Chariot Land

Chariot Land

Chariot Land is a simple shooting game with only movement and shooting operations and unlimited ammo.

The player needs to select a chariot(Some chariots need to be unlocked by completing certain level and killing a certain number of enemies ), and then enter the level combat, clearing all the enemies.

When the player is in the enemy’s line of sight, he is locked, and can use the terrain to avoid enemy tracking, or run away.

Every time you destroy an enemy, you will get a shield or a medical box. Shields can be accumulated indefinitely, but health cannot exceed the maximum.

There are currently five levels, the first of which is a simple kill game that is completed by clearing all enemies. For the rest of the level, the enemies will flow out of the big transport helicopter, which must be destroyed first, and then the rest of the enemies will be cleared. Note that the enemy will come to the rescue when attacking the transport helicopter.

Fight when you’re ready!

Lil Tanks

Lil Tanks

A hidden gem of not only 2017, but for Shoot ‘em Up fans everywhere in my opinion!

4 out of 5

PROS: A well balanced, yet challenging shmup. Banging music. Great arcade-y and charming look. A small, yet diverse enough array of pick-ups to combine and use at your disposal that offer some imaginative use. Specials that can get you out of a sticky situation. Unlockable characters (tanks) with different playstyles. Boss Training Room (a mode I find necessary for Shmups), and difficulty mods to increase the challenge this game has to offer. Also, it has a rewarding level up system where you get permanent upgrades to your tank(s). Such as triple shot, a spread shot pattern, and depending on what tank you are using, specific artillery adhering to the characters play style.

The controls are so slow that it sometimes is physically impossible to dodge, even if you make the enemies’ bullets out between the confusing optics. You DO have a shield that prevents one hit, but it wont recharge when you lost one of your two lives, so its useless after that. The choice of weapons is also quite low.

The PC version of this game is quite frustrating. It’s a straight-forward, fun game - undeniably. But, it’s ported from an app and it suffers as such. It requires far higher computing resources than such a lightweight program should ever demand. Framerates should be through the roof on even the most modest equipment but that’s not the case. And, there are precious few settings options to help improve performance or control. Video options are limited to only resolution and low/medium/high graphics quality.

Now that it’s a standard 4$, it’s the best money you’ll spend in a while.

The game plays exactly like in the video. It’s fast, fluid, and is a hell of a lot of fun to play. I guess the simplicity is where it lies, and that everyone is on the same playing field at the start of a game. Being almost 30, and having friends between 20’s and late 30’s who all loved this game, I don’t know who wouldn’t like it.

The only problem is it’s a very unknown game at the moment, and it needs players to spread the word. I’d give it an 8/10 for what it offers. The gameplay is very solid, it just needs more content and it would be exponentially better.

Vektor Wars

Vektor Wars

My first encounter with non-educational gaming came in the form of “Battlezone”, sometime in the early 90’s, on my grandpa’s Packard Bell with Prodigy Internet.

Windows 3.1 contained a suite of arcade classics, consisting of such titles as Centipede, Asteroids, Tempest, and so on. But Battlezone was the only one that hit me in the heart. That’s because I WAS the shooter, and every enemy projectile was a take on my life, and not the life of some idiot I was looking down on.

This game is Battlezone on crack cocaine.

woefully obsolete/misinformed; fun simple game that has a tendency to be reduced to combing the map for collectibles while kiting enemies.

Ladders are broken.

Walk into them while looking up.

This review was negative because I consistently encountered ladders that would not let me climb them. Though I did encounter one of those “camera-lock and teleported away” glitches (from an enemy exploding too close this time, not a ladder), I made it to level 3 in one sitting.

The game is fun and hearkens back to th’old days (of which I wasn’t a part). There are collectibles and weapons strewn about the level. One of those collecitbles - Robodudes - is dynamic, as in they run around the level. Grab them when you see them.
