Concrete Jungle Allrighty, folks, we are looking at a gem that doesn’t even know what KIND of gem it is. Is it a strategy? Yes. Is it an Indie? Yes. Is it a Tetris-like game? Yes. Is it procedurally generated? Yes. Is it a Rogue-lite? Yes. Is it Ironman? Yes. Does it involve competition? Yes. Can you play it for hours and hours on end? YES!!! I was absolutely surprised just how much the game did right....
Before We Leave I have personally been enjoying this game very much! I appreciate that I don’t need to worry about war or combat, nor must I consider the monetary value of my peoples (ie. slavery). It still can be challenging, and I was pleasantly surprised by the little challenges it throws your way (ex: the gremlins!). The aesthetic is very pleasing, and it isn’t very demanding graphically. 1980 Quite fun, quite well executed, it’s a small game but what it does, it generally does well. The one criticism I have to make concerns “gentrification”. I know what gentrification is, I’ve spent the last twenty years living in Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle, all cities where gentrification has happened. The issue of poor people being priced out of their city is one that I’m aware of. It’s a complex issue - it’s bad for the working class population, but quite nice for the upper-middle-class upwards, because the whole city is reshaped for them; very often the city as a whole thrives....
Actraiser Renaissance First of all, this is a QUINTET remaster. The mere fact that this game exists is a tremendous blessing for a certain cult fanbase. The obvious bias aside, is the game good? There’s a single means of controling the battle, a slider. unfortunately it’s of limited use once troops start fighting as even if you’re fighting at the enemy’s gates and then disengage a good portion of your troops will continue to fight the enemy, and even those who have disengaged will often immediately rush back towards the enemy once they reach the point you’ve set, compounding how horrible this is is the fact that your troops won’t fall back all at once and instead will go back is in clumps of 2-4....
