White Night

White Night

There is this awesome little metagame on Steam called Pony Island. It’s a about a game designed by Satan himself to torment sinners in Purgatory. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that such game really exists. It’s called White Night.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a game so deliberately frustrating, so hostile to the player.

  • Camera. It’s fixed and it’s even worse than in the old Alone in the Dark games. Half of the time you don’t see where you’re going or what you’re looking at. Running into a ghost right in front of you because the camera decided to look the other way is very common. Also, the camera loves to position itself at some weird angle as far as possible so good luck at pixel hunting tiny objects and barely visible collectibles.

Another hard night in Steam Town. I peer into the streets looking for a little fun, but the sight hits me like a Mack Truck full of garbage: Boss Activision has the city tonight. A hundred Call of Duty hatchet men; the gunfire’s so thick you’d barely be able to see the movie tie-ins pimping their wares if they didn’t swarm like the bugs under a June streetlight. Distinguished old names walk with ‘em, but I shake my head in disgust. I see the bruises and I know old man Activision already bought their souls.

An excellent shooter where we play as mafia cats.

There are a lot of different opponents in the game, namely: jackals, mice, wolves and many others.

And the best part is that the game is not very demanding with the characteristics of a computer.

Grey Skies: A War of the Worlds Story

Grey Skies: A War of the Worlds Story

I absolutely love War of the Worlds and anything that involves it.

But if you take the element of the novel and story out, unfortunately the game itself is mediocre at best. The game’s pretty to look at and the dev did a good job of making me feel like I was in England. But the mechanics are generic and the stealth was tedious. Enemies were bland, the crafting system wasn’t all that useful and the characters were next to non existent. I felt frustrated how there was so much stealth revolving avoiding what was basically Human zombies and far too little gameplay against surviving the actual Martians. Speaking of which, we don’t even get to see the Martians! We don’t see how they landed, when they landed and where the invasion began. We go through a drawn out string of avoiding people to get a tiny bit of Fighting Machine activity at the very end.

𝗗𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗕𝗨𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗚𝗔𝗠𝗘!!! Grey Skies is absolutely miserable, it is a combination of boredom and frustration. Grey Skies is a cheap, buggy and janky mess of a game.

There are a plethora of bugs that are down right annoying to deal with. The gameplay is extremely tedious and slow. Most of the time you’ll be running around a dull map looking for random crafting parts, that don’t really make sense (such as finding a red weed to make a glass of water). There are moments where you are forced to slowly walk down an empty, linear path for a few minutes straight, doing absolutely nothing. The music that starts in these walking sections ends before it is even finished, so you’ll be walking in silence for the last minute of the section. Also, the main mechanic in the game is throwing cups of water at generators.

Ark Noir

Ark Noir

This game is worth your time, and $10 USD is a fair price.

  • Resource management is the main gameplay aspect. You need to manage your HP, Fortune (lets you bypass otherwise difficult content and helps keep you supplied, but is limited in supply, slowly filling over time), and Inventory (for fighting, but also as consumables for helping NPCs and keeping yourself healed). You’ll want to take on everything to get better endings, level ups, and unlocks, yet doing so will strain your ability to adapt to difficult moments. Eventually you do have to fight at the end of each floor, so you’ll want to spend Fortune on weapons, but if you spend too much then you might not be able to save a vital NPC that might or might not show up. Or maybe your character is already good at fighting, but has such pitiful Fortune that you’re stuck passing on rest rooms (full HP for a payment of Fortune) you really need. Everything is turn based, so there’s no need to rush your decision-making, despite what the clocks on each floor might have you believe.

This is a really nice indie game-gem , which will look good in every RPG fans’ library. And as a vn, it is decent, too. AN feels more like an rpg/dungeon crawler/survival game, than a vn, though.

So what do you get ?

1. A “Whodunnit”- and Why ? - mystery. I love those :)

2. Decent story, for a “short” game - though really weird at times ( Why on earth is the chief of security 15 years old ? )

And the conversation is a bit off now and then. But overall, absolutely decent.

You wake up in a sinking ship , an Ark filled with refugees and animals in cages .

Crowd Simulator

its annoying… but alll i can say 4 hours playing this game worth some thing around 70 cents its worth it cause you traing your brain and patience. My goal was to get 28/28 achievements witch i managed to do clearly. I recomend it if you had sold some skins from csgo or something to get it basically for free…

I normally avoid “simulator” games, as they are typically straight-up bad memes. But this one was alright.

Crowd Simulator is a series of physics puzzles in tricky situations with crowds of people blocking the way, as you try to make it to e.g. the full elevator, or walk through the street full of stuck-up people.

There’s a very vague story or connection between the levels that disappears completely at some point.

You can grab certain items but otherwise there’s little interactivity. But (almost) every level has a couple of side quests or extra tasks to complete, rewarded with achievements.

UPDATED Review 4/10/2021: Wow! This is a ton of fun. I had some prior grievances with some of the choices made with gameplay that were making the game very hard to enjoy for me. I voiced my concerns in my review, and the devs (small, indie dev team) responded very quickly to address some of those concerns. The devs are very receptive to feedback and appreciate hearing from their community, and it seems like they care about their product after seeing the most recent updates.

The gameplay is a lot of fun! It’s a bit of a combo of Crazy Taxi, Quarantine, and Carmageddon with slight influences from other media as well. If you’ve played Quarantine, you’ll notice the inspiration, but trust me, the devs are working hard to make this their own game! You will find yourself driving around a crazy, chaotic, and relatively apocalyptic city with bad guys and pedestrians on the road, turrets, other cabs/vehicles, and more. You are picking up fares, some of which need to go somewhere, others want you to kill someone or blow up a vehicle, and others want you to blow up a building (similar to dropping someone off at a destination, except with more explosions!). There may be more fare types in later districts that I haven’t gotten to yet, but I am satisfied with the fare types that are already in the game.

Cool indie game! Some stuff heavily resembles Quarantine or Road Warrior, but there are some major differences. Even despite the fact that the game has some bugs, the devs update it all time - a lot of stuff was fixed in recent patches.

Pros and cons below.

PROS:

  • positive vibe;

  • unique atmosphere somewhat reminds the old Quarantine classic;

  • nice effects and gore system;

  • excellent music!

  • driving model is not that bad at all,

  • cool weapons!

CONS:

  • some missions look bland and could be a bit better;
