Dark Tales from México: Prelude. Just a Dream… with The Sack Man

DARK TALES FROM MÉXICO

This is a saga of 9 short games and a prelude in a 3D survival horror style, based on tales from the real Mexican folklore in which every monster it´s originally a physical sculpture made and painted by hand and then 3D scanned using photogrammetry.

IN THIS EPISODE

You are a young girl who is sleeping and having a nightmare in the middle of which your grandmother appears giving you a key, then a black cat starts talking to you and tells you that if you want to wake up, you must recover, in less than an hour, a dagger that is inside a labyrinth where the Sack Man lives, the monster that steals children from that old legend that your grandmother also told and warns you that this labyrinth is alive, that it changes its shape and that it will protect the monster by showing you your own fears, and that if you fail, you will remain inside the labyrinth forever and you will never wake up again.

⚡This game was a really good time spent.⚡

Love the way the production approached the retro theme,

it made me feel nostalgic and I could relive good times.

//the story is very good and I was interested in unraveling the game’s mysteries.

//The game makes us a character and I love that in a game, I like to feel a part of the game and being a character in it myself.

so… several positive points, huh!?

in addition, the game has a very deep

reflection on depression,

anxiety and self-condemnation.

So, this game is a very basic, simple OS simulator with a “game” that you can play within the PC. The PC does have some decent enough music in the playlist but not really all that much else to read or interact with (there are a couple files that you can read, but it only BARELY creates a story). The bulk of the gameplay will be located in the game that you can find in one of the folders. It’s got the basic “Slenderman” stuff going for it (go and collect 10 candles while a monster chases you). There is a stamina bar and timer to give it a bit more depth in the difficulty department (otherwise the game would be all too easy to beat). There isn’t really a story to the game, which there wasn’t meant to be (as a file shows that Oliver couldn’t think of a story before he died). I didn’t encounter any issues with the game, which is great. The story is pretty simple yet not very fleshed out as much as I’d like in games like this one. I could get the gist but didn’t really understand the why (for instance

! it’s clear that Oliver is being harassed/bullied but we are left with no clear reason for it).

Although disappointing for it to turn out as a Fnaf “clone”, this game is still very good and has many great tricks and moments up it’s sleeve to elevate itself above most others and leave it’s own unique mark. The art style and quality of the in-between night sections are enough to distinguish it and make me wish there was more of them rather than the fnaf-styled gameplay. I’ll be looking forward to whatever this developer might make next.

I love this game. great visuals and style that if you can get a grip on does a great job getting the spooks. its a short and sweet game, ideas put forward are chilling and oppressive, basic style is still detailed in its implementation and surprisingly thought out. there are little additions that only show up for a few seconds and it keeps you on your toes and impress with there inclusion. this feels like a flash game made by a AAA experienced indy developer. its alot like silent hill in its progression where there are secrets, the progress is in exploration and it is willing to be appropriately aggressive when its required.

Survive or die trying.

Overall pretty neat and a rather refreshing experience for the RPGM horror scene.

With the release of Ann and Corpse Party 2021, I think the scene is going upwards in quality again.

Oc theres more, but this is centered on Steam releases.

Scarred Stars definitely deserves more attention.

Things got off to a bit of a bad start with this game, thanks to it taking me ages to work out that SPACE was the way to choose a menu option, rather than - I dunno - left click or Enter, like most NORMAL games? Guess I don’t play games of this nature (read: old-school, “retro” RPG) too often. I’m going to put it down to that, though many of the other (unremappable?) keyboard buttons seemed like odd choices also: A to equip gun, S to shoot, D to reload? I also had difficulty trying to work out where DOORS and trivial things like that were, but after not TOO long I got the hang of things enough to concentrate on the GAME, per se (hint: always be on the look-out for doormats and red arrows)! I’ve also experienced some crashing issues, but it’s early days yet for the game’s release (so they’ll hopefully be fixed), and the save system is fortunately generous enough to render this not TOO huge an issue (once you hit the first save point, you can pretty much save at any time). Anyway, enough about minor technical issues…with no further ado, let’s get on with the review…

This is one of the handful of RPG Maker games I like because it focuses on an compelling genre of psychological horror. Since the game follows a similar path of Silent Hill, I was more interested to give this game a try.

There was one major drawback to the game and it involves the combat system. In fairness, the combat system does feel “realistic” in a sense that, it should be harder to see beyond your light until the monsters come close. Also, your gun should take a split second before letting off the next bullet; sadly, realism is thrown out the window due to frustrations of the combat mechanics. Most of the time, it’s difficult to avoid getting hit due to the restrictive movements of the character. The RPG Maker engine only allows you to move up, down, left and right. The character cannot move around freely as in diagonally; although, I have seen other RPG Maker games do that. Running doesn’t help much in the game since the enemies tend to run at you just as fast. In addition, the map layouts are not as open enough to move around with many obstacles in your way, that at times, I find myself bumping into walls or trees. By then, the enemies are already on you. With limited lighting as well, you don’t get many opportunities to take out the enemy at a distance. Again, I think that is how the game is supposed to be. Fortunately, the only remedy in progressing is saving often even if I have to die a lot.

Abtos Covert

Abtos Covert

“Abtos Covert man, I’m tellin' you. Easiest post there is, just a few nights and you’re off the hook. Only the outpost, a small shrine and the rest of the forest can be seen…

What did you say? Strange shadows? Weird sounds? Paranormal activities? Those are just legends, bedtime stories man! There’s no way there is stuff like that out there!”

About Abtos

Abtos Covert is a survival horror game in which you play the role of a soldier keeping guard on a remote outpost out in the woods. You must keep your wits while searching for the truth. Fend off the mysterious entities attacking the outpost, find clues from previous soldiers that had the same shift and survive every night. Things will only get harder as you progress, so stay vigilant. Can you survive every night and discover the truth behind the stories, or will you become part of the legend?

Features

  • A realistic scenery, deep in the woods.

  • Make use of the unique equipment of the Abtos Covert outpost.

  • Alarm system with movement sensors will warn you of any outside threats.

  • Defend yourself using the spotlights or hide inside the lockers.

  • Listen carefully for any sounds. Danger may already be inside the outpost.

  • Each enemy is unique. Learn how to confront each one of them.

  • Survive the night shifts while you search for clues.

  • Something happened in the outpost before. A story is to be uncovered.

  • Don’t relax, ever! Each night will feel harder and harder.

Story

Well soldier, seems like you’re that guy. You drew the short straw and now you are to be stationed in the Abtos Covert outpost, a place commonly known for being quiet. But the moment it actually happens, the rest of the platoon is whispering: “Haven’t you heard the stories?”, “…heard someone disappeared there…".The stories about that place are innumerable. Human sacrifices, shadows running in the trees and souls still lost that sing a dreary song. When you ask your superior, he just laughs it off…

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares

Been playing for about 12 hours and its a good game if you want to play a rogue-like that carries over your equips, levels and meta progression. As you play, you will find Conductor coins that unlock said features but the spawn rate of these coins slow down by midgame. You can tweak the dungeon difficulty by yourself before entering, with higher difficulties giving better loot.

As for the gameplay, its Resident Evil 1-3 with tweakable camera angles. And randomised dungeon layouts. Weapon types are like in RE. AI could be better, they usually stand around unless you take too long to clear the level. I’m kind of disappointed with the costume unlocks but the gameplay is fun enough to grind for coins. Some enemies can one shot you so the difficulty is definitely there.

Real player with 12.4 hrs in game

Its a really fun game but I feel the weapons certainly need some rebalancing, to go from needing 3 bullets to kill a fat zombie with a target pistol mk.2 to needing legit 6 bullets with a tactical rifle mk3 is beyond a problem, especially when the rifle only has 7 bullets. The game is really fun and i still am finding new enemies that i absolutely didnt expect to run into but the camera certainly needs some work and it is definitely very very janky. Theres a lot of potentional here and hopefully it continues to improve. What’s here is a great game though, and it can only get better

I abolutely loved this game, it’s REALLY scary, though i would really like for the game to be a little longer, but it’s really good!, the money was worth it, but the bad thing it’s that it was pretty laggy, well, it’s not the games problem, it’s actually my computers problem but, that still didnt affect my experience with this game, but the only thing i wanted to say its that this game is really good, and i hight recommend it, i promise that if you buy this game, you wont be dissapointed.

The ORBITAL

The ORBITAL

Orbital - first person sci-fi survival horror. You are one of the last, (or maybe last) crew member. Your mission is to find out what is going on and get out from the spaceship. Will you survive, or not, will depends only on you.

You are an ordinary member of an expedition to explore new worlds. Your responsibilities include maintaining the ship’s subsystems and maintaining the working equipment. After another expedition to the surface of the nearest planet, you began to notice some oddities in the behavior of an electrician. But you blame this on the unexplored effects of exposure and the electromagnetic field of the new world. And one day you wake up as usual. But nothing else is normal on your ship.

Can you be smart and get off the ship that has turned from home to your worst nightmare?

We are participating in the Unreal Engine Dev Contest 2021. There are a lot of great projects coming out this year. And we are honored to be a part of this holiday. Follow the links, subscribe to our social networks, evaluate the project in the competition and add it in your wishlist!. We are glad to see you!

Features of the game

Several unique types of monsters

You will not feel safe in any corner of the ship. Only by getting used to one situation in the world can you unexpectedly find yourself in another. And what worked before may now be useless. Can you adapt?

The same spaceship - a different place

The location of the items changes and the available rooms change after each failure.

Different scenarios

Explore the ship, collect notes about the last moments of the life of the crew and find a way to get out of there.

Dangers and Opportunities

Using the work tool, discover new places and previously inaccessible areas. You don’t have a chance to confront your enemy directly. But you can distract and run away. If you’re careful

Death is the loss of everything

If you are lost, this is the end. When you die, you will start the game from the beginning. On a different ship, in a different situation. Another person. Good luck.
