Table Top Turrets

Table Top Turrets

I downloaded ‘Table Top Turrets’ out of curiosity as, although I play a lot of tower defence games, most of them are quite boring and are very similar to each other. It was refreshing, therefore, to see such an eye-catching and colourful game appear on Steam. I thought I’d take a chance with it and I am delighted that I did.

The game is very fun to play. There are about 10 different levels, each with 3 different difficulties, all of which completely change the dynamic of the game. In essence, therefore, there are about 30 levels. The levels all have interesting track designs and the possibilities of placing down turrets are almost endless. Although the game is not what I would describe as a ‘sandbox’ mode, once you get some experience, it begins to feel this way. With a great selection of turrets to choose from, each one having a different effect on the enemies, it really does feel like you have unlimited ways of playing the level. Not only is this just fun from the get-go but it means that the game does not get boring.

It’s almost a good game!

When you find-out how to turn off the terrible music, play on ‘Hard’ level, and

! refrain from using any of the ‘Beamers’ , this game is….almost not boring!

Oh! And you need to be a HUGE fan of TD games too!

But outside of that: Go for it! You’ll have a formidable 20 minutes of enjoyment!! ;)

Sky Journey - Jigsaw Landscapes

Sky Journey - Jigsaw Landscapes

Simple little jigsaw puzzle game that I actually found very addictive once I had started; playing this while listening to podcasts helped me to unwind and it distracted me from the existential dread of existence. Few minor bugs but nothing that halts progress. Great to play when you’re slumped in a heap and only want to exert the energy of moving one hand. Recommended.

In essence this is a puzzle game for the younger gamers.

The images are of the family friendly variety.

The art itself is not bad.

Several difficulty choices.

Music is alright.

Due to lack of puzzle “levels” I would only recommend on a steep discount. Got this game with a bundle myself.

As a challenge for myself, in progress of 100% the achievements as of posting of this review.

Talisman: Digital Edition

Talisman: Digital Edition

Digital edition of classic fantasy RPG board game, Talisman. If you know the board game and like it, think no more, you need this.

..what if you don’t know Talisman? I still recommend it!

Heed this, though: old school board games tend to have different sensibilities than modern digital games and it may be bit too random for your taste. If you can’t stomach being on top of the world only for your game to be turned into ashes in your mouth because of no fault of your own or genius of your opponents, but rather pure chance of bad dice rolls… This may not be for you.

TL;DR: Ignore the meta-critic score; ignorant reviewers shouldn’t be allowed to review games.

–—————————————————————————————

Talisman: Digital Edition is an amazing adaptation of the original boardgame. I could write several pages about why this game is enjoyable to play, but there are a million reviews that can give you that. Instead, let me explain why all of the negative reveiwers are wrong:

1 - Most of the negative reviewers can’t read. I don’t know how to put this politely, but it seems that 9/10 of the negative reviews I see about this game come down to the fact that the reviewer didn’t understand how a certain card or area worked. For example, they’ll say things like, “I couldn’t use my Psionic Blast card in the middle of combat????”" … when the card clearly states when you can use it. I’m sorry, but if you can’t even read, you shouldn’t be reviewing games.

Decks & Daggers

Decks & Daggers

(Review updated after completing the game.)

I felt neutral about the game until about half way through, but having finished it, it gets my unequivocal thumbs up.

I loved it.

It’s not a Slay the Spire clone, or anything like that - and yet I do feel it could offer the depth of strategy and builds of those games (and its spin-offs) while still remaining true to itself.

This game has had a lot of love and character thrown into it, which exceeds the StS brigade. It has a story and interesting characters. The art work is also beautiful and full of atmosphere and charm.

Real player with 28.3 hrs in game

It looks like a fun game but sadly the cards you are dealt for each hand are completely random, so you can end up with no chance at winning a round and this happens time and time again.

I played for 6 hours and most of that time was starting again as the cards I was dealt meant I died pretty much on the first hand of each round.

What should have been a great game is ruined by the RNG.

Edit - Following latest update

I revisited the game after the update and although the RNG is still an issue (for me), it’s much less than before and I completed the game.

the animations are nice and the system is well made. Use the tactics of the era and you’ll do just fine.

IN A WORD: MAYBE

IN A NUTSHELL:

WHAT TO EXPECT: WW2 themed turn-based wargame. ‘Beer and pretzel’ play style. Attritional combat model. Chess-like battles. Unit class levelling and combat abilities. Tactical combat states. Tiny hex-grid maps. Good-looking combat models. No core force. Dynamically purchased order of battle. Some annoying bugs. GUI obfuscated game rules/mechanics. Incomplete scenario implementation. Active dev. Single-player only.

ACHIEVEMENTS: NONE.
