ATTENTION: REVIEW HAS SPOILERS!

First of all, I would like to congratulate the developers of the game for their work, because this is subject I am incredibly interested in.

I remember being 16 years old, and reading a magazine article about the Zodiac, and being equaly frightened and curious as I saw that drawing of the killer in his costume, as it was described by the surviving victim, Brian Hartnell. That, along with the letters and ciphers, is a case where what we expect could only happen in fiction became reality - someone was killing people, communicating with the public by sending letters to the press and challenging everyone to catch him (even making movie reviews, not kidding!). Since my youth, I have been acompanying the forums on the internet which discuss the Zodiac Killer case and all the recent news/info about it.

Meh. I wish there were a “Meh” button instead of whether I do or do not recommend. It depends.

I had this on my wishlist and anxiously awaited release, and when the first wave of reviews were mixed, and I read about issues with the stalker mode (and knowing my history f’ing HATING games where I’m trying to do puzzles while getting stalked/usually killed), decided to just play the story mode.

Wise choice. Was still spooky without constantly destroying my will to play by making me start over chapters when I would have been inevitably caught. For that, I thank the devs.

White Night

White Night

There is this awesome little metagame on Steam called Pony Island. It’s a about a game designed by Satan himself to torment sinners in Purgatory. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that such game really exists. It’s called White Night.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a game so deliberately frustrating, so hostile to the player.

  • Camera. It’s fixed and it’s even worse than in the old Alone in the Dark games. Half of the time you don’t see where you’re going or what you’re looking at. Running into a ghost right in front of you because the camera decided to look the other way is very common. Also, the camera loves to position itself at some weird angle as far as possible so good luck at pixel hunting tiny objects and barely visible collectibles.

Another hard night in Steam Town. I peer into the streets looking for a little fun, but the sight hits me like a Mack Truck full of garbage: Boss Activision has the city tonight. A hundred Call of Duty hatchet men; the gunfire’s so thick you’d barely be able to see the movie tie-ins pimping their wares if they didn’t swarm like the bugs under a June streetlight. Distinguished old names walk with ‘em, but I shake my head in disgust. I see the bruises and I know old man Activision already bought their souls.

Lighthouse Keeper

Lighthouse Keeper

This is not a game but rather a narrated story from the life of a lonely lighthouse keeper. You get to follow his actions, thoughts and obsessions. The narrator’s voice expresses how it feels to be stuck in constant solitude quite well. You can also feel the nervous tension and a slight bit of insanity caused by the endless loop of mundane tasks. The music and the sounds complete the unsettling atmosphere, the writing is good, and the visuals are unique. It’s short, takes about 10 minutes to finish, but still offers an interesting experience. I really like it. :)

A short, narrative-driven title with a pretty cool art style.

This is more of a visual novel than a game, as there are only two simple interactive moments mixed in with the narration. What you do or don’t do in those moments is what lands you one of two different endings.

The voice acting is really good, in my opinion. The actor successfully conveys a feeling of obsession, mental exhaustion, and a touch of madness. Music and sound effects are also good, and add to the bleak, lonely atmosphere.

Edwardo

Edwardo

Edwardo is a combination of comedy and horror throughout the development of this game. The graphics are beautiful, especially the lighting that brings the detail of the textures. What’s more interesting was the enemy with the Tommy Gun. In other horror games, you would most likely encounter a monster, but here you are being tracked by an enemy with a weapon in the game. I love the enemy’s humor whenever he tries to find you. The pacing of this game was fair, and it took me an hour to complete it. It does have horror, but some parts aren’t frightening.

For Lewis’ first stealth game this was pretty good. It isn’t necessarily scary until you are finding the last sample and you come across Edwardo. I think the stealth mechanics are pretty good but it’s also hard to say how some things work like can he hear you do things can he see your light? But you can still go through the game just hiding from Edwardo until he moves on.

Pros:

  • A somewhat good stealth game, nothing too fancy but gets the job done

  • Good lighting, especially the samples making them hard to miss

‘I think this is Dope! Very good. I like it a lot. Very very good.’

When he gets jump scared, you know it’s jumpy!

But it’s much more than that. Caught the first play thru on youtube, and couldn’t stop watching!

Unique art style. Haunting story. Unforgettable ending.

Ok, now it’s my turn…..Wish me luck, I’m a bit nervous lol.

Although disappointing for it to turn out as a Fnaf “clone”, this game is still very good and has many great tricks and moments up it’s sleeve to elevate itself above most others and leave it’s own unique mark. The art style and quality of the in-between night sections are enough to distinguish it and make me wish there was more of them rather than the fnaf-styled gameplay. I’ll be looking forward to whatever this developer might make next.

You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/o9psOWkF28M

This is a stealth horror game. If you compare it to Alien Isolation VR on Monstrum VR, you will be sorely disappointed. It’s a mobile VR quality game that is priced at $13 USD for some mysterious reason. The graphics are ugly, the lighting is poor, the 3D models & animations are substandard, the sounds are just barely okay, the interactions are poor, and the gameplay is too basic with confusing enemy AI.

EXCELLENT SOUND DESIGN

The game is simple but very frightening, you need to collect supplies and only have a torch to find your way. Reminds me of old horror titles like SCP and Slender Man. Game is VERY dark, which adds to the fear-factor, but can be a strain on the eyes, but the thing that REALLY makes this game scary is the incredible sound design and atmospheric noises. However, I would wait for the price to drop before purchasing.

Sum up

  • Abilities come in a wide variety and are useful.

  • Choose how to experience the story in four singular modes.

  • The monster tracks the player, pursuing them instead of randomly showing up.

  • Voyeur mode for those that want to play the game for the puzzles and atmosphere.

  • Levels are designed as an elaborated trap with close corridors, puzzles, and monsters.

  • Dynamic generated maps for both singleplayer and multiplayer keep the maps unique and fresh.

+/- Tutorials are too short and lack information. At the same time, the game doesn’t hold your hand.

Introduction

When i first bought this game, i was really excited seeing the videos & screenshots

on the shop page.

I decided that should be enough for me to get it, since i didn’t wanna spoiler myself too hard.

So about 10 Minutes into the game i was really confused and the controls/gameplay

didn’t feel all too good or inviting at all, after 50 Minutes i’ve already gave up without even close to beating the first level; (noting that and with in my mind that while playing this game had a review rate of 50% positive 50% negative, most players with short gametime leaving a negative review and vice versa for people that played it longer. ) So i left the game for the day and returned the next one. Everything still felt kinda weird there was no real “handholding” or guideline which i’m not used to.

This game for me is the spiritual successor of Damned, one of my all time favorite games. While it is still in some early state, I can see myself enjoying the game soooooo much. The monster play is pretty fun. The investigator play is also quite fun and if the skill level of the monster and the investigator are high, you can have an extremely satisfying game of cat and mouse. The atmosphere is quite good and the traps can be quite spooky. Played a match with a skilled monster, 1 extreme skilled investigator, 2 decent ones and 1 new novice one… Everything went quite well and was super fun, as even when you die you can still help your team of investigators as a friendly ghost

Love this game, while it is still early access the devs are really taking notes on what the community wants. Once you get the lay of the map playing either side gets really fun. I love playing the wraith.
