A Pleasant Surprise

I saw the mixed reviews and wasn’t expecting much of the game, but was actually pleasantly surprised how good it is. I can see why it got the mixed reviews though, as it has shortcoming but it is still very much enjoyable if you know what you are getting yourself into.

Basically the game is divided into two parts: XCOM like tactical combat and business management sim. On its own these two parts are not very special but luckily the game is more that the sum of it parts.

Chicago 1930 : The Prohibition

In the state it’s in, it should deserve a negative, but I’ve paid less than $1 for it so I’m gonna be more lenient.

The premises are all good, there’s the good vibe of an old-school game and the levels should keep you occupied and entertained, with actually some planning skills required to clear them. That said, the game IS buggy and crashes randomly. The way you operate your characters is also quite clunky, and frankly, a bit frustrating.

Be patient and work around the bugs, you’ll at least enjoy it for what it is.

I have no idea which stupid idiot decides to publish this game in this condition but seriously - I’m impressed. I just don’t know how it is possible to bug game without bugs. How you can fuck up selecting characters is just unanswerable. To change the guys you literally have to kill someone in the mission and hope that game will not select automatically another one by itself. Overall I love the game - but CD version not STEAM edition. Bought it only because CD version doesn’t work on anything above XP and I just couldn’t record it with FRAPS on XP. If you need to record it or if you have Vista or newer… You have to buy it… Unfortunately… But if you just want to play and you have access to PC with something between 98SE and XP than just find and buy CD version.

FYI I know the game designer so getting that out of the way.

Is a really great single player game for passing time especially when you are a person who constantly wants to do better and better and beat their last score. That’s exactly what this game gives to you.

I can’t get enough of this game. From beginning to end I’m challenged to make the right decisions for my business. I didn’t do well at first, but once I kept playing and improving I was able to get the right strategy down. I’m hooked and will definitely be coming back to play this game often! If you’re looking for a chill (but intense) game to pass the time, I highly recommend Burger Joint.

Rules of The Mafia: Trade & Blood

Rules of The Mafia: Trade & Blood

Feels like a concept/mod for improving the old gangsters by adding infiltration options for your gangsters. Though that’s it, just the mod alone. You instantly bribe or kill officials and replace with people with your own. no election or other factors even. Game is a ‘clicker’.

Last waiting part of game after having replaced mayor holding office for x time is waste of time.

Most events are plain annoying like raids that take your money and kill all your guards at shops.

Bugs: you drag a portraits around in the attack screen, then they disappear from screen, never to be seen there again. as result, I never attacked places. Just bribed them back.

Just as many people I was also hyped before the release because th game looked very promising to me.

What I then got was a game so basic, that even my Grandmother could have played.

Basically the whole purpose of the game is, that you (A premade Mafia Boss) controle all the City Buildings and the City Government.

You do this by raiding the Buildings or buying them and Bribing or threatening Government Officials so you can then install your own people.

Sadly that is all to the game and it is pretty much the same throughout every walk, which makes it pretty boring after just one game which you can easily win in 20-30 minutes.

My previous review still applies…times 1000

I don’t care if this game takes forever to win!

I am the boss of a crime family!

What I say goes!

DO NOT come into my territory!

I AM “Scarface” Al Capone, Frank “The Enforcer” Nitti, Bumpy Johnson, Dutch Schultz, Lucky Luciano, Bugsy Siegel, Meyer Lansky, James Cagney & Humphrey Bogart in “The Roaring Twenties”, Edward G Robinson in “Little Caesar”, Vito Corleone, Sonny Corleone, Michael Corleone, the guy who cut off the horses head and somehow got it up the stairs and under the sheets without waking anyone or leaving a blood trail and everyone else rolled into one!

To give this little gem a thumbs up was kind of a margin call. I do love Mafia games and grand strategy games and this one made it into my heart but there are a number of things that could and should be improved.

But let´s go with the PRO´s first:

PROs:

-) Easy to understand the game mechanics and therefore you can play right away and have fun

-) nice graphics and funny nicknames of the mobsters

-) Many different traits that can give you benefits for your rackets and therefore allow different approaches to grow your family operations (such as mobsters with specialisation or neighbourhoods that prefer a certain racket like gambling or upgrades after you have a number of the same rackets running etc…)

Very chilled fun addicting game buying/selling drugs. using the crypto/Trapcoin system helps you build your money alot faster and keeps a good strategy to the game. The graphics could use some updates to help with the quality of the game look but overall, the gameplay is very fun to manage. There is an END game to this but you can keep going and build your drug stash as much as possible. Try to do a 1million account challenge. :)

Well, that was 30 hours of weird. This game is so…odd that it’s really hard to parse my thoughts on it. It’s fun and the achievements were actually fun to 100% (and it’s one of the only games I’ve ever bothered doing that with), so I’d have to recommend it, but it’s also a bit buggy and stupidly hard so I’ll need to add some disclaimers.

At its core this is a fun “easy to learn, hard to master” management game, where you run a drug empire starting small and snowballing your way to a roller-coaster of an ending with a final level that was not fun, but was definitely an experience. The game eases you into the mechanics over the course of several levels, and there’s a lot of midlevel twists that can screw you over, but also add a lot of depth to the characters and some challenge. It punishes inefficiency, but rewards thinking ahead. The difficulty is over the top at first, but once you understand how to play the game it all falls into place. You’re always given the tools to solve your problems, if you manage your resources and employees correctly. What RNG does exist in this game usually falls in your favor by way of lucky loot drops from defeated enemies.

General Opinions about the game.

  • Opinions

The game is certainly interesting nothing like what I’ve played before. I will take a second to mention that i have played for 24 hours so i feel i know the game pretty well.

From what i have played and experience this is a snow ball of pain, along the lines it starts easy and ramps up in difficulty dramatically in a short amount of time due to there only

being 12 levels.

It has been an enjoyable experience but a grindy one, it should be said the later levels become stupidly hard to the point we’re you might be trying to beat levels over and over again slowly building frustration.

An amazing game overall. I would like a few more features though, such as the ability to export goods to other cities, mansions that you can buy, maps based on Boston, New York, and Philadelphia, and the ability to buy off the mayor or even run for office.

Great management style game. Don’t expect a game with heavy fighting as this is not the focus of the game. It’s really how to max profit. Easy recommend for me.

Main quests:

  • So far two of the paythroughs I have had have game breaking bugs for the main quests.

Police:

There is not enough interaction with the police, they are basically not even a problem. Give them more power, create tiers of police, where there are cops, investigators, feds, etc. Make it so that if you piss the police of by killing a lot of people you get a heat system.

Economy:

There is apparently a non ending need for alcohol, the game would be more interesting if your bar saw less profits and patronage because your neighboring faction has a better bar, higher quality booze, etc.

Real player with 63.3 hrs in game

Seems like the game has that weird Paradox disease where the game is garbage day one but undergoes radical changes that make it into something really special. I bought it after the precinct update and I’m hooked. I like the combat and gang management elements as well as the almost seamless switching from tactical map to street view to turn based combat. There’s also room for strategy, you can cut off sections of someone’s territory to destroy their supply lines or trade poison disguised as high end alcohol to set some one up for the moment you take out their brewery in an ambush leaving them with nothing to sell and no one to sell it to. I think that it’d be a whole lot better with more room for customization but it’s a solid solid game.

Not gonna give it a Negative. But i could. Fun for a bit. Really fun if you just love winning simplton games. No real depth. Not hard to dominate at all. Confusing to start once over the curve you will win easily everytime. Wont play again unless it is updated or multiplayer. Worth 8$, ONLY if you like the sound of my review.

Lots of fun, once you get to know AI gets a little easy.

Would be awesome if Multiplayer was added!!!
