3D Ultra™ Minigolf Adventures

3D Ultra™ Minigolf Adventures

Words cannot describe how powerful and emotionally moving this game is. In point of fact, I would say that 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures sets a new standard not only for the videogame industry, but also for all art in any medium. The work of William Shakespeare wilts in comparison to the raw energy that radiates from this majestic creation.

Fools might say that 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures is “glitchy”, “broken”, or worse yet “borderline unplayable”. Those people are unwashed heathens whose puny minds simply cannot comprehend the intricacies of high art. Academics are able to correctly see Wanako Games' mind-bending piece illustrates the simple truth that, since human beings are inherently flawed creatures, all things that they create will in turn be inherently flawed. Take, for example, the “Outer Space” courses. Whenever I attempt to play on any of these courses, my computer begins to dry heave like a bloated walrus attempting to give birth to a tractor-trailer. Fools might see this as a flaw, but those academics who can understand what Wanako Games is attempting to achieve here can begin to appreciate the majesty of such a feature. Space is often called the final frontier, and by making the game near impossible to play on any of the Outer Space courses, Wanako underscores human limitations. When the you attempt to push the limits of humanity Wanako breaks your computer and forces you to confront the fact that there are certain things human beings cannot do. Thus, Wanako furthers the theme of the inherent failings of humanity. While another game might seek to blindly empower the player, 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures is far more intentioned and careful in its gameplay.

Very basic mini-golf game, with only 36 unique holes in the career, with the first 18 being unlocked in the first leg of the career, the second 18 in the second leg, and the third and final leg of the career makes you go through all 36 in one sitting. There’s an additional 18 tiki-island-themed holes that have their own campaign, suggesting that they may have originally been part of some DLC or something and are incorporated into the base game for free now. The only reason I’ve spent ~7.4 hours in the game was because of how clunky putting, the most fundamental part of golf, is here: in order to get the ball to go much of anywhere, you need at least 40% power; however, anything over 60% power will probably send the ball out-of-bounds, and it’s very tricky to hit that happy medium. There’s a custom-hole-creator, but it’s super-basic, with no online-sharing capabilities. There are four personae, two males (a punk rocker with no mouth and a high-school footballer with no eyes) and two rather-sexualised females, both with their navels showing, so I can’t really recommend this one for the kiddos, either. Best to save your money and pray that one of Steam’s Early Access mini-golf games ever come out for full release…

This game is ABSOLUTELY INSANELY better than ANY of the competition Mini-Golf games. Golf With Your Friends and others can only dream of the unique graphics and creativity this game has become. With a VERY active Dev team behind the game, it has come farther than GWYF ever did in over 4 years of being released! With the race mode and lobby waiting room, along with so much more to come, this game creates a whole new level for Mini-Golf styled games!!

Walkabout Mini Golf VR

Walkabout Mini Golf VR

What a hidden gem! This is an absolute MUST have for VR, especially if you are playing with friends. You’re going to think I’m kidding, but this stands next to Pavlov and Alyx in my top three VR games.

While so many games feel like tech demos, this plays smoothly and accurately, has great multiplayer, has fun collectables, it’s got charm - It’s just an actual finished game that feels like it was made with love.

Not the mention the new map added for free which was awesome and introduced a new gameplay mechanic as well. I can’t wait for the next one. I’m writing this review because the devs really deserve it!

This is the best VR Mini Golf game out. I really like the map designs and searching for new golf balls and looking for clues on the (hard) courses to unlock new putters really adds more to the game.

10/10 for local multiplayer

8/10 for singleplayer

this is the most fun i have had with the vive so far, it is so much worth the price

it is simple, it is fast to learn, it is the best fun i had in years with my friends and a few beers :)

i think the simple graphics help this game alot as there is no discomfort with playing this for 4 hours, me and my friends take turns in local multiplayer, taking turns on the vive after each hole.

after our latest tournaments my friends keep calling me wanting to hear when can we play minigolf again, i keep trying to show them all the fancy new games i keep downloading to the vive and they bloody dont care.

2/6 update: So, the devs did fix the two-controller/one-controller issue I complained about in #2. #1 remains an issue, but I think it’s down to Vive tracking precision. For example, on the first hole in the game when you play the 18 pre-built map holes, if I try to hit a hole in 1, it will often shoot off at an angle, but it’s the same angle every time (either, say, 8 degrees above or below the hole. Always the exact same angle if it isn’t dead on.) If I just randomly swing with one arm, not even bothering to aim, I hit a hole in one quite frequently. This could be jitter in my lighthouses, my own body, or God knows what else, but it’s there and it can be irritating.

The game pretty much plays the way it looks. You get up to 4 sets of mines that you can stack up to 4 each (for a total or 16 simultaneous mines placed on a ball) per shot attempt. Total mines per hole is also limited in case you just can’t get the ball in the hole, but it’s generally dozens of mines per hole.

Overall, this game is a lot of mindless fun and worth a few dollars buy-in.

  • Pretty game/art/graphics

  • Solid physics

  • Good sound

  • Many of the holes have a bunch of assets that never come into play (for me). In fact, I couldn’t really tell much about the features of any given hole - the game pretty much allows you to bypass everything with well-placed mines, and this is a must if you hope to get a low (high?) score.

Remember the ending to Caddyshack? Someone took that, subtracted the kangaroo, and made it into a game. Oh, and Al Czervik was wrong.

The Good:

  • It’s definitely a fun way to change up a game of golf.

  • Place up to 16 explosives all over a giant golfball and set them off.

  • The soundtrack is wacky golf music if I’ve ever heard it.

  • Cheating isn’t really cheating. If you can figure out how to land a trickshot in this, you earned that win.

  • Explosion-based physics really opens doors to interesting playstyles and experimentation.

Great game grabbed it while on sale, my only criticism there is no room reposition toggle button, i say this as i only have a small area to play and constantly have to check that it’s clear to play, i do however have one sweet spot and it would just be nice to be able to play without ornamental damage and dishing out accidental uppercuts to my room mates! But seriously great game short or long time play, you can’t moan for the price.

Really fun game! Great value conisdering it’s only $5 (less if you purchase during early access), but still has room for improvement. The courses are unique and I like that there are multiple scoring modes. The walls are a bit empty… would love to see some extra artwork there and the sound of the pins getting knocked over isn’t the best… maybe just change it to sound like real pins? The unlockable balls are really cool and I love all of the obstacles in the courses. I like how it saves your top scores, but I’ll really be exctied to try and break high scores once global scoring is up and running. Local multiplayer would be nice as this would be a great party game. Overall this game definitely gets my approval. 7.5/10 for now… with a few small tweaks this game can be 9/10-10/10.

Overview:

3D MiniGolf’ is a very simple golf game unlike many minigolf video games you’ll find. Unlike other popular golf games, the levels in ‘3D MiniGolf’ are extremely straightforward, quick and easy to complete. There’s little to no uniqueness to the game as most of everything it tries to do different has already been done before. There isn’t much variety in terms of atmosphere or level design because almost everything is essentially recycled from previous levels.

There are only 3 different environments and each contain the typical 18 hole line-up that most minigolf courses have. With 18 holes per course, you’d think there’d be more than enough gameplay to keep the player engaged but as mentioned, the levels are extremely quick and easy to complete. There’s so little imagination when it comes to each hole that it just leaves the player wondering how long it’ll take for them to finish the game rather than enjoy the game for what it is. The game isn’t just easy, it’s really easy! Like “in 2 strokes” easy! that is a serious let down compared to what even real life minigolf courses are capable of achieving. If a video game (something with no limits) gives you less than its real life counterpart (something with many limits) then you know there’s something wrong.
