Hitman 2: Silent Assassin

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin is the second game in the franchise and helped to establish many of the core aesthetics of the series. Addressing the biggest complaints about the first one, Silent Assassin is a solid and worthy sucessor. Controls are more solid and responsive, with better aiming, and wider options for the player to tackle the missions; and everything is bigger and better. The main new feature is the creation of the famous rating system, were the highest rank is Silent Assassin.

The briefing is now narrated by Diana, creating one of the most recognizable features in the Hitman series, which you can hear while watching the mission video (the first one, in St. Petersburg Stakeout, is glitched though, as it cannot transition to the second part of the video). Locations are more alive, more populated with NPCs and with more indirect approaches. The map is now more useful, showing real time positions of NPCs and critical elements like elevators and ICA caches. Albeit still mostly linear, Hitman 2: SA tries its best to give the player different options of approach and has more signature kills, with the most famous being the killing of Hayamoto Jr. with a badly prepared Fugu fish.

Codename 47 was a success, a success that needed a sequel. And what do the good sequels do? Fix what’s broken, evolve what’s working. And Silent Assassin does that…kinda. Unfortunately, not always right. The overall structure of the game remained the same - you have a map where you need to do something, preferably unnoticed, and then, usually, leave the area. But how you do it is slightly different. First of all, and that is important for more… kind, i guess, players like me, - you can knock out enemies with a chloroform instead of killing them. This also means, that now you can knock out innocent people in the area and use their clothes almost without any consequences. Almost, because knocked out people do regain consciousness (quicker on higher difficulty), and because there is a new meter. Yes, starting with this game there is a “suspicion” meter in play. And it’s rather stupid, unfortunately. When you are seen by enemy/guard-type characters, their “suspicion” goes up. It’s universal for the map and it can only be slightly changed by what you are wearing at the moment. But it didn’t work as well as in later installments, with lots of smaller “if"s in play, where enemy/guard character could truly be described as “suspicious” and not “crazy and paranoid” and willing to shoot a hotel visitor just because he made a wrong turn (and yes, this can happen). What’s also sad, is that the infamous jungle chapters from Codename 47, are here as well, only now you’re in snowy Japan. Why would developers want to leave this kind of section in the game is still something i don’t understand. But it’s a solid game. Not yet as refined as Contracts and Blood Money, but not as raw and hardcore-ish as Codename 47. Definitely worth the play. P.S. Jesper Kyd’s music is amazing as always. P.P.S. You can now save in the game, if that put you off in Codename 47. Amount of saves depends on the difficulty level. P.P.P.S. The game is ridiculous to play if you speak russian. Russian stereotypes in this game are amazingly funny. Game even starts with a very harsh russian profanity, it’s the first thing you hear when you start the game.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell®

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell®

Splinter Cell is Ubisoft’s response to Metal Gear Solid, and boy did they deliver! The game has amazing graphics for 2002, with light and shadow environments, cloth physics and movement caption, with the epic voice of Michael Ironside as the ex-Navy SEAL, and now NSA agent, Sam Fisher. You are helped and guided by a team of specialists from the Third Echelon, a super secret branch of the National Security Agency (NSA). The controls present some neat flexibility to the player, giving the stealth genre much needed maneuvering space. The game is set in the Clancyverse, so you can expect the usual high-class military-political intrigue coupled with the rough military guys surrounded by state-of-the-art tactical gear; the green googles being the trademark of the Splinter Cell series.

Splinter Cell is a stealth title that was created as a “Metal Gear Solid 2 killer”; a MGS2 killer it is not.

A good game it is.

Rather than the MGS formula of using enemy line of sight as the danger, Splinter Cell uses light as the catalyst to all stealth play. At the bottom right you have a small bar that shows how visible you are; light sources shoot this bar all the way up and any enemy looking in your general direction will be alerted to your prescence. Sound also plays a role in this, as you can adjust Sam’s move speed by 6 or so degrees. Different floors (wooden, grates, concrete) make different sounds, but the general idea is that in addition to staying out of sight, you must also stay out of sound.

Death to Spies: Moment of Truth

Death to Spies: Moment of Truth

A Solid Stealth Game for only the Most Diehard Stealth Fans

Death to Spies 2 is much like the original game nothing has been drastically changed, only minor tweaks, the game is still extremely hard and the focus is on disguising yourself as the enemy. There as several tweaks incuding the ability to carry a disguise in your backpack, the addition of yellow enemies whom get suspicious only if you get close.

The biggest change is the disguise system where its more about getting the right disguise for the task as opposed to going straight for the officer disguise, for example in the second mission the officer disguise is good for the 3rd floor however in the shipyard most enemies are suspicious towards the officer. However most of the time getting the officer disguise will do the job.

This is a very hard stealth game, but highly realistic and time consuming. If you require a good game which involves planning, thinking, observing and acting at the right moment this game is for you. You really need to play the first one before hand which is now really cheap and just as good! The first one has a boot camp which introduces you to the franchise and gives you all the basic controls. This one just throws you in to continue the story! It has driveable vehicles, many weapons and objects to use at your disposal. You can use, steal and loot enemy weapons, uniforms (and get away with wearing them) and the enemy are none the wiser unless you pass SS personelle or an Wehrmacht officer. This is a modern version of “Hidden and Dangerous” series which is my all time favourite but no longer obtainable or playable on recent versions of Windows. You choose your weapons, kit, equipment and even a backpack to carry extra things to help such as wire cutters, explosives and compass/binoculars ect ect.

HITMAN™ Review

**So ,hello to my next review of games ! Today i will say what I like from HITMAN™ an what not.

At first , I am a big Hitman fan and because I like it I must buy it . Many people gave the game an dislike !

So when you are to lazy to read all here scroll a little bit down**

Story

So the game plays after the events from “Hitman Absolution”. But at first it gives a tutorial where you learn the basics of the game and that plays 20 years before the events from Absolution. The story begins with the first episode in Paris and the Mission name is “Showstopper” . You have to kill two targets….. The bad thing is ,it’s an episodic game :/

There’s 2 things I’d like to get out of the way first before starting my review. I got the “Full Experience” (entire game) for free from a Steam friend - although this should have no effect on my review, it’s obviously a bit harder for me to gauge whether this game is worth full price or not. Second, HITMAN has a “mixed” review status at the time of writing and some of its earned. The episodic model this title uses is polarizing, a lot of stupid decisions have been made and the game lacks a lot of polish like most early access games do (ironically we were repeatedly told Hitman wasn’t an early access title). Now with that out of the way… how is the new Hitman game?

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent®

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent®

SC:Double Agent deserves a better pc port, especially when Ubisoft advertises with screenshots from the arguably superior oldgen PS2/Xbox version!!

Chaos Theory’s followup is a game with great potential. It kinda plays like Chaos Theory, but with a darker, more engaging storyline, some moral tightroping and some epic music (SC:CT had good music too though). How could you go wrong? I cant help but to like SC:Double Agent, but i won’t deny that it’s infuriatingly buggy either. For starters, the detection meter has been replaced with a simple color system: Either your green and your hidden, or your yellow and your not. Then theres a flashing red, which means that your currently getting blasted to bits. The lighting in the levels isnt really clear on what spots count as a shadowy, green “hidden zone”, so you’re prolly ending up missing a viable hiding spot. Or you’ll have it the other way around: you rush towards a dark corner, thinking it’s safe to hide there but it’s not. For example: i was crawling through a dark alley near a palace, thinking it would provide some cover to hide, but nope… it didnt. But when i climbed on top of this same palace i realised: this whole palace rooftop is considered a savespot, in broad daylight!! There’s quite a few spots like this, and it feels like the leveldesign got rushed.

When I say I would recommend this game, it isn’t really a strong recommendation unlike the precursors of this game. The game itself is not bad. But it also not good either. It is disappointingly okay which is quite the fall which a game from the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell series can suffer especially as a sequel to the much acclaimed and refined Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. All in all, the game is simply OK.

The AI in this game is another thing altogether. Sometimes, you can simply waltz around the AI and it will behave as if nothing ever happened. And then there are times when the AI automatically sees and detects you despite there being practically no way it could’ve done that. And then there are the player triggered cues and interactions wherein some people just randomly enter a scene to interrupt a time-based mission and make you lose precious minutes of time or when guards behave to progress to a specific point just to get more alerted as if it is all a part of a script. The guards don’t even need to run to an alarm anymore. They’ll all be alerted and an alarm triggered as soon as one of them has a confirmed sighting of you. All of these make the immersion in the game suffer quite a lot and make the AI feel more like a burden than a challenge.
