Tank Mechanic Simulator

Tank Mechanic Simulator

So let’s start off by saying that yes. I do play this game a lot. I’ve played it quite a bit in fact. But can I recommend it? Ehhhhh…. no.

See, the developers have made a great system for this sort of game. I wish more games would use it. It’s a bit unrealistic, but that’s honestly okay, it plays well with it. I have to give them props for that.

However.

What I can’t give them props for is quality assurance, general professionalism(There was a major content delay because they forgot to fork their build. FORGOT. And overwrote their work), and what appears to be a roadmap designed for maximizing profit, rather than fixing the countless issues that still persist with the game.

I really, really, really like the game. BUT, I just wanna take a little walk through and talk about what’s going on in the game.

They’re doing good work, making updates regularly and keeping people up to date with what’s happening in the development cycle. The thing that really sets me off with the current game is that they’re already trying to push DLC. I understand that they want to make money, but at the same time the base game needs to be in a more acceptable state before they should try to push for DLC’s. There are a lot of issues within the base game that need to be addressed such as, Performance within the garage itself can get pretty rough, especially if you have multiple project vehicles in at the same time(Keep in mind my computer isn’t a slouch by any means, AMD 5800x processor, 16gigs of Crucial Ballistix’s 3600Mhz ram, and an rtx2060, granted not the highest end pc in the world.), the menus are pretty clunky and need to be reworked into a more user friendly state. Tank extractions can be frustrating between not being able to find the vehicle through the basic means the game starts you off with and occasionally you aren’t able to extract the vehicle at all. The maintenance system has gotten better, but it needs a lot of work, the system needs to be streamlined and ease of access while putting tanks together needs to be more comfortable to work with instead of awkwardly clicking around on the screen trying to access certain parts. Some tank models being reworked have been worked on for what feels like months without any update to them in the live version of the game, but they’re working on new models instead.

Steel Armor: Blaze of War

First off.. I am biased. But I am going to give a bit O brutal review. Not really that brutal.

1st off. This is a “remastered” SABOW that was released back in 2011. It had a borked release with publishers that where borderline stupid. The game was released in a state with game braking bugs. This had nothing to do with the dev. In fact they released a series of unofficial patches to fix the issues. They however, where not allowed to officially fix the game. However, the rights just returned to the dev’s. Where all that unofficial content was made official and many fixes and improvements where added in.

An unmatched level of detail in simulation, with sometimes odd AI behavior being near its single downfall. Gameplay is generally excellent and the interiors/systems modeling of the T-62 which I use near exclusively is actually superior to Steel Beasts as it stands right now. Small details like dust kicked up by the cannon (major factor in desert environments, where the game is mostly set) and the animation of the 115mm’s ejection sequence are what bring this game the extra mile.

I can only really field 4 complaints about this game, total- especially considering its age and price point

Armored Warfare

Armored Warfare

I really had high hopes for this game, not because I thought it was better than World of Tanks or War Thunder, but because it had a mode that those other two games does not, that is, PvE. When you grow tired of the 15 vs. 15 idiot-fest that the other games become, you can play Armored Warfare and fight computer controlled opponents. Sure, you still have to deal with 4 other humans, but usually one or two of them go link-dead during the battle or stay along the edge of the map and out of your way.

A good idea run into the ground by greed, incompetence, and toxicity.

This game was originally made by Obsidian and despite meddling by My.com to make it more like World of Gold Shells, a lot of the old Obsidian magic still does shine through in the PVE content.

Unfortunately, this game is currently in the hands of My.games which is an incredibly cynical, lazy, and just generally unethical company.

Pay-to-Win Matchmaking

In addition to the usual pay-to-win upgrades and OP premium weapons which exist in many such “live-service” games, the devs now even sell pay-to-win matchmaking to “allow for more comfortable gameplay” for people who use premium currency to purchase “Battle Hardened status” for their vehicles.

Iron Front: Digital War Edition

Better then Arma but since the game spy shut down multiplayer is kinda hard to play now. Which was one of the best things on this game. Anyone that has a massive server and group still add me! The games singalplayer can be fun if you know how to make maps. Making a simple map is not that hard at all really. I do like it more then Arma. Deaths arnt so crapy looking. Just look up senarios online or use your imagenation to make a small simple map or a huge lag fest battle and have fun. This gmae should get more credit, but I will say it can be a time consumer when making a nice map. However its pays off most of the time.

Graviteam Tactics: Operation Star

Graviteam Tactics: Operation Star

Simply put, the best tactical wargame around, cardboard or PC. It’s not all that difficult to learn, nor is it loaded with tedious micromanagement, so don’t be indimidated thinking this is the land version of Harpoon/Command:MNAO. However, it is time consuming and the slower pace will likely bore those without a serious interest in Eastern Front military history. The manual/tutorials are not very helpful but the UI is really quite simple to pick up with some experimentation. If you’ve played less realistic games like the Wargame series, Combat Mission, or Theatre of War you should feel some familiarity. As far as subject matter, it’s primarily WWII eastern front, but DLC operations are available to expand it into the rarely covered Angolan Civil War as well as a Sino-Soviet border skirmish and a hypothetical Iranian intervention in the Soviet-Afghan War. (unfortunately if you want an actual Soviet-Afghan War scenario, you’ll have to look to GT’s other game, Steel Armor)

I grew up playing games like Close Combat and Combat Mission, but I always felt like those two games could be improved upon. Close Combat, particularly the 2nd and 3rd games in the series, were a great mix of highly tactical combat with campaign systems that allowed your units to fight battles which affected future battles and operations. While the later games went on to have bigger battles and maps, they lost a bit of the magic of the early games where the battles felt much more like struggles and where your past mistakes could lead you to be stuck in situations in Arnhem, or wherever, where you had 4 squads and needed to hold on for a half hour to get a decent cease fire. On the other hand, the Combat Mission series took the war to 3D but kept the extremely complex morale system and tank combat. Yet I never found the series quite as engaging due to a lack of any meaningful campaign system and clunky, abstracted interface and graphics. What I always wanted more was a strategic system like that of the later Close Combat series mixed with 3D graphics, and I think I’ve found that in the Graviteam Tactics series.

Poor game - not even worth the $4.99 I paid for it. Game has lots of “bugs” - nearly impossible to play with the camera view you have. Don’t bother! They got me , but save yourself!!

A pretty fun game with lots of potential. There are some bugs which is to be suspected for early access but they are not terrible. Also, the sounds need to be improved. For the time that I have owned it I have really enjoyed this game a lot. Definitely is a game that’s a lot of fun with friends. I just wish the game included a tips section as I am not really sure where to place my turrets, what quantity of which turrets to place, and the best way to place my walls. A little more direction would help. Overall I recommend it.

wow…what a great game…totally worth the 20 bones i paid….keep up the great work! … it needs more polish, but the overall game is one of the best tower defense games i have ever played….the tank is really fun too….if you pump up the tank speed, you will be a master tank drifter in no time!…..this game will be up there with sanctum and defense grid if they finish it…..we need more games like this…you can play it more chill or more active if u like….easy to get up between waves and make food or whatever(420)… 2 thumbs up!

Graviteam Tactics: Mius-Front

Graviteam Tactics: Mius-Front

I can safely say that Graviteam Tactics is the best WW2 strategy game that has been created. Do not hesitate on your potential purchase for a second; you may wonder why there is so little publicity, reviews and so forth. I had wondered about this too. However, once you try it out, and stick with it for a bit, you will appreciate the hidden gem that it is.

No game to date has been created with such a level of thoughtful design within the realm of WW2 strategy games. In my opinion, this game is superior to Company of Heroes, Men of War (vanilla and Robz) and Steel Division by a long shot; except for certain mechanics that were implemented as unique aspects of those respective games. When it comes to authenticity, realism, scale, weapon detail, macro and operational size play, cinematisism and overall strategic planning this game shines and shines brightly at that. The only aspects that I regard as inferior in this game is in small scale micro management, the aesthetically bland (but very functional) UI and the lackluster depth and breadth of tutorials/guides. A number of negative reviews are from people who believe this game is too complex and want something simpler. To most I would hope this is not an issue.

Where to begin?

A wonderful piece of software, made with passion and expertise by a developer that knows the subject matter and strives to recreate the grim reality of commanding men on the field of battle.

This is not a wargame, neither is it an RTS, it’s a coldly unforgiving battle simulator that does a terrific job of placing the player in the shoes of a battalion commander, this is a game where actual knowledge and understanding of military doctrine and of the tools at yours and your enemies disposal will be advantageous, real world tactics not only work but are necessary in order to succeed.

Having played Hero Armored Company for about 10 hours now, already some things can be said about this tank sim. Let me begin with the most important thing: I like it! This game has the potential to become a great tank simulator.

Does it have problems? Yes. Does it need improvement? Absolutely! But that doesn’t wipe out the fact that this is the most fun tank sim I’ve played since World Of Tanks (and I’ve played a LOT of WoT!!!) - and for me at some points it even superseeds it!

THE GAME

For now only part of the single player content is available with a Story Mode (with at this moment 8 missions) - an aspect I definately miss in WoT! Single Player Mission Mode and Multiplayer Mode will become available at a later stage. So far I have been grinding myself though the Story Mode.

Tank Warfare: Tunisia 1943

Ok, I curently have 124.5 hours. I was actually beta testing. So with that in mind I am also baised on all thing gravi. Call me fan boy, whatever. I am also a history nerd, combat vet, 3d model and texture guy. Now I mention these as all pertain to this game and series.

This is a real time historcial WAR GAME. As in things like historical battles (Sidi Bou Zid here), moral, communication lines, supply lines, legit vehicle penetration, shell performance, wind, weather, time of day, you know that stuff. Not RTS life bar arcade silliness. I like that too, but not here. This is a Graviteam Tactics:Muis front derived game. Some mild improvements here and there that honestly most will not notice. 2x once those get patched into Muis. Like infantry can no longer “bounce” over barbed wire fences. They have to go around. Little things like that.

A New Wargame Experience

Preface

Let me begin with a note of gratitude to the developer/publisher of this wargame series in which I too have a love/hate relationship from the beginning of its inception with Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943 through Operation Star, Mius Front and now Tunisia 1943. Despite the good/bad AI experience that many legitimately claim, let me also state my personal opinion concerning the series in general of what I believe is the best simulation experience in its genre: Tank Warfare: Tunisia 1943.
