Don’t Starve
Before I say ANYTHING, I recommend y’all NEVER use the console command thing too often. Use that too much and the game will get extremely boring after a while. Trust me, I know from experience. Anyway, allow me to say that I’ve loved Don’t Starve ever since I saw Markipliar play it back in the old days of YouTube. I’ve played this game for years and years and it still sticks to me like the syrup in my hair, like the fungus beneath my toenails, like the grime in the corners of my eyes. Why do I like this game so much? Because of the following. One, it’s fun. Two, it’s creative and I find the lore super interesting. Three, I find the animation and the art style really cool and unique. Four, it just kinda clicks with me, y’know?

Probably my favorite game of all time (definitely in the top 5). I have played hundreds if not thousands of games in my life and very few come even close to this game in so many ways. The game-play is addictive and always has me coming back for more even after more than 5 years of playing across different platforms. The characters are easy to get attached to and have fun backgrounds and lore. The setting is surreal and poses lots of questions for you to unravel as well as some that you don’t. They art style is another thing I really like. I only wish that this game was the main game and still got updates and new content. KLEI has shown itself to be a great developer although their future is a bit of an unknown. I will keep hoping for the best. The community and mods are still thriving though and that is probably thanks in part to Don’t Starve Together. I do wish that DST was more like the original though (still an amazing game also). Anyways, I could go on about this game for a long time but I don’t want to take away from the fun of discovery. Buy this game definitely, DST is good also but I recommend starting here. Thanks for reading!

Valheim
Odin won’t let me go outside anymore and I have Stockholm Syndrome
Early in the year 2021, I heard about this game a decent amount of people were talking about: “Valheim”
It appeared to be some sort of Survival Craft / Sandbox title taking place in a Norse mythology setting, and since I love both, I thought to myself: “Hey, let’s give this a try!”
Several months later, I’m unable to tell if that grunt I just heard came from some creature in the game or my own stomach because of the pasta I ate raw in order to minimize the time spent on something else than building, slaying monsters and gathering materials.

I’m going to start with the good. This is a great game; with I think a great future. There’s plenty to do and it looks good. The simplicity works well. I love the building, really love the building. Yes there are dead areas in the world at the moment; but I know that will be filled in eventually. If you haven’t played this game, please pick it up. It’s worth a spot in your collection.
Now to the reason I can’t play this game anymore, and I have a little story for you. For some time now there has been a world destroying bug in the game. Your world progress will be reset back to the first day. Anyway, during covid lock, I’ve been separated from my girlfriend. UK to US travel has not been permitted until a few days ago. This game was our game. We spent weeks building a huge castle together. We laughed together, we talked about bad things going on in our lives, we got drunk together while playing this game. Some days, we just played quietly while listening to music together. What we built was huge, towers to their maximum possible height. Wide area’s paved with stone floor for housing and other buildings. We had friends come in to help us gather the stone; while also drinking and having a good time. Then about a week ago we loaded in to play after a month break to find everything was gone. EVERYTHING.

Don’t Starve Together
I’m not entirely sure why I haven’t reviewed this game until now. I have spent way too many hours playing and yet they were all worth it. It’s got a steep learning curve but it’s fun once you start to understand the rhythm of the game. It’s easy to make new friends and absolutely more fun to join and suffer the harsh world of The Constant with them. Just make sure you have enough food for all your friends~

I love this game. I have over 1,000 hours playing mainly local coop or alone. Ever since Klei was bought out the lag has become progressively worst and worst until now it is unplayable. I have gigabit internet, and a computer with plenty of hardware to run it, it just doesn’t run the same. Too bad really, such a great game with so much replay potential. Truly saddens me to be forced to uninstall and no longer recommend the game.

Subnautica
I’ve had this game for a while and honestly it’s the best survival game I’ve played. When I got it, I wasn’t expecting it to have so much detail and such great graphics. My computer is not at all a gaming unit, and it could still run this game and not choke up. The survival aspect is well crafted too. It’s a lot like Minecraft in that when you die, you re-spawn where you last slept. Personally, I love survival games but had a hard time finding one that wasn’t zombie related and really gory. Subnautica was the perfect fit. Plus, it’s an environment that typically isn’t featured in a lot of ‘survival’ type games. It’s different in a great way and I would 100% recommend this game to someone looking for survival game that is amazing without all the apocalyptic factors.

Raft
A couple years ago, I had a friend who was interested in playing this in co-op, so I bought my own copy in advance.
Our plans fell through, but I still ended up putting hundreds of solo hours into this game.
Give this game a try if you:
+like survival/craft (Bonus points if you like building expensive, expansive storage units for your 1500 stacks of wood.)
+prefer more sandbox-y game play (There is a story, but it doesn’t railroad too much.)
+hate seagulls (You’ll be killing plenty of them.)

TLDR: Don’t buy this game yet if you prefer fast-paced development, want a ‘complete’ experience, or in any way, shape, or form find bugs to be unacceptable in your gameplay. You’ve been given a fair warning and if you buy anyway, don’t say you weren’t informed.
Raft.
This is THE game I go to when I want to just relax, zone out, and enjoy a game without feeling any pressure or anxiety in any way. Between the pacing, the graphical design, and the music, the feel of this entry is very Zen. It’s almost akin to a sort of cognitive therapy in it’s own right.

Dig or Die
I bought this game because, as anybody with eyes can see, it’s very similar (outwardly, at least) to Terraria.
Does it play like Terraria? Well… kind of.
The main thing that drew me to this game is actually, now, one of my biggest complaints with it: the building mechanics.
The building mechanics are terrible. It’s not worth even attempting to build any long-term structures until you have the strongest possible blocks and, even then, if you’re not playing on the Peaceful difficulty there’s every chance that it will be leveled during the night by the waves of enemies that come pouring in.

Overview
Dig Or Die (DoD) is a 2D open-world survival game set in the far future, on an alien planet. Players impersonate employees of Craft&Co., an interplanetary building firm, that became stranded after a spaceship crash. Starting only with a few essential tools, you’ll have to scavenge materials to build a base, craft more advanced technologies and fight the local creatures with the ultimate goal of building a rocket to escape the planet.
🟩 Pros
- Satisfying gameplay that merges sandbox exploration, tower defense and building simulation.

Subnautica: Below Zero
Essentially if you like Subnautica, you’ll like Subnautica: Below Zero. The sequel brings along some nice additions (more decorative/home-y base building elements!) in most areas of the game. The land sections are interesting, although they don’t seem quite as fleshed out as the underwater gameplay at times, but really what do you expect when playing a game about underwater exploration.
My only gripe would be that everything feels a bit smaller in Below Zero. The leviathans, the story and the world all seem to have shrunk a bit and when I finished the story there was a bit of a “oh, that’s the end already?”. Don’t get me wrong - it’s a fantastic game and e.g. the smaller world also means there’s less time spent shipping materials or whatnot from A to B but sometimes there just seemed to be a bit missing.

This game is worth playing if you buy it on sale, and if you accept that it is just an inferior game to it’s predecessor in roughly every way.
Below Zero does everything worse than Subnautica. The story is a bit of a mess. It’s two independent stories that are hard to connect. The biomes are less diverse and interesting and smaller, the vehicle options are worse. They did add a land vehicle which serves no purpose, since the PRAWN Suit is better on land anyways.
They removed the Cyclops from the game too, in favor of a different and less-fun idea.

Forager
th game is great and i have enjoyed playing it but my only issue with the game is that there is no multiplayer.
i know the dev said in early 2020 that there would be multiplayer sometime 2020, but it is almost the end of 2021 and i still think that they should add multiplayer.

The Long Dark
The Long Dark is my favourite in the survival genre, and for a good reason. It manages to be both straightforward yet complex at the same time, which is pretty damn impressive.
TLD takes place on a Northern Canadian island right after a geomagnetic disaster shuts down pretty much everything electronic for good. The phenomenon has also made wolves, bears, mooses meese moose and many other animals aggressive and brought an endless winter to the North. And you have to survive through all that…and then some.

A true work of passion. The developers of this game have really taken their time over many years, to make a very immersive, deep, and cathartic game. Its the perfect combination of relaxation, fear, and survival, without the tedium of constant raw material collection (like the forest or subnautic, both great games, dont get me wrong.) There’s just something about it. And its very rewarding the more you play - the more you learn the mechanics and the do’s and don’ts, you become a better survivor, and last longer. But it is harshly punishing for new players - dont be afraid - the learning curve is steep at first, but quickly you will learn the basics. The punishing elements never get less harsh, but the risk around them becomes manageable - your decisions have consequences - make a bad gamble, and you pay for it, learn something and start over. Not to mention, the game is MASSIVE, varied, and very customizable. Like to take it easy - great game. Like to be on the edge of death every moment - harder difficulties will deliver. And the campaign is beautiful, and compelling. Can wait for the conclusion. I have played this game for a total of 680 something hours over the years, and just got the 500 day achievment, and still love it. Might just start over right now.
