis game and an improvement over the previous installments (TEM2 and TE2013). Although still in early access, and likely to remain there for a while since this is a one-man operation, it still gives other tennis games with a much larger budget a run for their money. Obvious issues include lack of animations, low quality ball, crowd, and grunt sounds, few character cosmetic customization options, and overall presentation being somewhat weak when compared to the triple-A variants. But what this game has over all of those expensive competitors is a very active dev who responds to community concerns and basically works around the clock to fix issues in the game. The difficulty settings range from way too easy to realistic to the AI is a god mode, with varying strategies and player archetypes which is a major contrast to some of the other tennis games available where the AI only ever strikes from the baseline and never approaches for any reason. This gives TE4 replay value far beyond its competitors. You can play in career mode against the serve and volley era of the 80s all the way through to the baseline sluggers of today. You can start from the humble ranks as a 1000 and work your way up to the top, or craft your tennis prodigy all the way from youth as a 13 year old junior. This game honestly has it all despite its graphics. 10/10

Set to become THE Tennis Game

Even in the Early Access stage this game is impressive. It captures the intensity of tennis in the most positive way.

From the first versions it has seen quite a lot of improvements. Especially, the backhand shots which felt strange as soon as the game came out. Most shots landing short and with little top spin.

Animations look good for the most part. For the time being (v. 0.43 SubBuild 2021.7.10) the only exception would be the volleys, which look and feel kind of odd. I’m pretty sure all the animations will be amazing once the game releases and the modding community embraces the game. Something which has made its predecessor, TE2013, so awesome.
