Mechanica

Still an amazing game!

I am editing this review to reflect how i feel after adding another 120 hours of play time in game and i can tell you that my feelings toward this game have only been reinforced. This game is awesome! The developer has been very vocal with the community and continuously given us updates (both content and where they are at with future updates). Still a very intuitive but complex programming system that is only limited by the player. Since my first review there have been massive updates! I.e Base building, new defenses, enemy types, and so much more! Absolutely worth the 20$

This game brings THE single feature that would take every game that inspires it to the next level. I love it, I love what it could be if it were developed seriously with a full team. All these “learn to code” “psuedo-games (such as hour-of-code) are failing at the “GAME” part of this. Mechanica has NAILED this. I want this to be fully developed so badly because learning to code is so much easier when driven by necessity, by a problem the coder themselves understand. This game presents situations for the player to have a reason to want to code/program, and then provides a great framework for learning to implement their ideas. This game also brings that magic element that no other game like Satisfactory or Factorio has, the ability to determine how you want a group of machines to work together, and then to implement that idea, the player’s idea, not just putting together blocks of machines in some manner the dev wants you to.

If anybody can hear me, please respond.

_I am a sole survivor of the liberty, a long range scout ship on a mission to discover the cause of a spacial anomaly on the edge of this system. My crew is missing and had to re-purpose some drones to make repairs.

Everything that could go wrong has, I have limited fuel, limited resources and have had to resort to explore this sector to look for supplies.

Things turned from bad to worse when I realized that every ship and base I have discovered has turned up empty. No life, nobody. Nothing except some extra scrap and some upgrades I used to further my search._

So, you wanted to get scared. You wanted to play a horror game. Perhaps a survival rogue-like one? Forget your run-of-the-mill jump scare games, monsters, aliens and other nasties. Duskers will make you fear mere sounds of the ship you’ve docked at creaking, shudder at seeing flashing red doors and jump at simple beeps of your console.

The atmosphere of the game has to be applauded over and over. The graphical nature is simple yet complex. Simple in terms of the console view where you can see the location of your drones, the layout of the ship, the state of its doors and so on. This part is logically clean and very un-Hollywood like, where terminals will be more graphically impressive than any operating system yet look a fraction as useful. The console, coupled with the ambient rumbling of your ship’s engines as well as various blips and blops, will reinforce the feeling of isolation. The feeling that you are truly alone in the cold vastness of space, desperately trying to keep your aging ship and failing drones to keep going as you attempt to figure out just what has happened to everyone.

the game is generally good and i enjoy playing it but it has its fair amount of downsides too, but i am only making this review to complain that they changed how rocket fuel tanks looks, because it seems that they failed to realize that players have been using the rocket fuel tanks for decoration and now when it became simplified it just looks stupid. and there is no way to use the old ones. :(

Honest review from someone who has put a huge amount of time into this game

  • Badly optimised, crashes are fairly common.

  • Multiplayer mostly unplayable due to desync between clients.

  • Base game content is lacking after they pulled the original missions

  • Original purpose of the game entirely lost and forgotten by the devs based on a single discord poll

As much as I had no issues with the weapon DLC coming as it could’ve added some real great additional content but sadly the entire focus has been on the weapons.

Craftica

Craftica

Craftica: Building Your Wonderland

Craftica is a creative sandbox game with ultra high degrees of freedom for building. It supports deformable voxels and subvoxels at multiple scales so that smooth objects can be built in realistic scales, and makes it possible to build very elegant architectures.

Craftica provides a large number of electronic and mechanical as well as other related device items, allowing players to build sophisticated circuits and circuit-controlled electronic and mechanical devices. Players can even build vehicles, aircrafts, robots and computers etc. high-tech objects from items as basic as logical gates.

Deformable Voxel and Subvoxels

In Craftica the basic voxel is a full cube and the subvoxels are partial cubes with one or more corner chopped off.

The voxels and subvoxels are deformable, and can be made more round or less round by hammer tools.

The support of deformable voxels and subvoxels in Craftica makes it possible to create much smoother objects in this game than in other voxel-based sandbox games.

Also the voxel and subvoxels in Craftica are supported at multiple size levels, so that fine structures can be represented at a scale comparable to the real world.

As an example, Craftica has very good support for East Asian architectures, and includes a large number of standard structures with East Asian architecture styles.

In Craftica, subvoxels are also used to smooth the procedurally generated terrain. And terrain and objects imported from Minecraft Schematic files are also smoothed using subvoxels.

Smart Placement of Blocks and Items

Craftica is designed to allow intuitive construction of objects using subvoxels, and supports consistent operations for placing basic blocks (voxels and subvoxels) and items.

Craftica also supports rule-based placement. When an object item is being placed near another object, if there is a predefined rule to determine a proper placement for the object in relative the other, the rule will be used to calculate the proper placement location and orientation.

In-Scene Crafting

Item crafting in Craftica can be done in the scene, using formulas that are structural and intuitive.

Device Items

Craftica provides a number of standard mechanical and electronic device items that can be used to build complex circuit as well as machines that can be controlled by circuits.

Circuits in this game emulates those in the real world with great simplifications. Like circuits in the real world, Craftica uses physical connection between components to construct functional circuits. These circuits are mainly powered by electric energy and driven by data exchanges.

(See the documentation included in the game for more information)

Village

In Craftica worlds, some places are generated with villages. Each village is generated with a few houses and at least one workshop and one defensive fort or tower, and spawns with at least one warrior to defend the village.

The relationship between a village and a player is characterized by affinity. Affinity can be zero, positive or negative, indicating a neutral, friendly or hostile relationship.

The affinities between villages and player(s) are initialized randomly. Normally, there will be more neutral villages than friendly and hostile ones, and more friendly ones than hostile ones. Their actual percentages may vary according to game modes and difficulty levels.

Trade

When a positive affinity reaches certain levels, the player will have free access to some village structures and storages (different structures and storages may have different affinity thresholds). And when a negative affinity reaches a certain level, the village warrior will actively attack the player.

Trading with villagers or defending the village against hostile mobs will improve the affinity between the player and the village. On the other hand, attacking villagers will deteriorate the affinity.

Survival

In survival mode, barbarians and other hostile mobs will be generated. They will attack the player and villages. The only way to survive is to fight back or run!

Model Importing

In addition to the creative and survival modes, Craftica supports an experimental development mode. In this mode, the player can import external models into the game worlds.

The player can either choose a Minecraft Schematic file (currently only .schematic file is supported, .schem file will be supported the upcoming updates) to import when creating a new game in the development mode:

Or import .obj 3D model files (importing Schematic files within a game will also be supported in the future) within a game in the development mode:

Modiverse

Modiverse

The beta key for the final Modiverse update that includes unfinished cars is “kjmodbetatesters”

This game was dead on arrival. Let me get this out of the way, Modiverse wasn’t meant to be a scam, it was abandoned likely from fear.

The origins of this game (at least according to the creator, KillerJim) was that there was a dispute between KillerJim and the creator of Pavlov VR. What the dispute was about was never revealed, but it ended with Jim deciding to create a VR game being a direct competitor to Pavlov VR. Over the course of development, people were offered access to a closed beta for modders, but the majority of them didn’t have VR setups so the game’s direction was changed to be similar to both Pavlov and Garry’s Mod.

Still rather early on, but it has great potential with open source mods made by the developers to get creators a head start if they want to contribute to the workshop and the community.

There is still more to come and more support from the developers, now yes it seems rather empty and small now, but with growth and numbers this game can really take off.

We just need people to believe in the project and show support if they can.

The Alpha 001

By far, this is the most confusing mess of cobbled together Unity assets I’ve ever seen.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_T1THdZuHg

Avoid at all costs, at least for a year after this games launch date of January 18, 2021 because it will definitely take this developer at least that long to fix this completely broken pile of garbage.

NOT RECOMMENDED. ..My Score: Another Google Zero Asset, but hey it’s floating in the air like all the text and your U.I in this game so that’s an lot better right?

The Ghost Train | 幽霊列車

The Ghost Train | 幽霊列車

Visually, this game is appealing. I feel like that’s the only pro I can mention. If you’re wanting a plot in this game then you will get a plot, just expect it to be a plot hole. Basically, all you do is go to the restroom in the train station, go to the smoking area, then ride the train until you reach the very end of the game. The puzzles were okay, but the last puzzle with the items you pick up was very confusing to figure out. If anyone is stuck on that… when you pick up the items (the cane, shoes, bug cage, windmill toy, and beer can) you set them on the train seat opposite of the reflection in the window in which character they belong to. It took me forever to figure it out. The endings weren’t as immersive as with the endings in The Convenience Store & Missing Children. Overall, decent game, but it gets a bit tedious for the time you spend playing it. I highly recommend playing Missing Children and The Convenience Store instead. Those are phenomenal, plot based, and wonderful atmospheric games!

This was my first game experience from Chilla’s Art and I got to say I wish it’d happened sooner, appearantly I’m an avid J-Horror fan and I didn’t even know it before crossing this game. I ended up reading Japanese urban legends at 4 AM in the morning- besides Kisaragi I guess

! the chase part is a reference to Teke Teke. Can’t wait to play the other ones.

My cons for the game is the walking/running speed and the fact that

! getting killed or not killed by the girl not affecting the ending type you get. And I can get the reason for low speed, building up tension etc. etc. but instead of that it just straight up frustrated me, drove me to boredom at first portion of the game. It felt repetetive and laggy, but after progressing enough and getting both endings the repetetive parts felt justified.

Nimbatus - The Space Drone Constructor

Nimbatus - The Space Drone Constructor

Nimbatus is a great game that ha sucked away my free time.

Tutorial:

The tutorial is not the best, it only tells you the bare minimum in its first section on how to build a mobile craft, and all the other tutorials are basically useless, the only usefull one for the ingame content is the logic section that teaches you how to build a basic ramming style sumo drone even thougb the objective is to create a drone to fly forwards with no context as for why you need to know what this could be used for. ALSO the in the harvesating tutorial the ore does not get harvested correctly, it shrinks into the center unlike chunks being ripped off of the ore in the acutal game.

This is tough to rate this as not recommended.

The main appeal of this game, for me, was concept of creating completely autonomous spacecraft. And at a glance, it does that very well. I was able to create several different ships that were able to go off alone and solve missions by themselves, and even a ‘factory mothership’ that would replicate a variety of subordinate drones that would do the dirty work for mom. It is pretty satisfying at first, almost like a simulation of 2D electronics with a unique environment to play with.

As a fan of Chillas games, this is possibly the first negative review I’ve given of his/hers games.

Pros:

  • Bigger maps than usual (or so it feels).

  • Superb atmosphere as usual.

  • Sprint ability!

  • Collectibles.

  • Good story.

  • Good sound design.

Cons:

  • Objectives are a bit unclear. Like, after cleaning up urine one would assume next step is to put the cloth used in the washing machine, but I guess in Asian countries you just throw things in a plastic bag and keep it around your house…?

  • AI enemy very fast finding and attacking you when needing to perform actions. You need to run around and close doors behind you all over the house for at least half of the clocks in order to try and make it in time before being killed.

The Caregiver (TCG) is the most recent j-horror experience to come out from Chilla’s Art (CA)- who doesn’t even need an introduction at this point! It’s no secret, I’m a huge fan of theirs; I actually want to review all of their games but it’s easier said than done because you must have nerves of steel and not prone to mini-heart attacks. If you love Japanese horror movies, and want to be a glorified “extra” then play any one!! My first ever was when I worked in The Convenience Store (TCS) , but that’s because I was shopping for more than I bargained for.
