Warsim: The Realm of Aslona

I LOVE THIS GAME! It’s excellent. Some fantastic ideas. Endless races to choose from or create. Build your kingdom up and conquer the world with hundreds of thousands of troops of various classes and types, upgrade your kingdom and build up the infrastructure, explore a rich and ever expanding world and then lose everything to the demon horde.

Responsive Dev, contant and regular updates. Gem of a game.

RE-REVIEW:

You know what, I didn’t do this game justice AT ALL with my review.

This game ticks SO many boxes for me :)

I think the single biggest problem with the game is the name: “Warsim”.

It sets itself up to be considered a possible grand strategy war simulator, while the actual army vs. army aspects are easily one of the weakest aspects of the current content. Wars, as they exist now, are just one list of troop names colliding with another list of troop names for a few turns. Fortunately, the game has so much else to do that’s fun and interesting, it’s very easy to forgive and forget this shortcoming.

The real core content and strength of the game are the large number of the different locations and activities you, as the Ruler of the Kingdom of Aslona, can discover and interact with. There are towns with dozens of different locations. A whole legion of different characters who will visit you in your throne room.

You just received a call from your uncle.

Apparently, he won a small defunct hockey team in a poker game

He knows you don’t have much going on, and offers to let you run the team.

If you can win the Marcotte cup at the end of the season, the team is yours!

Otherwise, you go to jail

Seizing the opportunity, you head downtown to register your team…

In MHL, you will build a roster from hundreds of randomly generated players, each with their own skills and weaknesses against 5 other distinct owners.

UPDATED REVIEW AFTER 100+ HOURS:

My first review was after 40+ hours. I recommended the game to anyone who finds TEW too complicated, but also stating that this game was in desperate need of a pre-booker, RNG, the ability to have more freedom to create match-types, gimmicks, etc. Also asking for match history, etc.

–-

Now after 60 more hours of playing and very regular updates by the developer (respect for that!), I can still say that I recommend this game to anyone who likes booking wrestling shows, without the complexity of TEW holding them back.

Bro this is the first kind of “manager” game I’ve ever played and hooooooly its great. Super easy to learn, super easy to read the UI. And super easy to book a whole show. I bought this trying to scratch that itch of having a GM mode in WWE 2k.

This game is just a little more in depth. Gives show ratings, gives crowd reaction to matches, gives 0-5 star match rating, and gives amount of money made from each show. Whats great about it is getting so much feedback that I think a lot of people have been wanting from WWE 2k games and their Universe mode. Game also has Injuries, Superstars asking for pushes or to work with someone, hundreds of people to contract for different jobs like referee, announcer, staff, wrestler, and ever some that can do all of these things.

9.5 out of 10 typing game due to some errors I’m gonna start with some things that are messed up in the game, but first I highly recommend this game if you love typing games it’s challenging the story is amazing and it’s ridiculously fun. Ragers are too OP I can type around 120 wpm, but when you can only see two words at a time and the creator has the most expansive vocabulary having these things run up and 3 shot you from full health is toxic. The ragers words will sometimes not stay on top of them either so they’ll get close and the letter to switch to them will be in some random location you have to guess at, also sometimes when you kill a zombie instead of going to the closest one to you like it normally does it won’t target a rager straight up punching you in the butt. One of the later levels repeats with the same journal entry and 430 something words is wayyyy too much for one level my dude I about had a stroke especially with your huge words you use throughout plus it’s so long it doesn’t fit on the whole journal entry screen when you scroll down loool. The good though this is actually a SUPER challenging typing game which is awesome they’re rare. The upgrades give you a chance to beat it on any difficulty besides the easiest I could only beat the second easiest game mode. The zombies ramp up so heavily if you don’t upgrade correctly you may be screwed. The story is amazingly interesting and well written the library of words is expansive and everything you type is leading up to the journal entry you get to read at the end. I’m sad it’s not complete yet, but I will most definitely check out the future chapters. Loved this game. Don’t be discouraged by the lack of reviews I’m assuming it’s because people can’t beat it outside of the easiest difficulty which may be a turn off to some people and the story is pretty lengthy but great.

Keyboard Kommander gets the fundamentals right of a typing action game, but then adds several innovations new to the genre. That game has the juicy sound effects and visual effects that make the simple action of typing feel awesome. Pressing space to shoot a zombie in the head never gets old.

Built on top of the excellent arcade typing action, there’s also tactical gameplay decisions you have to make. You can choose which zombie to target, so you can take down the most threatening ones first. You can strategically choose mortar gun to do splash damage to nearby zombies or laser gun to kill several zombies in a line. So it’s not down to just technical dexterity, there’s also tactical skill and longer term strategy with upgrades.

Astonishing Baseball Manager 21

Astonishing Baseball Manager 21

Astonishing Baseball (or AB for friends) is not your usual baseball simulation game. It’s not only about tables full of players and stats. It’s about people! Well okay, you heard that line from your Economics 101 class already. But I promise, this game will be way more interesting! It’s like a narrative roguelike sports game, Seriously!

What’s new in AB21

Already an AB player? Here are some of the main new features:

  • Play historic seasons or try our brand new scenarios. There’s a challenge for every kind of coach!

  • Always play for the best team in the new career mode

  • A new minor team system, where you can hire your coach and train your rookies!

  • Edit the portrait of your favorite player, or import an online logo for your team!

  • Congratulate your starter, taunt your rival or ask your fans what to do with your new rookie thanks to the Bleachers message creator!

  • Hire a brand new coaching staff to get advice on contracts and strategies

  • Join the excitement of the draft thanks to the new Draft projections, or the top prospect interview

  • Enjoy a brand new history listing, retire your Hall of Famer number in the ballpark, or use the new player history to check past performances!

  • Pick the menu at your stadium, and hire a chef to get the prestigious ballpark awards!

  • Show who’s the boss in the new World Cup, or admire the best players in the Power Contest and Pitching Contest.

  • And more, like league records, improved game simulation, smarter AI, new awards, legendary players… Too much to describe here!

Fake (but real) baseball players

AB is about fake (sorry, virtual) baseball players. Some you’ll like, some you will hate, and a lot of them you will LOVE! That anonymous “Jim” guy at the top of your lineup? Give it a few minutes, and he will become your favorite player ever. Or maybe he’s actually very bad, and you’ll send him finish his career in your minor league team, because he disappointed you. Poor Jim…

And that starter, Sandy. Is he an ace or not? Well, maybe you should train him a bit. And make sure you have solid relievers to help him if a left-handed batter is giving him a headache. After all, you’re paying him 12M a year, that’s a lot! And he’s asking for an even bigger extension contract now. Not sure you’ll like Sandy after all… Oh but look, his nickname is “Cubbie”, that’s so cute!

Watch them evolve!

One of your tasks is to draft rookies. And once you’ve drafted your first prospect… Let’s call him John okay? Well, you’re going to be very interested in John’s life. Where to put him in the lineup? How much training does he need? Do I start him everyday, or does he need to go to the minor leagues first? Why is he suddenly struggling? Wait, it’s getting better… HE’S THE MVP NOW! But is he really worth 20M per year? See, it never stops!

The lineup of your dreams

Okay so the team is not too bad these days, but you want to do a big move and win the Baseball Cup. Is it time to do a big trade with another team? Or maybe it would be better to wait next year and sign a big free agent during the offseason? Or maybe do both? One thing is sure, building the lineup of your dream is actually super hard! And you haven’t even tested the “Extreme Mode” yet. Or maybe you want freedom and receive job offers from other teams too. In that case, the career mode is for you!

A living world

Astonishing Baseball features an artificial but living world. Fans are posting about the game and your brand new rookie. Journalists write articles about your starter’s last night performance. Players send you messages about their concerns or their contract. It’s all about baseball! Fortunately, all these people are very positive persons! Except if they complain about their contract. Or their role in the lineup. Or the team performance… Well, it could be worse. It’s not like they’re French and complain all the time, right?

For baseball fans and stats nerds

Astonishing Baseball is very easy to learn. If you know the game rules, you’ll know how to play! But if you’re a sabermetrics savant, you’ll find all kind of stats to satisfy your nerdy instinct! I even suggest to use wOBA. You don’t know what wOBA is? Don’t worry, according to very serious studies, about 99.999% of people don’t care about wOBA. Good news, right? And now you can even see the future thanks to our WAR projections!

Get international

Not enough talent in your league? Send your incredible and local scouts to find the best prospects in the world, and then invite the most promising player to your team! But be careful, even the best scouts can make mistakes… My favorite one is named “Francis Dupont”. Yes, he’s French, from Paris, and he’s always hyping up his prospects. Like “Look, I just saw that guy from Strasbourg for three minutes and I’m rating him 80/80 and he’s already in the Hall of Fame blablabla”. Best thing to do with Francis is to ask him to spend a bit more time on the prospect. Generally it ends with a final rating of 50+/80 and a simple “I told you so”. I really like you Francis, but if you’re reading this, do your job correctly please.

Live incredible stories

As a coach, you have a life too! In Astonishing Baseball, you can take your team to a burger restaurant, help local associations, but also meet your favorite author, become a rock star, visit Iceland and even marry the love of your life!

Apparently I have to put a disclaimer here. You’re not going to really meet the love of your life with this game. It’s like… Your in-game soulmate, okay?

If you like baseball, fantasy sports and simulations, or just good stories, you’ll love Astonishing Baseball Manager! I hope. If you don’t, I like messages!

Gladiator Manager

Gladiator Manager

Very impressive by a single (and very dedicated) developer.

A few things clearly need some “polish” - but the developer is extremely responsive and posts fixes/updates and suggested UI/UX improvements daily (at least).

Gameplay:

OVERVIEW - Basically you start off managing a piss poor set of gladiators in the worst division of a 5 tier league. You compete against all other gladiator squads in round robin format earning points for both victories and the occasional kills. You track your progress up and down the leader boards with the eventual goal of moving up in to the next highest division either (1) automatically by winning the division or (2) going into a playoff with the teams in position 2-5 for one additional spot. However, if you end up on the bottom rung of the division - relegation!

Real player with 238.7 hrs in game

Enjoying this game and unlocking its potential to get even better. High replay potential, worth trying every different fighter type for your player-character as the team leader. Manager style game akin to sports Manager games, with a 5-Division league that you start at the bottom/5th Div to recruit and train your own team into potential league winners, a separate Cup tourney, and some Character Development RPG aspects embedded as well.

Great effort by the 1-man Indie developer who only received a small amount of outsourced help. This Dev has been very forward within Steam message boards that he is continuing to improve the game. I would call the game “Very Good” in current 75% complete state with high probability to be “Excellent” once further matured toward 100% finished. As-is, the game is highly engaging and fun to play now, no need to wait for further development. It’s like fresh grape juice now, and expectations of fine wine later. I did a small amount of game-testing before release, but this Developer is solo and without resources to fully test-out, but the price-point is in a sweet spot already, and worth full price even if you miss a sale. I am probably buying a few copies for friends, and over time hope to see even more improvements. To put in perspective, the Developer has already taken player feedback and patched the game 4+ times since release 48 hours ago, and most changes were not game-breaking bugs but have already improved the game.

Hack RUN

Hack RUN

I’d give this game a rating of “Meh”.

Side note: the game says I have 29 hours on record which isn’t a good approximation of the play-through time; I accidentally left it running on another desktop and didn’t come back to it for a day. Actual play time is probably about 2.5-3 hours.

TL;DR:

  • Accessibility issues for hearing impariments

  • So-so puzzles, for people familiar with this genre

  • Weak world building, which requires a multi-paragraph plot dump at the end.

  • Has some nice newbie features

This was one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever enjoyed in terms of a computer game. Its interactive in the sense that it immerses you with content without restricting the content to the game itself. I finished this over a Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. I rate it 10 / 10.

LOVED IT.

Audio = there’s hardly any sounds, but they do exist, so lookout for the very important audio messages. (keeping it vague on purpose)

Video = the main game terminal is just that, a terminal, but it does the job, and I wouldn’t have had it any other ways. the “rest of the content” is very tasteful done. I don’t know if many of the negative reviewers even realized how spread out the game actually was.

I really want to give this a good review but I have only been playing for a bit (5h or so of play) and I think I am done? No progression, unlimited cash, most runs. If it goes no where then what is the point? I have done a few runs and it seems very limited in variety. ALso, fix the numbers, add notation or something to that at least we can see the big numbers. This game needs some work to be worth paying for.

Fun little game, needs lots more items and has some balancing issues and bugs

On my first game I have found Assembly Line + Stacking Use ‘em is very broken, add some above and below 10 free money and you can catapult into the stratosphere very quickly.

I ended up getting so much money I caused a buffer overflow plunging me into negative coin values XD

Would like to see more than 28 items, as you get to know all of them and which ones are useful and which are not very quickly.

Needs some more work to make the gameplay interesting for much longer than half an hour or so

City of Ages: Picture Supportive Text MUD (server and client included)

This MUD is set in a post-apocolyptic world. Many different areas to explore, real time roulette, level approriate quests, 5 different clans and many hidden areas. I found more aggro mobs than were here when I played many years ago but that’s ok, keeps me on my toes. I noticed the soothsayers are gone which is a bit disapointing, but Bertha is still in her cage. Houses are available for sale, as are spaceships which you can fly to other worlds. I’ve been playing for almost 2 weeks and am close to level 25. This is thanks to the armageddon feature which awards players for their kills in a certain amount of time. I do recommend this game to veteran and new players. Make MUDs Great Again!!

never really got into MUDs before, but I am absolutely loving this game!

the game balances exploration and combat perfectly. it also does a very fine job of keeping things fresh, the amount of emotes one can choose from is almost overwhelming realistic-like seriously, players can select from more emotes than I’ve ever expressed in my actual life. really dig the environment as a whole.

overall this game is very entertaining and possibly addicting. i plan on getting this for a couple of my friends for the holidays.
