Robot Island

Robot Island

This is a really nice, warm game that lightened my night. I couldn’t explain why, but the general aesthetic, dialogue, and gameplay just put a smile on my face. I would have paid as much as $10 for these 30 minutes of my life. I really hope the developers make more games.

On a more personal note to the makers of Robot Island: Thank you. I needed this. I needed a bit of a wake up call, and a spike of happiness in my life. You help make the quarantine bearable.

There is one theme in movies, literature, games and all the other types of storytelling media which interests me most - how one person’s words and actions, even very small can influence other people’s life. Some of this influence is light, briefly noticeable, but sometimes it can shape other person’s future.

Robot Island, though a tiny project, is about small talking person into life’s decisions. I’ll be homest and say that I got the best ending for the first try and was somewhat scared to move the plot to worst ending (if there is any, I belive, there is). Graphics is charming and cozy, dialogues are well written, I wholeheartedly enjoyed Nim’s point of view on different things in human life - games, furniture, jewelery… Nim is written as a robot-companion should be - he has his own perception of things and he is also cheerful and exited. A lot of chances to melt your heart!

This plays a lot like an old SNES RPG called Metal Max Returns, but you have golems instead of tanks. It also has different options for the the golems like the items that grant access to certain skills. Instead of needing a more powerful engine, you need a more powerful core that can handle more energy (“Edea”) but the upgrades you apply come at a cost to the Edea levels (which also serve as your HP), so there’s a limit to how strong you can make your golem depending on the core you put into it.

Extremely well written, well illustrated and well orchestrated. the story gets you super invested with the super well written characters in a story that keeps you engaged and emotionally attached. I normally don’t play visual novels but after my friend (sheepy, another reviewer below) got the game for me i have to say I was having a great experience the whole way through. I will definitely be heading straight to the 2nd installment and look forward to more beautiful music, art and character/ story development.

The Uncertain: Last Quiet Day

The Uncertain: Last Quiet Day

Review brought to you by:

TentacleBunny’s Cozy Cottage

Developed by the Russian studio New Game Order (formerly known as ComonGames), The Uncertain: Last Quiet Day is a 3D Point & Click adventure, with a strong storyline and quite ambitious direction. It’s the first episode, released in late 2016, and it took 4 years until we finally got the second chapter.

In a world where humanity has long perished, robots have replaced us, maintaining their own evolution. Inspired by our way of living, these machines work, learn, and socialize with each other remarkably resembling humans and their daily life. RT-217NP is a prime model of its kind, a robot whose curiosity allows him to grow at his own pace. He wanders around the city repairing and building tools, which he can sell to keep his curiosity alive.

Robots or The Pandemic? I’d Choose Robots ♥

The world has ended. The robots had taken over. This neat post apolopytic game is from the eyes of a cute robot named RT (insert model name here). He was leading a normal robot lifeu when an incident makes him question what is wrong or right. Humans are gone but are they?

Story

I thought out of most point and click adventures I played, this game has one of the best stories out there.. I adore end of the world games and I love cyber punk or futuristic games in general, so in that related theme this game has an amazing story. I mean artifical intelligence and robotics are being developed for the last few years. What is intriguing about the plot is like the pandemic (HEY 2020!) robots taking over the world CAN happen folks. This game covers only beginning of the story and is relatively short but was incredibly sufficient for a part 1. In the views of RT you hear what he says about humans or human life in general which is very entertaining. Are you uncertain to help, or do you not want to help or do you want to help? That is up to you. and depending on the choices you make you progress the story or reach bad ends. The story is very very linear , so do not expect miracle side plots.

Lucy -The Eternity She Wished For-

Lucy -The Eternity She Wished For-

Does a robot have a soul? Especially if it’s a kawaii android girl?

This question has been a central theme in quite a few visual novels and anime shows already. Just to name two of the earliest entrants: Chobits and planetarian ~the reverie of a little planet~ came out more than a decade ago.

So then, what novelty does Lucy -The Eternity She Wished For- bring to the table? Personally, I particularly liked that the premise of the story was something believable, presenting a very plausible real-life scenario in the future.

Real player with 21.0 hrs in game

In my experience, visual novels are poorly-written, which is a real shame – the combination of audiovisual cues and written word could really lend itself toward breathing new life into old ideas. Unfortunately, Lucy is yet another example of a visual novel that falls short and leaves its medium under-utilized.

The premise of Lucy is interesting, and I had been hoping to see an intriguing exploration of the problems and ethics behind human-android interaction, and while this does briefly come up in the game, it’s only touched on in a superficial and immature way.

Binary Domain

Binary Domain

Binary Domain was yet another part of a (free) bundle given away by SEGA, featuring mediocre games mainly. When I started playing it, I was expecting an average shooter (the reviews didn’t provide much clue). What I got was an absolutely positive surprise in all aspects. But I’m not explaining this fact that I liked this game so much with the element of surprise: I wish every overhyped AAA game could provide as much fun as Binary Domain did. It has everything a good game needs: a thrilling story, excellent characters and funny (!) dialogues, choices & consequences and of course great combat with fluid controls. This is one of those games that would require a sequel, but apparently won’t get one, since the game never received the proper amount of praise and appreciation it should have deserved.

Binary Domain is a Third-Person-Shooter with a cover system set in the future after catastrophic events led the world to some major changes.

In 2080, due to climate changes, the world faced the large flood ever existed, and in search for cheap, reliable labor, the humanity turned to robots, in hope for a better future. To lead this revolution is Bergen, a US-based company, responsible for manufacturing robots for all over the world. But Bergen is not the only one in the business. Amada, a Japanse company, sued Bergen for stealing their technology. Bergen won, much because of its influence… They do manufacture over 90% of world robots, and this made the USA more powerful than ever!

Out of Shapes

Out of Shapes

At first I thought this was a classic case of ‘baby’s first game’ syndrome. Clunky movement, basic visuals. Then the signature Kris Takahashi writing kicked in and I started laughing every two minutes. There is so much excellent dialogue and neatly observed satire in here that you forget the cheap-looking parts entirely. If you don’t mind a largely text-based game, then the quality of the writing makes this a decent way to spend some time. Some of the music is really very good too, which helps. For a few quid, I don’t feel short-changed at all.

This game has the vibe of “What if 1984 had a bunch of robots in it…and also (an optional) happy ending?”

The game gives you:

  • Cats!

  • Green buggy creature-features

  • Puns and jokes so awfully good you hate yourself for laughing

  • Robots with more fleshed-out personalities than your average coworker

  • Philosophy

The game doesn’t give you:

  • Crippling depression about the inescapability of the capitalist system

  • Striking fear of the grim place that is your future

  • Freecam during conversations (this is the only feature of the 3 I’m mentioning I’d love to see)

Sentience: The Android’s Tale

I found this game to be quite interesting, though it is fairly simple mechanically speaking. The story kept me very much engaged. In a few spots my choices seemed to make a difference. With all of my other choices, it’s hard to say. The game might have some replayability, at least the last underground section, since there are so many possible endings. Recommended if you like cool stories.

By the way, the game did freeze on me a couple of times, so make sure you save often.

Developer Pilgrim Adventures scores positively again with this title. They have a knack for creating games that are laid back, yet very enthralling story-wise. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this.

I wished they would make more games like this one. It mixes elements of a sci-fi flavoured visual novel, with an RPG-like feel to it (mostly because of the graphics and the user interface).

The story is well done, and logical enough. There’s a healthy mix of mystery regarding technology, higher intelligent life forms, ancient civilizations, creation & just life in itself.

I enjoyed this game and at its price felt it was worth the money.

Pros:

*I liked the characters and the voice acting.

*The dynamics were interesting. Climbing, combat against bugs and wall walking. I do not usually play platform games but this one was so different than most, I decided to give it a shot and was very pleased.

*Graphics are amazing.

Cons:

*I found limited information on the game and with no Controls menu, it was frustrating until I figured things out. Had to read patch notes to get some of the information and I doubt most gamers would go that far.

Like the titular robot, scrappy but with a lot of heart

I was going to wait for the incoming update that will rework the combat, lighting, tutorial, climbing, and control among other things, but after a few months of waiting (now over half a year), I needed to get this up on Steam. I’ll update accordingly come any update dropping!

So that’s a veritable laundry list of significant aspects currently being redone. How does it currently hold up? Remarkably okay - particularly if you’ve got a strong stomach for a little mechanical jank. Immediate worrisome standouts include the aforementioned combat, which offers no feedback and has you whale away at the air in front of an assortment of the most aggressive insects the world’s ever seen to hit them; and the platforming and climbing, which is ultra-finicky at the best of times. Perhaps the bigger problem with the combat is that there’s just nothing to it. Currently, you hold down one of two buttons/triggers to hit with no evasion particularly necessary. Spiders, wasps and beetles make for pretty incidental, uncompelling adversaries too.

Ultreïa: Prologue

WOW! What a wonderful game!! Will definitely recommend it. Did have a lot of problems loading it & was just about to quit trying but on last attempt it finally loaded! (the intro was very glitchy for a few mins & then cleared up). I actually enjoyed it so much that i ended up playing thru several times. I love point & click games especially ones like this game…..just point & go! Personally i have such a hard time using a controller, I mean what’s with all the lingo in settings? I have no idea what I am adjusting….like “shadow” What? Huh? Hate how sensitive they can be when it is a FP game…..like why do i need to use 2 or 3 buttons plus the toggle just to simply walk down a road & then find out that i had been walking in circles YIKES! I’m having a terrible time trying to play Edith Finch….Took me an hr just to get to her old home LOL….Anyhow it looks like i’m regressing, (as i often tend to do) so, back to Ultreia…..again, it’s a great little gem, controls are simple & the whole game flows, great plot & the sweetest robot ever! Cheers & stay safe!!!

I enjoyed this and plan on getting the full game eventually for sure.

The art is beautiful, and I think the dialog and story is interesting.

This is a point and click game, but it is a really nice point and click game.

The puzzles aren’t ridiculously hard in this nor ridiculously easy. They make sense.

Worth your time playing the Prologue at the very least if you have any interest in point and clicks.
