CountryBalls Heroes
For this review I’m considering three things:
-
this is a new game (so bugs are expected)
-
the developers are indie so they might take longer to patch and update the game
-
if this game is on your radar you probably enjoy polandball/countryball meme comics.
So, I want to start off with the negatives. Nothing I hate more than reading through a review, getting hyped for the good, just to see some stuff that’s a deal breaker for me. We’ll start off with bugs/design issues:
SAVE GAME BUG
Probably the worst bug in the lot. It basically makes saves a pointless feature. Basically, if you load a save game all/most of the settlements disappear. They disappear from the map, from the quick bar to the right. Essentially destroying your save.

As an old Heroes 3 Fan, CountryBalls Heroes was a must buy for me.
Graphics are nicely drawn, animations are ok and the music is nice too. Nothing spectacular, but not bad either. I like the basic idea of HOMM 3 meets political incorrectness and the game has humor and charme. I got some chuckles here and there.
The gameplay is 100% HOMM 3, but a bit simpler and more shallow. You build your base, ride around the map with your hero, fighting for resources, producing more units until you’re strong enough to attack the opponent.

Fates of Ort
FAQ First:
“Is Fates of Ort a good game?”
Yes, absolutely. It has quests, choices, different endings, an open world, interesting mechanics, and it risks to be different, like any game in the NES/SNES era did.
“Ok, what kind of game is it?”
THIS is the first hard question. It’s hard to say, because it is really something unique, and hence cannot be hard pressed into a single category. It most probably is closest to the RPG genre, but it features so many awesome mechanics, which haven’t really been around that often and it mixes them exceptionally well.

A very unique and compelling game. I can’t say I’ve played anything exactly like this game before. It is a great little non-linear action rpg with some interesting quests and decisions to make. You are thrust right into the heart of the action, and you only have one option and one quest. You must explore, and begin to unwind the tangled web of problems that are plaguing your homeland. Some things are relatively simple, some require a little bit of thinking. The best thing is that all the quests are grounded in the reality of the game. You will use the objects you find, and sometimes you can use certain objects for more than quest, but you must choose. Who can help you more? Who deserves this particular piece of treasure more? Who do I believe, who do I follow, who lives, who dies? So many grand questions and you are generally making decisions from the gut and praying you were right.

Great game. I wish their were more levels and an option to eliminate the level cap for sandboxing.

Knights of the Tiny Table
Decent game, gets boring after a little while. Could use a little more content. As it is it’s just about worth the $4 pricetag.

Fun little game. Hating yourself for not choosing another knight sometimes and one round later you are very happy with your choice.

Ash of Gods: Redemption
Do you like story-driven turn-based tactical RPGs? Even those who have nothing to do with Japan and with fantasy in general?
Well, I was just searching for other turn-based games, and this one popped out as one of the recommended titles on Steam.
And I was not disappointed at all, as a long-time RPG player and turn-based lover.
The gameplay isn’t really innovative, but I wanted exactly the contrary - here you’ll face a classical turn-based system in which everyone will stay put until you choose which action to do (each turn is timed anyways).

Choices. Much like the choice you’re making on whether to buy this game or not, making difficult choices is one of the key aspects of this game. It will affect how the characters react, whether they’ll live or die, how the story develops, and ultimately how it will end. A lot of that takes time and setup, and in many ways this is the kind of game that takes patience to love. It has its share of faults, but if you can get past them I think there’s an excellent strategy game just waiting to be played.

Chess Evolved Online
The developer is clearly insane, and there are numerous horrific flaws that I assume will never be fixed ever. The good news is that it takes a while for the true gravity of those flaws to start affecting you, and until then you can enjoy this game a lot.
Here is a small sampling of some of the terrors of the past, although they may be gone*, they surely portend of more great sorrow in the future:
1. Turn one checkmate was once possible. Yes it is as bad as it sounds. Although it could be staved off by simply covering ever square within a 3 square radius of your king.

Chess Evolved Online is an extremely frustrating game to play, and not for the right reasons. While it has an incredibly compelling base for a game and that is fun for a long time, you eventually get to a level where, at the highest rankings (I am currently in the top 50 as of this review, rank ~4400), you are forced to play only the most boring stally armies or lose a lot of rating because of effective RNG where other armies hard-counter your pieces.
So while I am giving this game a positive review out of support for being much better than most games out there, it still feels dreadful to play due to developer incompetence.

Guards
**My experience with Guards so far :
-
On the store page : okay, this doesn’t look bad
-
Starting the game : what the hell am I missing ? That’s it, really, that’s the game ?
-
After playing for 2 hours : why am I still playing ?
-
After playing for 10 hours : am I addicted?**
Guards is a simple turn-based strategy game in which you have to pick 4 out of 8 heroes (Peasant, Healer, Archer, Witcher, Rifleman, Amazon, Knight and Assassin) to fight hordes of monsters. Basically, there are 10 levels (the last one being the boss fight), and in each level you have to eliminate x monsters before proceeding to the next level. At the beginning of each turn, you have to swap the position of two of your heroes : the 3 on the front line attack, while the one in the back regenerates and prepares his special attack for the next time he’ll go back to the front line. Once you defeat the boss in normal difficulty, you’ll unlock the Nightmare mode ; then, if you manage to beat the game again, prepare yourself for the Hell difficulty. There are also quests to complete during the game for extra rewards.

Guards is a pretty interesting tbs game. While initially it took me awhile to understand what the game was about, after sinking in about three hours, I found that I had a lot of fun with it. I would like to share my experiences but be warned, this is my first time writing a review.
Gameplay wise, Guards is simillar to Plant vs Zombies except turned based, where the enemies moves towards you(your heroes) in a grid. It also reminds me of the web game Rise Of Mythos, except not paytowin, and that your heroes(Guards?) do not move. You choose a combination four different characters to go on a run from a selection of 8 and each hero have their own gimmicks. Half of the game is mix and matching the heroes and refining your own strategy, playing through the run, getting rewards to upgrade your heroes and buy consumables and going back in stronger. While I have not reached the end of a campaign, I heard that more difficult campaigns will be unlocked as you complete the easier ones. The only thing you can do in the fight itself is repositioning your heroes (and use consumables). Three heroes on the front lines will be active while one hero will be idle at the back(and regenerate hp if unlocked). Your goal will be to move units around, taking into account hp, attack and range to kill off the target amount of enemies advancing towards you. Position is key, especially as special abilities can only be activated when a unit moves to the front lines. Game over if a hero dies.

Magic defense 2: The Return of the Legend
The legends are coming back!
The main magic tower is in great danger. A horde of stupid magical characters want to destroy the stronghold of good magic and become the only owners of magic!
You are the only one who can try to stop them, develop your own tactics to stop the enemy!
Can you defeat the enemy and protect the magic? No one knows, but one way or another, the range of available warriors will open up the widest tactical possibilities for you.
The game features 20 different levels with cute graphics and excellent special effects.
Western Sigil
Western Sigil is a tower defense game in which you take on the role of the sheriff’s son, tasked with maintaining peace in the town of Wadeville. Idyll will not last too long since a dangerous plague has broken into the city walls and your mission is to find its source and stop the rot from spreading.
NOTHING UNITES HUMANS LIKE A COMMON ENEMY
Recruit cowboys, Indians, National Guard soldiers, Mexicans or even bandits - everyone, regardless of their political views, wants the end of the ugly plague.
Or Do they?
BE SMART
Strategically deploy your forces on the map and set up turrets. Hire new members and gain experience to develop your units. Throw away their rusty guns and gear them up with new weapons to make your team even more powerful. Set ambushes to weaken your foes and find out who’s the cause of the overwhelming havoc.
APPROACH BEASTS OF ALL POSSIBLE LEGENDS AND TALES
Fight orcs, demons, skeletons, goblins, trolls, forest creatures and even animals like wolves or bears. The variety of monsters you will encounter in-game is a good material for a separate bestiary book, a weird one, that is.
FEELS LIKE A MAGIC
The task is made difficult by the fact that there was some kind of strange magic involved in all this. To remove the unfortunate spell, you must find all the mysterious sigils and close the portal leading to another dimension, the very home of awful creatures disrupting the peace in Wadeville.
FEATURES:
-
Protect your lands in this unique tower defense & resource management game sprinkled with a spicy pinch of strategy.
-
Get in the ranks with cowboys, Indians, soldiers, local Mexicans or bandits.
-
Distribute the units on the map properly - their location determines their strength.
-
Hire new members to boost your performance on the battlefield.
-
Gain experience and develop your units by equipping them with new, shiny weapons.
-
Set ambushes and place standard and premium turrets to protect every single acre of Wadeville.
