The American Dream

The American Dream

A 1950’s Fallout type of America where guns rule and you take a Gun theme park ride through a series of life’s moments (mini-games) as you grow up to show how you cannot do without the blue steel of an American gun.

It’s a hard one, the artwork, voice acting and story are all top-notch, the work has gone into this game and it has a fair price tag. The main problem is the mini-games are just a series of boring been there done that games and VR is well past most of these now. The novelty is not there anymore and honestly, it’s just one boring mini shooting game after another.

The American Dream is an australian fps shooting gallery VR game set in the 1950ies in the height of McCarthyism. What really sets this game apart from most fps games i atleast have played or heard of is that this game is strongly satirical and critical of the americans infatuation and love for the right to carry arms so the game will surely be devisive as the subject certainly is a hot potato. Propably not a game for NRA members but if you as many americans cares for the right to carry weapons and still has some sense of humour left in regard of the subject i wouldnt necessarily recommend against the aquisition of it either. The game is outright preposterous like when you have to feed your baby with a gun by sticking a gun down the babys food while afterwards feeding it with the weapon stuck right into the toddlers face. On the other side the game has many quotes by renowned filosophers in regard of society and govermental power and such so the mix of the ridiculous and the insightfull makes this a truely unique experience while shooting your way through different scenarios with a talking dog by your side though the game.

Incredibly funny, and then actually really emotional in places.

I absolutely loved this game. The characters are great, it’s really funny and interesting seeing what suggestions people have given, and while the game uses more player suggestions that I was expecting, it still managed to keep some order in the chaos to deliver great characters and a really satisfying narrative.

I finished the main story in around 3 hours, but then kept replaying to see different pathways and unlock achievements/bonus scenes.

There is so much I could say about this game. It’s beautifully done for starters. It touches on a lot of extremely serious issues, some subtly, some much less so. All of them done with wit and charm one has come to expect from the genius of Cael, Elliot and the Hidden Track team. This game will put you through every emotion imaginable. I laughed, I cried, I felt afraid and everything in between. The art style was simplistic, yet unique and beautiful. Once again, to be expected as a Hidden Track project. The sounds were spot on. And DO NOT get me started on the plot twists. I genuinely did not see them coming. It was so easy to lose myself in the worlds they created. And the characters… There were a couple I will love forever, and a couple I will loathe forever, yet another feeling not oft invoked in me. Honestly, I could go on and on, but you’re probably tired of my rambling praise at this point. Needless to say, though I was cautiously optimistic when they gave it to me to try, I fell hard and fast and will be purchasing copies for friends as soon as I’m able. 10 of 10 a must play.

This is not your typical RPG Maker “jrpg”, with your standard typecasted heroes. The characters have well written personalities and interactive dialogue that is just unseen on most “jrpg’s” (and that statement is not exclusive to rpg-maker games, I mean rpg’s in general). While the plot and the direction are somewhat linear, the pc’s are what make it gold. It’s like reading a really good book with fleshed out characters that say things that bring the game to life. I have rarely played rpg’s that actually have dialogue interaction with enemies and bosses throughout the battle itself, and the dialogue is not repetitive. It is rich and full of humor, sprinkled with jokes and funny innuendos throughout the entire game. Moreover, it abstains from the beaten path of stereotypical backgrounds and played out motivations. Pontius, one of the main characters, is not a stereotypical mage and almost sets the stage for what good things you can expect for the rest of the game.

RPG Maker - I start with this - most obvious and for me it usually keeps me a bay.

That would be the only negative.

Now let’s look at what is good in this game.

Story - not too complex, not too plain. Just enough to make player tied to the developing progress and expand the game beyond fight&survive.

Humor is sometimes for a bit more mature audience, but even kids would get it and is not bad at all. Dialogues between (later) four party members are pretty cool.

Combat - we all know RPG maker combat, and this one is best of breed (what RPG maker can offer). Not to bad, not to difficult, not too easy. Graphics - you can see on screenshots, I like it. Skills and Spells are well balanced and each next level each char gets new spell or ability.

Beautiful and wonderfully written. If you enjoy visual novels this is definitely for you.

Visually alone, this game is incredibly stunning and unique. For me personally I find most visual novels fall flat in this category so it’s refreshing to see a new take on it.

Storywise, I was never bored or felt like “yeah okay whatever” so I feel like I got my moneys worth alone for this.

It’s definitely much different than any other visual novel I’ve played, various themes and concepts are discussed in an interesting way. Some things I felt personally connected to and that’s not something I’ve experienced much in a video game at all, let alone a visual novel.

The Window Box by Sundew Studios is a dark comedic visual novel about five college friends catching up. This point-and-click game allows you to find out more about the girls’ back story while solving puzzles and discovering the dark truth about Elsa’s new life. Is any of these strange twists real or is the stress of relationships, work, and the prospects of having a baby driving these women insane?

Being a visual novel, the first thing I usually notice is the art style and music. Since games like this have very limited gameplay, those two things are very important. With that being said, I really enjoyed the music in The Window Box. I felt that it fit the tone of the game very well but wasn’t too distracting. I did also enjoy the art style. The characters reminded me of fashion designs and sketches. They were all unique and had their own personality, just based on their designs alone. The backgrounds and objects in the game were really pretty as well. The tone of the whole art style really fit the dark whimsy aesthetic they were going for.

A Chamber of Stars

A Chamber of Stars

Each person has a universe inside of them.

A personal universe with characters influenced by the observable reality around them. Your friends, the fans, the local shop clerk, each person you pass without giving pause is another universe. You make up a story about them, they form a story about you. The universes expand.

I always wonder how similar our universes can be. You and I. Will I ever be able to pierce through and present myself, my real self, or will the information be lost in translation? The thing rattling around in our heads can’t be all that different. We both still get choked up over the same melodies, it’s only human to do so, right?

Maybe, if you would like it, I could play something for you. Lord knows your songs are still rattling around in my head.

The singularly named Starr, an enigmatic performer, guitarist and songwriter, has somehow survived the constant shifting tide of the musical landscape. Decade after decade, this artist has remained relevant in culture’s eye. After multiple personas, genre manipulations and controversies, the public is still buzzing. “What will Starr do next?” The rumors say their upcoming album will be the fated magnum opus…

A Chamber of Stars is the sequel to 2018’s The Endless Empty. Through six unique worlds the life of the rock n’ roll hero, Starr, will be pieced together. Exploration, choices and performances will change the course of a life and will alter the songs that are produced. A Chamber of Stars will feature a mix of classic adventure games, puzzle solving and unique rhythm game performances all within a fully realized surrealist universe.

Nothing heavenly or divine; just filthy mortal music here.

New Ice York

New Ice York

This game is so much more than I expected it to be. At first, playing it- I was charmed by how weird it was but after playing through it, I found myself feeling connected to this universe and the characters within it. It’s intuitive- familiar, but totally different. Refreshingly fun, and an overall great release by magicdweedo, an artist I’ve really enjoyed since Mealmate™. Make sure to check out the soundtrack, too- it’s really catchy!

New Ice York has deceptively good writing. The first chapter is unfortunately slow, which is a bad problem for a game of this length to have, but that slowness does its job of lulling you into a familiarity with the characters that it uses as a platform to build off of. NIY unfurls in a way similar to Frog Fractions or magicdweedoo’s last major game, Ticket: breaking its own rules and shuffling weird mechanics around. Where the former games engage themselves in a game of zany one-upsmanship, though, New Ice York’s treatment of mechanics is much more narrative and constrained. Detective has an oblique resemblance to Deadly Premonition’s Francis York Morgan / Twin Peak’s Dale Cooper, and similar to those stories New Ice York’s descent into surrealism takes on a personal significance in the quest of the protagonist.

Vegas Tales

The owner of the fabulous Bellflower Casino Hotel in Las Vegas is terminally ill. Having devoted his life to running his hotel, he never made time for family or friends. With no obvious heir, he’s hired you to help him choose the right person to inherit the Bellflower. He narrowed his list of candidates down to a small group of people who have strong personal connections to the hotel, but whom he knows little else about. They’ve agreed to be interviewed by you under the pretense that you’re writing a book about the Bellflower Hotel. None of them know what’s truly at stake. It’s up to you to get to know these people and determine which of them is most worthy of inheriting the Bellflower. This will be no easy task, as the group contains some unique and memorable characters who will make your decision quite difficult. Be careful though, as there may be more to some than meets the eye.

DEKONSTRUKT is an interactive movie, with elements of first-person gameplay. You will be immersed in the inglorious story of a game developer with plenty of destructive black humor. The game responds to never-before-seen creative challenges. Help the protagonist deal with his inner demons. Or not really.

As you can see, the game tries with all its might to seem like it’s not just another triviality. In other words, my mother grew a vegetable, even though she is not a gardener.

Scheming Through The Zombie Apocalypse: The Beginning

Scheming Through The Zombie Apocalypse: The Beginning

A choices matter Visual novel full of offensive humor, staring two degenerate morons and how they deal with surviving a zombie apocalypse.

+graphics are pretty good cartoon style.

+Story line is funny(THE FIRST TIME)

+Soundtrack is relaxing, but not necessarily good.

-Saves. This saves after every chapter. There’s no other save option. Should save after every chapter, so you can go back in case you mess up. This is super punishing for mistakes.

-Lack of options. You can literally only change them at the beginning of game. And there’s literally nothing for sound or graphics. Just to show the text in the talk bubbles. If you choose to not show text, it still shows the stupid bubble over everyone’s head anyway. Oh and language settings, which only has about 8 options.
