Desert Thunder

Desert Thunder

This looks and feels like a budget title. It’s not great, but you’re likely to enjoy while it lasts (which isn’t long).

This is an arcade action game, not a simulation, as proclaimed in the description.. It reminded me a little of the 2001 remake of Combat, released a couple of years earlier. Whereas that fully embraced its arcade nature, Desert Thunder takes place in a more realistic setting and maintains a SOMEWHAT more realistic feel. I would argue this diminishes replayability and overall fun factor. The games keep things moving pretty fast, slowed down just a lttle so you remember you’re controlling a tank.

Desert Thunder is an arcade tank game that will not interest many people. The software suffering from several gameplay bugs, we will very often rail against the commands, the lifespan being average we will complain about the speed with which the game ends and the set being ultimately of no great interest, we will really wonder why we spent a handful of money to buy this title.

Graphics: 4.5/10

A desert-like graphic environment through which dunes, cities, refineries or airports follow one another, a few enemies, a slightly overpowered physics of the soldiers, several effects of explosion and tanks or planes to fight. Still, the whole is average and without real flavor.

So let’s start off by saying that yes. I do play this game a lot. I’ve played it quite a bit in fact. But can I recommend it? Ehhhhh…. no.

See, the developers have made a great system for this sort of game. I wish more games would use it. It’s a bit unrealistic, but that’s honestly okay, it plays well with it. I have to give them props for that.

However.

What I can’t give them props for is quality assurance, general professionalism(There was a major content delay because they forgot to fork their build. FORGOT. And overwrote their work), and what appears to be a roadmap designed for maximizing profit, rather than fixing the countless issues that still persist with the game.

I really, really, really like the game. BUT, I just wanna take a little walk through and talk about what’s going on in the game.

They’re doing good work, making updates regularly and keeping people up to date with what’s happening in the development cycle. The thing that really sets me off with the current game is that they’re already trying to push DLC. I understand that they want to make money, but at the same time the base game needs to be in a more acceptable state before they should try to push for DLC’s. There are a lot of issues within the base game that need to be addressed such as, Performance within the garage itself can get pretty rough, especially if you have multiple project vehicles in at the same time(Keep in mind my computer isn’t a slouch by any means, AMD 5800x processor, 16gigs of Crucial Ballistix’s 3600Mhz ram, and an rtx2060, granted not the highest end pc in the world.), the menus are pretty clunky and need to be reworked into a more user friendly state. Tank extractions can be frustrating between not being able to find the vehicle through the basic means the game starts you off with and occasionally you aren’t able to extract the vehicle at all. The maintenance system has gotten better, but it needs a lot of work, the system needs to be streamlined and ease of access while putting tanks together needs to be more comfortable to work with instead of awkwardly clicking around on the screen trying to access certain parts. Some tank models being reworked have been worked on for what feels like months without any update to them in the live version of the game, but they’re working on new models instead.

Okay, I decied to write a short review on this game.

Currently the game is only 1,24 Euro, and after a few days the game goes back to its original 5 E.

I’m writing this down because the price is definitely a big plus. As of the game itself, you will probably like it if you’re into tanks and/or simulators. I am. Overall, I am quite pleased with the game. However, this is heavily influenced by its price. For 1,2 Euro, it’s a great deal. For 5 Euro, I’m not really sure. You decide.

Pros:

+Terrain can be deformed (craters after explosions, you can dig tank trenches [UBER COOL] etc)

Bought this game just to write a review. I am a veteran of this game. It was my first shooter. If i can remember correctly i got this game near the end of 2005/begining of 2006. The name was still T-72 Balkans on Fire.

I could master this game 11/12 years ago, I was a little kid back then. Because of this game i’ve started loving the tanks. I have played WoT, WarThunder and other games with tanks. But those arent real. You just move with WASD, and usually you just shoot where your mouse is.

Here, you have 4 types of shells - BPS (armor piercing), OFS (fragmentation shell), BKS (High explosive) and UR (Guided missile).

This is where i learned what happens if you send 4 goons in tanks to fight skynet.

I dig tanks.

I started digging VR.

I deff dig this.

The trailer looks really uninteresting, while the game itself however just pulls you the fuck in.

Usually it’s the opposite when it comes to games that Trailers looks more impressive.

I bought the game with low expectations, but i can really dig this, it’s a actual VR game i come back to, other VR games last like a few hours, 2nd day in however and i hit 11 hours.

Battlezone is a solid, fun game. It looks great, runs smooth, doesn’t have significant bugs. It’s seated VR, you control your tank with gamepad. Gamepad controls work great and feel responsive and accurate enough.

The unlock progression doesn’t feel like a grind. The unlockable tanks offer mostly specialization, so they’re not required. Weapon unlocks aren’t random, they unlock based on secondary mission objectives or achievements listed in the arsenal. Weapons require varying amounts of skill to use, but not overly much so. None of the weapons feel useless, while each having a specific use case where they’re the most effective. Likewise for the special abilities, it only takes a short while to learn knowing how it works and when to use it, but then they’re all useful.

Tank Universal 2

Tank Universal 2

Excellent, engaging game with a truly disappointing ending. I thought maybe it was still in early access? But it’s supposedly finished. There is no boss fight. You meet the boss, then…no fight. A cutscene with a deus ex machina where the boss, the big bad who was built up as unstoppable over the course of two games, is defeated instantly and effortlessly with no action from the player.

This also makes the blue army’s capture of the Revelation pointless, as it’s never used. It disintegrates on the way to the final level. That is awful story telling. It would’ve been narratively correct to have a boss fight, where you and your blue allies fight to a point of stalemate and seem like you’re going to lose, before the Revelation comes to your aid in your darkest hour, delivering the finishing blow.

When i came across Tank universal 1 when i was only 12 years old or so back when it was a demo on Wild Tanget. my young mind was blown away as to how cool the game was, i never got to finish it back when i was little as i said it was a demo game. and since i had always had trouble convincing my parents about what games i wanted and the fact that they cost money always made them stingy at droping a few bucks for them.

Now i am in my young adult hood in my early 20’s and now that i have a little more financial freedom i bought both this game and its predicessor, and my eyes once again teamed with excitment when i saw these same old games i never got to finish on steam. and after buying both and finishing both i can summerize why i recommend this game.

Tanks: The Crusades

This is the greatest Game ever released. The graphics quality and scaling is flawless and there are no glitches. The game is still officially supported by the dev and gets regular updates. Can’t wait for official world wide multiplayer. Better than any other Tank game I’ve ever played.

I got some ideas.

1.Add fog.

2.Add more generation options like:

-how large the world should be. Large, mendium, small.

-what type of blocks should be generated.(this is hard to code it ngl).

3.Multiplayer options:

-bullet travel speed

-mine explosion time

-tank speed

And i hope for some bugfixes. I found one, when you teleport and mine is planted close to teleport, mine explodes too early and dealing no dmg to tank.

I hope you will read this and please don’t feel offended.

Sorry for bad english.

Ok yes, it looks like a phone game and yes I’ve only spent 30 minutes or so in it playing against AI bots. It is kind of fun though, would be great at a VR arcade against others or if you just happen to have a Vive, Rift, psvr and a gear lying around to play each other.

As the major downfall of this game is no online multiplayer, it would be a great cross-platform online game if only it had online multiplayer.

The tank controls are fun, drive out of the turret with two levers like a tank. The turret and gun are aligned with the HMD so where you look the turret turns. Works well in battles and the maps are CTF with about 3 or 4 different settings. There are achievements and powerups and graphically good for what it is, that out of ammo type visuals.

First Impression - It’s fun and seems to be well worth $10. It reminds me of a Team Fortress version of World of Tanks. Will update review as I play more.

Tank Firing

Tank Firing

When shooting, you should calibrate the shooting distance and pay attention to the weak points.

In case of armor that cannot be penetrated by armour piercing projectile, high explosive projectile can be tried.

When being hit, you should set a certain angle to improve the equivalent armor.

When encountering the shell which cannot be defended by armor, you can look for shelter.

Try to challenge the single enemy and evacuate when besieged.

Get on your tank and join the fight!

Played this game toward the end. I can say that is fun and enjoyable. It feel like the description said about 16 bit retro style. The game have in-game four types of update airstrike, time, shield and 1 hit. Each update will require some exact amount of points to use it each. Only one update per level can be used. You can try play past round to gain points. It have replay last game option.

For those who is his first time like me playing this type of game will force you to trying maximing your mind skills. Once you spend enough time you’ll find it much easier. Don’t get me wrong the game will eventually turns to more interesting. I noticed that in the menu it don’t have some option setup to optimal resolution like 1920 x 1080 or such but doesn’t matter when the game looks good enough to play it in any resolution. The ambient is fresh and run smooth. It took me 3 hours and half to finish but with more practice probably in 2. I would like to play this game again because it challenge you to do it better between level and level. Of course you’ll need to be smart and very quick with both tanks. I can rate this game like 10 because looks good, gave me zero problem(maybe some very small slight), nice music and because i learned the maneuverability of point and click.

This a tough game for an old gamer like me ,maybe i’ve got used to too many scripted AAA games .

I really liked the background audio and sound effects ,gives the game a good atmosphere.

I took me a while to figure out how to move correctly , i was using my mouse to click on my tank and then moving it.

I was thinking why can’t i just click on the screen to move to a point.

But you can select your tank with the Z key which makes it easier.

The game starts up in a low res screen and you can click on the icon in the top left to go to windowed mode.
