The Tower of TigerQuiQui is a collection of more GameMaker Studio template flips from copy+paste “developer” TigerQuiQui who has a weird pattern of dumping completely garbage 2D retro pixel asset flips from GameMaker Studio with various NES style pixel skins on them, then charging literally hundreds of dollars in empty, valueless DLC.

No exceptions here, you can’t make this up, TigerQuiQui have their hands out for ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN US DOLLARS with of contentless DLC for this “free” asset flip. In this case it looks like some of the assets are direct copies of old NES games, so we can hope Nintendo will step in here.

Tiger Tank 59 Ⅰ

Tiger Tank 59 Ⅰ

Lucky me gets to write the first English review for Tiger Tank 59 Ⅰ. This is a free to play 2D top down shoot ‘em up where you control what I think is some kind of tank against a bunch of other tanks. It’s hard to tell, as the screenshots show, there’s some really bad graphics here.

Although this is a copy of the GameMaker Studio shoot ‘em up template, original assets have been used. GameMaker Studio is a terrible game construction kit, and you can’t build a nice house from a terrible foundation. Games made with GameMaker Studio are always, always terrible, and this game is no exception.

Presentation

Tank Universal is one of the most weird, yet ambitious indies you’ll ever play, as it tries to introduce you to a story that’s not even defined by the end of the title. Developed by a single person, New Zealand’s graphic designer Phil Jones, the game kicks off by introducing you to a terminally ill patient who was prescribed a virtual reality headset in order to help him relax. Inside this virtual reality is where you will take control of Unit8, a soldier finding himself at the beginning of a revolution against the society that rules the virtual world, deciding to join the resistance and help them defeat Gorgon, the ruler and oppressor of their world.

A great game about tank skirmishing in 80’s-version-of-the-future-worlds. The player goes up against a giant eyeball overlord along with men from a resistance movement. Together they fight past vast amounts of enemy vehicles such as tanks, artillery, and even goddamn bombers.

The story is more or less just there so people won’t complain about lack of a story, and the read-only dialogue is laughably bad at times, but the game contains a lot of fun to be had and some really unexpected twists.

Once you beat the campaign, you can test your strength in the “skirmish” mode, where you have 20 minutes to kill as many enemies, of all types, as possible, and try not to die in the process.

Tiger Fighter 1931 Tora!Tora!Tora!

Tiger Fighter 1931 Tora!Tora!Tora!

Lucky me gets to write the first review for Tiger Fighter 1931 Tora!Tora!Tora! This is a free to play 2D top down vertical scrolling arcade shoot ‘em up where you control what I think is some kind of airplane against a bunch of other planes. It’s hard to tell, as the screenshots show, there’s some really bad graphics here.

Although this is a copy of the GameMaker Studio shoot ‘em up template, original assets have been used. Despite this, the gameplay is fluid and you have a big area to move around in, so the bullet hell dynamics get interesting. You have room to dodge and control the flow of the game that most shoot ‘em ups fail to grasp. There’s also a reasonable array of pickups that give you different firing modes and upgrade your firepower.

Möbius Front ‘83

Möbius Front ‘83

I think this is my first Steam review; I watched a talk from Zach and he said that he takes feedback seriously so I figured, why not?

I love Zachtronics’ coding games, and I also love turn-based wargames, so I was pretty excited for this one. Unfortunately I think they’ve missed the mark this time. There’s a lot to like, but while it has the pleasing simplicity of games like Into the Breach (single-digit numbers for health, damage, range, and speed, grid map, etc.) it lacking some of the elegance.

Real player with 53.5 hrs in game

Möbius Front 83 is a simple and good game. Yet to finish it, but played enough of it to say what I think.

PROS:

  • Great presentation, graphics is aesthetically pleasing, great animations of units – I love how dust animation is used to indicate direction of movement of vehicles.

  • Outstanding sound design. Muffled sound of weapon fire and explosion sound like you hear weapons firing in the distance or if, like I imagine it would be to hear sound of weapons firing while you sit in an armoured vehicle.
